Just off Grandeur-there we’re two ‘service’ dogs on board. One seemed to be a legit hearing dog for a hearing impaired woman that was traveling with her family. Another one was a tiny dog in a stroller the whole time-not sure it’s purpose?

Yes whenever I’ve tried to book comfort inn the room charge isn’t bad but the taxes are just as much?! Is that a new thing!?

The problem is not the kids but the parents. I grew up in the 60's, my kids grew up in the 80's and during that time adults could talk to any child about their behavior and the kids would listen and straighten up. I cannot count how many parents I know now who believe their kids do nothing wrong and if I or any other adult were to say something to their kids, they would threaten you somehow because their kids would never do anything wrong. I know this because my husband taught high school and he could take no action with the students except send them to the principals office where the parents would pick them up and complain about the teacher being wrong. He taught welding and an accident could have caused harm to him or students. I truly feel the challenge is with todays parents. They both work, are usually tired when they get home, and do not want to deal with any children problems. I felt this way at times and I was a stay at home mom. Not placing blame on any one person or child, just my opinion there is no incentive for kids to step up to the plate and take responsibilty for their actions.
100% true! 80% of parents don’t want to hear anything negative about their kids or don’t believe their kids would do anything wrong. I’m a substitute teacher (worked long term jobs and day to day) mostly elementary and it’s prevalent and sad! Even admin has their hands tied-it’s hard to suspend kids now too.

Late seating, early show. Early seating, late show.
Or MTD and pick how you feel each night.
If you are cruising Grandeur next week, if the sailing on the 16th, did you sign up for the Meet and Mingle?
Also a casual meeting at the pool bar at 4PM on sail away.
Yes all signed up!

I’ve been reading a lot of the recent reviews for Grandeur-we leave next week. Some of the complaints are around the schedules of the shows and activities.
First question we have late traditional seating-8:00. Apparently most of the shows are either at 7:15 or 9:15. That was the complaint they would miss either the end of the show or the beginning. Traditionally if you have late seating, shouldn’t we try and see the 1st show?
Also apparently the big fun activities-Love and Marriage and some of the other ‘fun stuff’ was set during port days while docked? Why would they do that and is that the cruise director decision or activities director? I haven’t heard anything good about the CD-Bob?!

Thanks for all these tips!

Can you get it with vodka? I’m allergic to Rum?

Probably because the Park Cafe is located in he Solarium. I can see where they were allowed up there, but just to eat and not to lounge around the pool.
We were in the Solarium area at lot last year for the cafe with our kids-you’d think they’d had the food elsewhere to keep kids away from the whole area..

I heard (don't know if it's true) that norovirus can not be killed with alcohol (hand sanitizer) you have to wash it off. So you'd have to go wash your hands (and don't touch the door handle to get out of the bathroom or the chair to pull it out or the table to get closer after sitting down) after handling the tongs in order to really not worry about the germs you got from the serving utensils.
That’s true with norovirus. This is why if I do eat in the buffets I wash my hands in the bathroom before I eat.

You’d think they ask before you board to save some time and extra work for the cabin steward!

Oh God, I wish I hadn't searched that!
Right it’s a terrible story and why I didn’t let my 9&11 year old walk around by themselves.

Assuming your starting point is the Royal Naval Dockyard, take the Blue Route ferry to Hamilton, walk from the Hamilton ferry terminal to the bus terminal and then take a #1, 3, 10 or 11 bus to St. George. This will take up to 90 minutes each way excluding waiting time for buses and ferries . Please note that bus and ferry service on Sunday is more limited than on weekdays.
Alternatively a taxi for 1-4 passengers will cost about $95 (including the Sunday fare surcharge) plus tip each way.
You could also take the ferry to Hamilton and then a taxi to St. George, but that taxi ride will still be very expensive.
Unless you have a specific need or reason to go on Sunday I don't recommend it. Too much travel time or too much cost and too little open there on Sundays except some restaurants. If you're taking bus and ferry by the time you get there it will be almost time to return in order to catch the last ferry back to Dockyard.
Thanks, that’s the problem with our ship it docks at 2 on Saturday and leaves at 3 on Sunday. I know it’s harder to get around (or more $$) I’d love to do some more sightseeing. As of now we are planning Horseshoe bay beach both days? Kids loved it last year.

Good to know! Last year I booked a bed for shade reasons, (my dad died from melanoma and I’m more at risk so have to stay out of sun as much as possible) and I didn’t like the beach there. So I’m going to just find a chair with shade..

But what about on Sundays?

If the rep emailed you the booking confirmation (which does not seem to be automatic anymore), you can confirm the bookings are linked on those documents.
You can get the booking confirmations by using this automated number: 866-562-7625, press #4.
Perfect! Yes, I see that on our documents under our itinerary. Traveling with booking #...
Thanks as always for your help Bob!

We booked connecting rooms 1 adult 1 kid in each. I’m assuming the rooms are already ‘connected’ in the system so we dine together? Or should I call. When I tried to connect from cruise planner it wouldn’t let me cause we didn’t have same last name?!

I know it was getting close to selling out a few days ago. There were only guarantees left. I just thought it was odd that all of August was now gone. Thanks for replies. And it’s ok I come here for past experiences from seasoned cruises asking for advice-so I like the ‘could’ be respondes!
Best news I can tell MIL it’s sold out. BUT I really do need this cruise! So I hope it’s not cancelled. It’s been a rough week. Some of you may have seen in the news about the lady killed in VA from a tree falling on her house (that was my neighbor across the street )
-
None of the Grandeur of Seas out of Baltimore are showing up in August on their website any longer, does that mean the ship is sold out!?! Darn my MIL just said she wants to come with us 😳
-
That works for me, the only problems I have had is kids using the stairwells as a hang out spot. With my depth perception problems I've stepped on a few hands that didn't want to move.
Serves them right

As a teacher I have no issue correcting other kids behavior and if my kids were misbehaving in any way I would hope someone else would correct them. I know many parents don’t like it, but I don’t care. I’ll say the disrespect from kids is getting crazy at schools too even now starting in Kinder...

I only started cruising again recently after about 15 years and I’m just used to set times. We are also a family of 4 and have done two cruises one late and one early time. We are going to do the late time so we don’t have to rush to get to dinner. I also think if the show is before dinner we might be more likely to see it?!
-
May as well take a cab if just going to a public beach!
But is Atlantis beach public?
-
How often do they usually have KSF? We are looking at another cruise in January, but husband wants to see how this one in August goes. But current promotion ends July 31sr

My feelings on all surveys (this coming from the education area) it takes a lot to get a 10. Again there is a range 1-10. 10 is a perfect score no room for improvement. I feel there is almost always room for improvement and growth anything in a 7-10 range should be good.
