  1. First, we are there for three days pre-cruise. Second, you seem confused, as there are three established trails, the longest of which is 8km round trip. See http://www.montagne-pelee.com/en/Hiking.html. I have no idea whether they are marked, hence my question, but your condescending response is less than helpful. Take care.

  2. Has anyone hiked Mount Pelee? We'd prefer to hike on our own rather than join a tour, but I'm not sure whether that's possible. Are the trails marked at all (or does someone have a recommendation for a good trail map)? I'm sure we could get a taxi there, but would it be hard to get one back to the pier? Is it possible to hire a car to drive us there and back, without booking a guided tour package? Any information or recommendations greatly appreciated!

  3. Has anyone hiked Middleham falls, or another waterfall? We'd prefer to hike on our own rather than join a tour, but I'm not sure whether that's possible. 4. Has anyone hiked in Pointe-a-Pitre, either falls or volcano? We'd prefer to hike on our own rather than join a tour, but I'm not sure whether that's possible. 5. A group of four adults would like to wander around Cannes beaches/ restaurants/ bars/ cafes during our port stop. Do we need to plan this out/ make reservations, or can we expect that there will be enough availability in these types of places that we can be spontaneous? If it matters, we are porting there on a Friday.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for beaches/ restaurants/ bars/ cafes near the port (or a short cab ride away)? We don't want to stay anywhere all day, so recommendations for places that don't have massive daily entry fees are appreciated. We are also planning to drink some french wine during our visit, so beaches with restaurants or bars are a must.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Thanks for the follow up. I'll have to stop recommending white sayings as I didn't know there were two resorts.

when we went in the beginning of when we went in the beginning of December last year we definitely booked the White Sands and we were on the water slides lazy river excetera.

We have even throwing around the idea of going back there for a week.

    Have a great weekend

    Bill

Water slides are included with both! I'm just pretty sure the lazy river is on the BW side, that is what we were told. The pool cabanas that can be rented are definitely on the BW side, and the bracelets for the two sides were different. Have a great weekend!

  7. so so you're saying the lazy river is on the Blue Waters side?

When we were there last December I didn't even know there was a Blue Waters and we were definitely in the lazy river.

has Blue Waters has Blue Waters just recently opened?

I don't want to be getting out around his information I don't want to be giving out around his information in the future if things have changed since we went.

    Bill

Blue Waters opened last year I think. We were there last week and the lazy river is definitely on the Blue Waters side.

  8. How easy is it to use both the White Sands and its sister property, Blue Waters? How far is the walk between the two places? Once you have checked in at one property, do you need to check in at the second one also?

They are right next to each other - definitely walking distance. The catch is that most of the excursion companies sell day passes only for White Sands - if you go with Shore Excursioneer, you get passes for both. But, if you get passes from the other companies (at least the ones I was able to find online), it is for WS only (and you can't access BW, the lazy river, that side of the beach, etc.). If you do both, you should check in at BW, because if you have BW bands they work at WS (the reverse is not true).

  9. We did the tour through Shore Excursioneer last week and it was amazing. Shore Excursioneer has a package where you can access both resorts (White Sands AND Blue Waters), which was nice because the lazy river is in Blue Waters. The driver was awesome, super nice, would definitely have trusted her to keep booster seats. The van fit 6-7 people. The height requirements for the water slide are 48 inches. My daughter is around 47 inches and she was fine, so they don't measure at the top, but it may be that they would stop a kid that wasn't on the border of the height - not sure about that. Highly recommend both Royalton and Shore Excursioneer - this was the best tour we took on the cruise!

  10. Has anyone booked rooms that are not adjacent or connecting, and then been able to switch rooms later? I assume that at some point closer to final payment, people will start canceling, and there will be the potential to switch to rooms that are next to each other, or even connecting. I'm just unsure of the likelihood of this happening - has anyone else tried this and had success?

  11. I'm thinking about switching from Norwegian Epic to the MSC Divina for an upcoming cruise to the Mediterranean. My kids are 7 and 10, and they are English-speaking (and American). Are the kids on an MSC ship less likely to speak English than on a Norwegian ship? Do the staff in the Kids program speak English?

  12. Does anyone have recent experience booking Playa Mia for the day directly through their website (with transfers)? The resort has great reviews through Travel Advisor, but I just saw an article yesterday about how Travel Advisor deletes overly negative reviews/ reviews talking about dangerous experiences (tainted alcohol, violent crime) and so now I'm wondering how reliable the reviews are. I've searched CC and facebook sites, and seen some positive reviews of Playa Mia, so I'm not super worried, but figured I'd ask directly.

  13. Does anyone have recent experience going to Royalton White Sands/ Blue Waters from Falmouth? And/ or booking an excursion through Shore Excursioneer? The resort and the excursion company both have great reviews through Travel Advisor, but I just saw an article yesterday about how Travel Advisor deletes overly negative reviews/ reviews talking about dangerous experiences (tainted alcohol, violent crime) and so now I'm wondering how reliable the reviews are. I've searched CC and facebook sites, and seen some positive reviews of both Royalton and Shore Excursioneer, so I'm not super worried, but figured I'd ask directly.

  14. We just returned from our cruise and thoroughly enjoyed our day at Royalton White Sands/Blue Waters. The beach and pools were beautiful. We had a lot of fun on the waterslides and swimming in the lazy river. There are a lot of places to have lunch. We decided on the buffet for the many choices and enjoyed eating at an outside table. There is also an ice cream venue (other than the ice cream offered in the buffet). We participated in the workout in the pool session and watched the volleyball game between the White Sands' and Blue Waters' guests while we were having some drinks in the swim up bar pool.

I recommend this place, but have only one negative concern: The resort keeps your Driver's License for the duration of your stay and you pick it up at the guard station when leaving. I'm glad we didn't have our passports with us because they asked for those. Maybe we were paranoid, but we really felt uneasy about them having our D/L. Thank goodness we remembered to pick them up!

Thanks so much for this review! I have a quick question: do you remember what time the bars opened? I've seen others post 10AM, but I just got my confirmation from ShoreExcursioneer, and it says the bar (singular) opens at noon. Just curious which is correct. Thanks!

  15. We travel on the Epic in the Haven in 3 weeks, with 3 adults (myself, husband and sister) and 2 kids (my 2 sons ages 13 and 10). But we have agreed my sister will have the 2nd bedroom and bathroom to herself, which leaves my kids in the living room.

My older son will be on the couch. My younger son says he will sleep on the floor, which is what he prefers and how he sleeps at home (why? Who knows). But I was hoping the steward can bring out the upper berth mattress from the 2nd bedroom every night and lay it on the floor for him. Does anyone know, is that even possible (I.e., can the mattress be moved)? Otherwise, I will need a set of bedding for him to put down on the floor.

Were you able to get them bring out the upper berth mattress, or was there another solution you found? Trying to fit 4 adults and two kids in an Epic 2BR this summer without forcing any of the adults to sleep in the same room as the kids!

  16. Hi,

We are looking at a cruise on Epic this summer. There will be 6 of us. Has anyone experience of 6 people in the 2 room Haven suite, and in particular is there a configuration that will allow 1 double bed and 4 singles/twins? Could the double sofa, for example, be switched out for two single sofas, or can a roll away bed be put in there for the evenings?

Many thanks to anyone with experience of this for guidance.

I know that this was several years ago, but did you end up sailing with 6 in that room? Were they willing to provide a rollaway?

  17. same problem with 4 adults and 2 kids as described above, The sleeping arrangements are 2, 3, and 1 (master, small bedroom, living room couch). So either the 2nd couple is in the small room WITH one of the kids above, or one parent is in the small room with BOTH kids and then other parent is on the couch.

Is it possible to remove the mattress from the pullman and put it on the floor in the living room for a child? The other option I'm wondering about is asking for memory foam/ egg crate, and having my kids sleep on that in the living room. (I have read you can no longer request a rollaway bed, even if you are not using it to increase the sleeping capacity of the room but rather just using it to change the configuration).

  18. We just upgraded to an L1 Oceanview Crown Loft Suite on the Oasis. I have a question about automatic upgrades - if I select the "I prefer an automatic upgrade" option in the C&A preferences, is there any chance they would "upgrade" us to an L2 or an OS? I wouldn't say no to an upgrade to a Sky class suite (which I know is HIGHLY unlikely anyway, although apparently there is a Sky Loft available and our sailing is in a month so who knows), but other than that wouldn't want to switch rooms. Does anyone know where L1 CL falls in the hierarchy compared to L2 CL or OS?

  19. We are planning to take our two kids on the Epic in June (to the Mediterranean). Just found out that European schools don't get out until July. Can anyone tell me whether there will still be kids on this cruise? I don't know whether to switch to a July itinerary - we'd prefer to go in June, but not if my kids will have no one to play with in the kids club.

(Apologies for cross-posting - also posted this to a few FB groups).

  20. We are in a Grand Suite. Our Set Sail pass lists 11:30 as the boarding time, and states "In the event that we are able to board prior to our planned boarding time, please enjoy lunch at the Windjammer cafe and the public areas as staterooms will not be ready upon boarding." Does this mean that suites will be available at the planned boarding time (11:30), or are they ready at the same time as the regular rooms (1:00)?

(Also, I know suites can go to the suite lounge rather than WJ - just not clear from the language on the boarding pass whether our room will be ready at the time printed).
