  1. My flight was cancelled and I am unable to make it to FL. Carnival changed the itinerary and stated guests who do not wish to sail on the new itinerary would receive a future cruise credit in the amount paid. However, when I spoke to them, because I purchased the protection plan, I wouldn't be eligible for a credit and that I would have to file a claim. I waited until this morning to officially cancel my booking and have filed a claim.... if they do end up actually cancelling the cruise due to ports remaining closed, will Carnival refund or will I still have to wait for the insurance to process the claim?

  2. What's the point of lets do a 3 day cruise. They should just cancel the whole thing & avoid people flying in etc.

Especially a 3 day cruise to Nassau.. right in the path of Irma.. yeah that makes a whole lot of sense. Why would you send a ship to a damaged area...considering what's happened to Barbuda, Antigua, St. Martin.... I don't have a good feeling for Nassau or Southern Florida. I'll be dealing with the insurance company today, my flight was already cancelled, so even if I wanted to do the 3 day one, I have no way of getting there.

  3. the emergency management for dade county announced today Port of Miami will be closed as of 8 am Sat. All ships will have to leave the port on Friday. There is a list of cancelled cruises on this site which shows all lines.

Where are you getting this information?? Because I see nothing on the Port of Miami's website in terms of closing. And if that is the case why has Carnival (and other cruise lines) not cancelled any ships that are due to leave out of the Port of Miami over the weekend/Monday?

  4. I was not trying to down play the risks involved with hurricane season, so my apologies for sounding that way. What I meant was it can be a risk for people outside of hurricane season as well, whether it be from blizzards, tornadoes, etc. Yes the cruise itself will go if those weather events occuring but it is still a risk those people take.

I realized I was taking a risk booking this time of year due to hurricanes but I did not expect to have two major hurricanes be within a week or so of each other. I don't think anyone who booked for this time of year had expected it to be this bad...

  5. So now I await the decision on Victory/ Sept 11 / Miami. The issue of getting into the airport concerns me as much as the cruise itself, although Delta has already relaxed their cancellation policy.

Yep, I am on the same one. I'm booked to fly down early Sunday. But the person I was going to stay with might be leaving FL herself... So... Yeah a decision would be nice to know. I don't want her to feel obligated to stay because of me.

  6. Everyone knows that you can get blizzards in Dec. Jan. and Feb. Why take a flight then?

Being from Maine, this is quite true. And sometimes we even have blizzards in Oct/Nov and as late as April/May. Yes this is peak hurricane season, we get it. But there are other times of the year that can be just as risky.

  7. I'm with you. I'm praying they cancel. As much as I've looked forward to this cruise I'd rather not be worried about getting there then worried about rough seas and rain and all that fun stuff that comes with a hurricane on top of not knowing if I'll have a vehicle to return to. I love cruising as much as the next person but come on, I would much rather reschedule. And I don't need to hear another "that's what you get for booking in hurricane season" yea, I get it, your comments aren't helping anyone.

I am feeling the same, I'm booked on the Victory that is due to leave on 9/11 out of Miami. I am from Maine and I'm terrified of getting stuck there with no place to go. And I'm with you on the told you so type comments-It's not helpful in any means and actually quite inconsiderate. No different than the folks who live there....

  8. With every update, my optimistic light dims a little bit. Now I'm at: "I hope Miami survives and we are just delayed a day and have a fabulous 7 day cruise instead of an 8 day cruise."

I honestly don't even think I have much optimism at this point, considering I'm supposed to be flying down on the 10th and leaving on the 11th on the Victory. Hate not being able to do anything but just wait... wait to see if Carnival cancels/airlines cancel, etc. I have to work the day before I'm supposed to leave, so I don't have much wiggle room at all :(. sigh...

  9. I have a question to anyone that has experience in hurricanes.... How far out is the wind shear felt? I'm worried that our flight that morning is going to be canceled due to high winds even though the cruise will still embark normally.

The solution seems to be to try to fly in Friday night, but then what if the hurricane comes earlier and the cruise is delayed or canceled and now I'm stuck in Florida during a hurricane?

Experience has shown that Carnival seems to make very last minute decisions on these things, so I'm trying to look out for myself.

I have the same worry about getting stuck in FL during a hurricane. Mine is Carnival Victory which is supposed to leave on Monday 9/11 and I'm flying in on 9/10-supposed to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale around 1:20pm and stay with a relative in West Palm area and she was going to bring me to the Miami port Monday morning. I just hope Carnival will make a decision early enough so that those flying in don't get stuck in it. I'm from Maine, I don't really have much experience with hurricanes as not many make it up here and if they do, they have died down quite a bit and aren't nearly as destructive.

  10. I'm flying down to Ft. Lauderdale on the 10th and boarding the Victory on the 11th. I really hope I'm able to get there and board. I think based on what I'm seeing after that time we should be good to go since the Victory is going to Key West and Cozumel. I just am hoping there isn't an interruption in getting down there >.<
