  1. From POM to FLL takes about 40 minutes and many on these boards suggest SAS (www.ridesas.com) for shuttle service for about $15 per person. By comparison a taxi from POM to FLL will cost about $95

    Good luck! :)

you may have just saved my sanity!!! most other shuttle services wanted close to $200 for the 4 of us to get to miami from FLL

i am going to call them now to be sure i can get the rates advertised....

  2. I have to agree to some point, but being from the northeast, we have lobster all the time....

i am not planning on having it on my formal night, im hoping they serve some duck or prime rib!

there are lots of cruisers who are not from new england like we are, and they do not get to eat something like this very often. it IS special in that case...

I am unable to understand the obsession with "Lobster Night" on a cruise ship. I can hardly believe there is a gigantic tank full of thousands (because that's how many passengers there are) of live lobsters toodling along the seas nervously awaiting their fate. Most likely they are pre-cooked and frozen and reheated at service.

Why in the world would anyone be excited and anticipating this? A frozen, dried-out crustacean produced in a mass-market manner?

Why in the world would this be a "feature" of Formal Night, as I usually eat my lobster in a tee shirt and jeans because it's going to go all over the place? Do you get a bib for your tuxedo?

When I want a good lobster I go to the local fishmonger and take it home and cook it myself. I might even drink a delicious Colt 45 with it. But at least I know my lobster is FRESH!

  3. Cool...another Seinfeld fan! Remember when Jerry wouldn't eat the pizza because Poppi didn't wash his hands after using the restroom? Speaking of gross things, that was pretty gross. Or when George wouldn't eat the pie because the cook poisoned it? Also pretty gross...

the george/pie thing was just funny! all from the same episode if i remember correctly.... i think thats the one where george had the cordeuroy pants on and he was worried the ppl he was trying to impress wouldnt hire him because of the noise, lol

i am a HUGE seinfeld fan!

  4. Like another poster, I had just come out of the buffet with a plate of nachos and once I hit outside, a big gust of wind carried then away and a massive glob of cheese and nachos landed squarely on the face of this older woman. Meanwhile, the wind is continuing to blow and the nachos are continuing to fly and she was batting them away like Wonder Woman bats away bullets. It only lasted about 2-3 seconds but it was like slow motion. She had all of these nacho chips stuck to her with globs of cheese. Thankfully, she was laughing about it.

Another time, I was riding the elevator with this gentleman - just him and me - and you could see him shift from left foot to right. I then heard the beginnings of a fart and, not to be gross, but you could hear the fact that he was trying to contain it by the difference in 'pitch'. Again, not to be gross but it must have lasted 30 seconds. Meanwhile, I'm facing the door, praying the elevator goes faster and trying not to blow my ear drums out by not laughing. Finally, we got to his floor and he dashes out. I followed and took the stairs the remaining two flights.

all of the stories on this thread are funny, but yours actually made me laugh out loud! thats right, i LOL'd! funnyyyyyy!:D

  5. Remember that gratuities are automatically added. I forgot all about this on my first cruise and whenever a server brought me the bill, I added a 15% gratuity and cheerfully signed the bill. Cost me a small fortune!

oh my lord! we did this too! our bar servers loved us for our ignorance lol

    • dont book excursions thru the cruise line. SO overpriced and over packed! the best excursion we took was cave tubing in belize. it was only 35 a person (the ship wanted 99 a person ), and it was just my group of 7 friends and the guide!(really though, if its a full day excursion, you *may* want to book with the cruise line to be sure you wont miss the ship)
    • if the ship allows, bring on the alloted amt of wine. im gonna bring 2 bottles of champagne and make my own morning mimosa's! and, gonna bring a glass to the formal dinner. i will probably pack some plastic champagne flutes from my wedding 7 yrs ago.
    • dont bother with the spa on board. the services are nice, but SO overpriced! get a massage on the beach. its unbelievable, getting a rub down while listening to the waves.... and really good prices too!
    • DONT FORGET TO BARTER! while in most ports, its pretty much expected for you to bargain. go low! i got a pendant for $12 that he originally wanted $35 for (but for you? $25) im sure you say that to all the girls!

  6. Id be a penny pincher if i wasnt with DH! he doesnt want to worry about what he is spending and he is a pretty big drinker, so i dont get to save to much lol... now if i were cruising with my mom or solo, then that would be a different story! i think it would be fun to see how low i could keep my on board account.

this time, we are planning 1,000 freaking dollars for our onboard account for one freaking week on the ship . this disgusts me lol, but thats what DH wants

lets hope and pray we dont spend all that and get some back a the end! (were paying cash for the acct, no cc cards)

  7. CELERY! YUCK!

other than that im really open, i just wont eat anything made with blood (like blood sausage) not only because its disgusto but also for religious reasons. and i wont eat any organs! no heart, liver, brain, haggis, etc for me! i dont think thats unreasonable! though i have eaten pig tongue...

oh yeah, i cant do anchovies blecchhhhh

  8. I just went to the dollar store to start picking up things for my dec cruise, heres what i got:

Luau door fringe (for cabin door) looks kinda like this, but cheaper lol:

    http://www.costumesupercenter.com/accessories+makeup-luau+accessories/24779AM-tropical-bird-door-curtain.html

small package duct tape - can attach door fringe, and for other jobs if necc.

3 outlet adapter - smaller than the extension cord bar thing, and has 3 plugs.

1st aid kit - only has bandages, but ill add some otc pills on my own. i got sick once with a wicked cold on a cruise and buying meds on the ship was $$$$$!

ill go back and pick up other things as time goes on, like deoderant, shampoo, conditioner, soap. i buy those there and then leave em behind in the stateroom so i dont have to pack em home.

    I <3 THE DOLLAR TREE!

  9. *BUMP*

    • camera
    • relevant cruise/plane docs (of course!)
    • swim suit
    • black pants or white pants (can go with any top at dinner in MDR and look nice)
    • $$$$$!!!

i guess if i have those things, im all set! dont let me fool you, i bring a lot more ;)

  10. Love my boca clips, thanks CC! My sister loves silly gadgets, so I knew she'd like these. It was so windy our last sea day, everyone else was having a hard time keeping their towels from blowing around.

never heard of those b4 so i googled it, what a good idea!

i just found some on ebay for 6 bucks, i think ill get em before my next trip :)

  11. I am getting so excited about cruising on the Splendor in dec that I dreamt about it last night!!

A few questions/comments about the ship (its my first time not only on the splendor, but on carnival too! ive only done RCCI, NCL and celeb):

A little more detail about whats available on the ship... exactly what dining options are there?

Has anyone tried the sushi bar? we L.O.V.E. sushi! i also heard that sometimes they serve tapas. is that true?

apparently Im hungry, first 2 questions have to do with food :o:p

is the mini-golf really crowded all the time? it seems to me that ppl would want to do that all the time, especially with kids.

also the movie nights, is that really crowded and hard to get seats?

what kind of special parties are there? i mean like special deck parties.

i have other questions too but i dont want to be a nuisance :p

i feel like i dont want to even sleep on the trip, i want to pack so much in! by the time we go, itll be 4 yrs since our last cruise, so i feel like a newbie all over again (but with more knowledge) and i love that feeling :D

  12. Has anyone been in an 8C balcony on the Empress deck? I was wondering if there is shade or are they full sun. Also, are they a little bit private or can you look straight down onto the balcony from above? Thanks in advance for your help.

cant answer that question, but you and I are on the same sailing :D 66 more days!!!

  13.

I'm also PLATINUM, so when I board I race through the ship and try to get as many pics as I can before the "masses" arrive and blurr or block off so much. Sometimes I get a little in a hurry and some of my pics are blurred.

    Thanks again, for your comments.

I just checked out your photos! awesome :) i love how they are all empty rooms, you sure did some racing around :p

I have a couple questions though, the samples in the bathroom. are they in all rooms or just cuz youre plat?

did you find the sun to be blocked a lot because of the raised sides of the pool area where the movie screen is?
