I really enjoyed all of your input.. I also don't mind a bit of wear and tear, it's to be expected to a point. Major issues not so much, sewage smells, poor a/c or heating,. Good point on what next year brings in the way of the size of the cruise ships making the rounds. Would suggest making sure your ground tours are booking in advance since there will be more people looking to snatch those spaces up.

Thank you for the info on the Golden, I am going to Alaska in September 2019 and I have 2 bookings...one on the Golden, one on the Royal. I am reading as many posts on the likes and dislikes pertaining to both ships. Every time I read a bunch of dislikes I'm ready to cancel one only to find contradictions a week later, I still have plenty of time, just want to get this long awaited cruise right !

I thought I had a good land tour and cabin picked out, but reading those other threads makes you doubt yourself a bit. Thanks for the info, had a hard time thinking that Princess would just let the Golden fall apart at this point before P & O gets her.

Quick question... I am booked on the Golden next year to Alaska,when I have read recent posts on the Golden all I read is it smells "like a septic tank" and looks tired, rusty, etc despite recent refurbishment... your thoughts please??

Thanks for quick answer... seems like I read either " ship rusting, service lacking, but great food or beautiful ship terrible food and service" so much on the different ships and lines kinda scares one in finding the overall best pick. I realize that you go to Alaska to SEE ALASKA but lines are similar in ports, land seems closely matched from what I read.

I am supposed to make a decision on cruising on the Westerdam or Royal or Golden Princess today "yes I have to deposits at this point on all of them " to Alaska and a cruisetour. Why did you pick the Westerdam over any other choice and are you happy with your choice?
