This may sound silly, but I am trying to estimate how much cash I am going to need for each port for my family of 6. I understand that taxi’s charge by the person. If you have taken a taxi from the port to Magen’s Bay Beach can you share the rate per person?
Also, does the bar at the beach take credit cards or is it cash only?
Thank you!

Ellis was very nice and patient on the phone when I spoke with him last week. He even ended up calling me to ask me a follow up question.

Ellis is on FB. “Tours with Ellis” You can message him and he will respond the same day. I called him last week to book a rainforest tour.

I know a lot of places do not permit young children to zip line. They usually have kids wait until they are 10 or so to do the actual zip lines. They often let them do other activities (obstacle courses) if they have them and they are appropriate.
We have 4 active kids (12-20) and will be there for 3 days before our cruise. We plan to visit the forts, Old San Juan, rent a kayak or paddle board (bunch of places on laguna del condado), and visit some beaches. (A few ideas) I’d love to visit the rainforest but not sure what will be open.
Whatever you decide I am sure you will have fun! [emoji3]

I was looking into visiting when we started planning our trip. I read that the bioluminescence was dimmer than it was in the past. I had read this in several older articles. I ended up not researching any further because it sounded like we had to stay in a different hotel than the one we already booked in San Juan (and we are traveling with 4 older kids, and I just was just hesitant). I am not sure if the luminescence comes and goes. I also do not know how the hurricane effected it. If you do end up going please share your experience. When I first heard about it, I really wanted to go - may have to reconsider if it is worth it! (And I have time to change plans!)

“PORT ST. MAARTEN:--- Royal Caribbean Line’s (RCL) Grandeur of the Seas will be the first commercial cruise vessel to return to the destination post-Irma on Sunday, November 5th. RCL as of that date will also be carrying out an adjusted cruise itinerary for the remainder of 2017 which will be published within short.
Grandeur of the Seas was launched in 1996 and is part of the Vision-class of RCL. The vessel has 11 decks and carries 2,446 passengers and 760 crew, and went through a comprehensive revitalization in Cadiz, Navantia Shipyard in May 2012.
A delegation from RCL recently met with Port St. Maarten Board, Management and Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Mellissa Arrindell-Doncher, about the quick recovery efforts of the destination that are underway.
Port St. Maarten Management and Board briefed the RCL delegation about the current state of affairs at the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facilities. Information was also provided about the Great Bay Beach Promenade, the commercial center of Philipsburg, Front Street and other areas of interest from a tourism perspective.
RCL Executives carried out a site visit as part of their destination readiness assessment to accept cruise passengers, and the availability by early November of tours, shore excursions, shopping, beaches, and other cruise tourism-related amenities.
RCL was full of praise for Port St. Maarten Board, Management and Government with respect to the diligence carried out by the aforementioned to get the country ‘cruise ready’ for November in order to bring in much needed foreign exchange into the economy that would kick-start the economic engine of the country – (cruise) tourism...”

My peers in Houston just told me that school was just cancelled there for Monday for the Houston School District. Really hope everything works out for everybody.

The problem is that area is low and floods, can be REALLY hard to get around. Give yourself time to get to port.

My coworkers are in Houston and are very concerned about flooding from the rain. Good Luck!

This may be a silly question, but I am asking it. I have not been on a cruise in 20+ years and I really don't remember what we did last time. I am looking for ideas. How do you carry your ID, credit cards, etc when you go to the beach? I am especially worried about when we go swimming. I don't want these items to get stolen when we are in the water. What is the best solution?

We plan to rent a car on St. Marten - really easy to get around. I think we are just going to take taxi to Magen Bay on St. Thomas then do some shopping near port. We have done that in past and had fun.

Hi! We will be on the cruise with you! Love that you are documenting your pre-cruise experience!
My DH and I will be traveling with our four kids: DD (20), DS (17), DS (14), and DD (12). We are excited to share this cruise with the kids as this will be their first cruise. My husband and I have not been on one since our honeymoon almost 24 years ago. With one in college and one ready to graduate high school next year we decided it was time!
I’m glad to see that you need a staging area also! I just determined that we need to take an extra suitcase for all of the “stuff” we have to take! I’m glad to say that I am 98% done with packing and I am currently on autopilot trying to get through today and tomorrow.
We are heading to San Juan on Wednesday. Cannot wait! [emoji907]
