  1. We returned from our Romantic Danube cruise on 8/26. We made this trip somewhat of a European pub crawl for my husband and he put up with my obsession with horses. We did not do the micro brewery tour because we were tired from the earlier city tour, only 4 people from the boat went. They said it was fine and came back a bit tanked. I would recommend the Bavarian beer fest tour. It was rousingly fun and very interesting, even learned the schuhplattler dance. There were pretzels, meats, cheeses and two big barrels of beer that they tapped the old fashioned way. The beer flows freely, much as you can handle. (and for me they had horses :). We had a breakfast beer on the Danube Narrows excursion and they sold the beer that the monks make at the monastery (very reasonable beer glasses for sale too).

  2. Sorry that I cannot ease your mind about the river levels, that is weather for you. We returned from our Romantic Danube cruise on 8/26. I worried like a fanatic before we left that it would become a bus trip, but it was smooth sailing. The only busses we rode were for tours, from and to the airport, and getting from Prague to Nuremberg. There were 25 locks but you didn't realized you were in them most of the time. I'll pray for rain!

  3. We recently returned from a Viking river cruise on the Danube. We booked our flights through Viking, paid the extra fee to pick our seats and flights and it was flawless. We were 3 hours late arriving in Prague due to fog and a representative was there to pick us. From that point on they did not miss a beat all the way to the end where they put our luggage on the scale at the airport in Budapest. Viking has it right down to the last detail.

  4. Thanks K-cup! These are the exact excursions that we wanted to do. We are planning to walk the micro brewery tour and also the Heurigen wine excursion, but maybe not based on your comments. We were undecided on the beer fest excursion but now I think we will do it. How about the Hungarian horsemen or any of the other add-on excursions? We're there any exceptional ones that cruisers raved about? Thanks for your post, we leave August 19th on the same cruise.

  5. I think that it's likely that Viking may be doing ship swaps to get ships back where they belong, i.e., a ship that was supposed to be going from Amsterdam to Budapest had to do a ship swap and go back to Amsterdam, so now it needs to do another swap to get back into the right rotation.

I never thought of that, thank you! I am soon to find out the workings of river cruising.

  6. I am enjoying and following the river information that you have shared! I am trying to get an idea of the Danube river water levels for mid August when we will travel from Nuremberg to Budapest. There is an Rivercruiseinfo app that states the river is high and in good shape, yet Viking states travel changes on the Danube due to low river conditions. Is there any solid information online on river conditions that you know of?
