  1. Windstar is not offering a transfer service, so we have pre-booked a transfer service from our Athens hotel. Our plans so far are to depart the hotel one hour before embarkation, and hope to find the location easily with our taxi, allowing some extra time to find the right cruise terminal. I am just annoyed that the Windstar telephone receptionists seem to have no clue. Why they can't specify which terminal is beyond me.

  2. I prefer booking in advance, not only to get the 10% discount, but so that I have pre-purchased as much as possible before my trip, so I am not constantly shelling out cash during my trip and running to an ATM. Only works if you are certain of your itinerary and plans, but I believe once you purchase a ticket from City Sightseeing, it is valid for use within 3 months of booking. So if your plans change slightly, you can still take the tour.

"Tickets are valid for two operating days after redemption of the E-Ticket .

Your E-Ticket is valid and redeemable for up to 3 months as of your booking"

  3. We will be staying at NJV Athens Plaza, just two doors down from GB. We are in Athens only one night pre-cruise and don't want to splurge on our hotel as we have other special accommodations planned for our 18 day itinerary. We got a great rate for iPrefer members of €235/night for a Superior room with balcony and city view including breakfast, tax, upgrade upon availability, wifi, early checkin and late checkout.

Grand Bretagne is across from Syntagma Square, which I think is a great location in Athens. They have a rooftop restaurant which looks nice for the views if you want an upscale meal but we are going for a more casual authentic Greek restaurant for our one night. There is also a City Sightseeing Hop on Hop Off bus tour right at Syntagma, another reason it's a good location. Since you are planning something special for your anniversary, Grand Bretagne is an excellent choice.

Others may want to also look at King George, a luxury hotel situated in-between GB and NJV.

  4. Sailing on Windstar Star Breeze from Athens to Venice from September 16-24, 2017...

My Windstar cruise documents consisted of an invoice and itinerary sent by email which shows the Port of Embarkation in Athens as "Cruise Terminal, Akti Xaveriou, Piraeus, Athens, 18545".

I am trying to find more specific information as I understand there are three cruise terminals at Piraeus, non of which are listed as Xaveriou. A direct phone call to Windstar did not help, they were unable to provide any specific info under than the above quoted address.
