  1. When did Royal start with having all these lifeguards by the pools? Poor people standing there all day even when no one is even close to go into the water. This is ridiculous. And why one per pool? The pools are only 30 feet away from each other. They would just have to turn around to be there in 2 seconds if something happens. Because of costs I trust 5 lifeguards on a ship means 5 waiters less on the pool decks..

I apologise in advance if I have taken your post the wrong way. I don’t normally bite but having small children I am surprised this hasn’t always been the case. It takes seconds for a child to drown in an inch of water. I am sure there is no slow down in your food/drinks being served. Even if there was, I am sure you can wait an extra minute for it and won’t die in that minute where as a child, or even an adult in water might.

You can’t predict when someone is going to go into a pool, or fall in for that matter, so I really don’t see how this is ridiculous.

Why is that guy up on the bridge steering the ship. There’s nothing but clear ocean out there. Maybe he his surplus to requirements, there could be more waiters and I could get my pina colada quicker.

  2. Ok, Maybe I'll poke around their roll call and see if anyone is talking about it on board.

She’s in dry dock now. Have a look on the webcam you can see they have taken up the running track. In for a month until it returns to Southampton. Due to arrive in Southampton on 11 May.

I’m travelling on 16/6 on Indy so can comment if no one does before me.

  4. Hi Garfield,

Yes, check-in is staggered, to avoid ridiculously long queues.

How strictly they adhere I don't know - and it my depend on whether they're snowed-under (awful pun intended ) at the time.

    Where are you travelling from?

    And by what means?

If you're allocated a late boarding window & that's inconvenient - for instance you're flying & there's only one suitable flight - you or your TA could ask for a more-appropriate time.

Whatever boarding time, you can deposit your checked luggage as soon as the luggage-drop ( to the right of the terminal entrance) is open. ?10.30am sounds rather early?

You can add your hand-luggage if you like - there'll be spare labels at the baggage drop - but remember to keep with you your passports/documents, valuables, meds & anything else you might need before your bags arrive at your cabin door.

The city centre is only a ten-minute walk from RCI's terminal (City Cruise Terminal, berth 101) - plenty of shops, cafes, some minor sights. Bear in mind that if it's a sunday shops will open later.

    JB :)

    Hi John

    Thanks for your response.

I’m really not travelling far. Live in a village outside Southampton and work in the city so know it all well. We are travelling by taxi so just needed to know for timing of the booking. Planning ahead and also want to maximise time onboard and grab lunch on their if we can.

May chance early boarding around midday and head into town if unable to get on.

    Thanks

  5. Hi there

I wonder if anyone has experience of check in times with Royal Caribbean in Southampton.

I’m going on Independence of the seas later this year. How strict is Southampton at making you stick to your allotted checkin time? My set sail pass says check in time is from 10:30 to 15:00, but my travel agent says I will be given a more precise time.

I will be travelling with my family including two young children, 3 and 1 year old. Will they turn us away if early? I am told there is nothing to do at the terminal, so I don’t want to be stuck there.

If we are turned away will they take our luggage early allowing us to nip into town for a bit?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. The nearest beach to the port, and very popular with local families, is La Malagueta - even walking at young child pace it shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes. Leave the cruise terminal, walk up to the first junction and turn right which will take you to the coast road and the start of the beach. https://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=AwrP4o.BYq9aMz0APSlLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTByZmVxM3N0BGNvbG8DaXIyBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=la+malagueta+beach&fr=yfp-t

Tapas bars, and all restaurants, welcome children. There are chiringuitos all along Malagueta beach where you can sample tapas. raciones or - as we do - a selection of medio-raciones to share; choose one full of locals to guarantee good quality. Prices are a little higher along the sea front than in the old city centre.

One place your children may enjoy - as well as yourselves - is the Parque de Malaga/Malaga Park. Situated just across the road from the main port gates (not the exit I have recommended for the beach which is much nearer the cruise terminal but close to the port shuttle bus drop off point) this is the city oasis loved by its residents with Parakeets, tropical trees, a small childrens play area and peace + quiet making this a lovely place to relax before returning to the ship.

    Hope this helps.

This is fantastic. Thank you very much. The park sounds like something they will really enjoy as well so will definitely be taking a look at that. Can’t wait to enjoy the sunshine and heat after scraping 4 inches of snow off the car this morning!

  7. Hi there campolady

Thanks for the information in this thread.

I wondered if you had any suggestions for a young family. My family will be visiting for a day in June. Our boat gets in around midday until early evening. My wife and I have two young boys aged 3 and 1 and wondered what you might suggest for us to do? The one year old will be in a buggy and the three year old walking. Obviously we will be quite slow in walking around.

Would you recommend a beach within walking distance of the port? Are the tapas bars child friendly as we would love to try some whilst we are in Malaga?

    Thanks in advance

    Garf
