  1. Question for those of you who may have been given future cruise credits in the past...

Must the cruise credit be used for only one cruise, or may it never applies to multiple cruises? For example, if the cruise I'm receiving the credit for cost $1500 and the replacement cruise I select costs $1200, would I be able to apply the remaining $300 to another cruise, or would I forfeit the $300.

Of course, I will call Carnival with this question at a later date, but it's not urgent for me to call now while they are likely dealing with much more important calls.

I don't know the answer to your question but I will say I just learned something while cashing in my credit this week. If you book a cabin in a category lower than the one you had booked on the sailing that you received the credit from you forfeit part of your credit. I originally had a category of an oceanview room booked which they did not have available on the new sailing I was booking. Was told they only had interior rooms. The new sailing was much cheaper than my original one. My FCC was for $1607 (they refund you the taxes and fees, prepaid gratuities, etc... Your credit is for the cruise fare alone) and the total for my new sailing was only $1577 including taxes, fees, and gratuities. So pretty it pretty much evens out except because of the lower cabin class I was going to have to pay another $556. Forfeiting roughly a third of my credit is ridiculous. Just keep that in mind when looking to re-book.

  2. Thanks. Just finished boarding up and am out the door. The traffic is bumper to bumper heading north. The problem with a hurricane is if you survive the storm you then have to live without electricity, water, cell phone, cable, internet for up to several weeks depending on the damage. Not fun.....On a good note this is the first time in 13 years that I have had to evacuate for a storm. Used to live in Maine and I will take hurricanes any day over blizzards. Just re booked our trip on the magic that was suppose to depart tomorrow and will go on the Halloween trip on the 28th. It was a very smooth process. I think Carnival has done a great job and I would not want to be in their war room trying to figure all of these cruise and ports out.

Not sure where in FL you are but some friends of mine left Disney yesterday. Orlando to Chattanooga TN took them just under 20 hours. “All hotels booked up between Orlando and Chattanooga. It looks like the apocalypse out here... thousands of people lined up on the sides of the interstate. At least 200-300 cars at every truck stop or gas station that still has gas."

  3. The other consideration is the employees of Carnival that work at the port. Sure, the storm will be gone by Monday and there might even be incremental returns to normalcy , but isn't it reasonable to believe that the employees, whom Carnival claims to be so concerned about, might not be able to work for a few days or longer.

Carnival actually has a "Carnival Employee Evacuation Cruise". The Enchantment of the Seas sailing was cancelled so they offered employees and their families to evacuate via the ship. The ship will return when it is safe to do so. Not that they won't need time to tend to their homes and such afterwards but I thought it was great of Carnival to do that.

  4. Is the credit for the full cruise or the shortened cruise? Are they only going to give a refund based on the shortened cruise?

It is for the full cruise HOWEVER, I did find out some info I thought I would pass along (after 3 hours on the phone). I was booking another cruise which online was sold out (for 3 person cabin at least). I asked just to make sure they didn't have anything available. She said that they had one room left and it was an interior room. Fine by me, at least I still get to cruise. One of the things that contributed to such a long hold time, other than all the other Irma and Harvey cruise credits being cashed in, was because there was some confusion when trying to apply my credit. I was told that if you re-book a cruise in a lower class than your original booking you loose some of your credit. I originally booked an ocean view room and this was an interior. She ended up having a balcony room that they were able to give me (sleeps 4 so they try not to book less than that in the room). I don't know what the breakdown was and how much credit I was loosing because I was eager to get booked and off the phone but from an interior room on the 2nd level front to an balcony mid-ship (deck 6 I believe) was only $53 more per person.

  5. On hold with Carnival now and they are saying at least a 30 minute hold time. Also it appears their offices are closing as of tomorrow and will re-open on Tuesday. However, I do know that some of the reps work from home and will still be available.

I have now been on the phone with Carnival for 2 hours. I opted to take a credit instead of going with the changed plan. It took about 10 tries to get through (busy signal). It only took about 10-15 mins to get someone on the phone and cancel. I was then transferred to a booking agent to book a new cruise. I barely waited 5 mins for that. She got all the info quickly, the problem is she has to get a hold of someone in another department to verify the credit and get it applied. After the 1st hour she offered to call me back when she had the other dept. on the line. She did that but still having to wait because of the other dept.. She is very apologetic and I pretty much expected a wait like this.

P.S. I think I can recite every "Fun Fact"

  6. So , I am on the Conquest which was suppose to leave on September 9th . IT is saying leaving Monday as scheduled ?

IT was scheduled to leave Saturday out of Ft Lauderdale . anyone know if it is still out of Ft Lauderdale and where it is sailing ?

I have flights booked for Friday ......Where do i changed them to ?

    Thanks

    Charley

    Carnival Conquest – September 9

    Carnival Glory – September 9

    Carnival Magic – September 9

    Carnival Splendor – September 9

    Carnival Vista – September 9

We are still evaluating the potential impact the storm may have on our scheduled itineraries and will provide an update on Thursday at 1:00 PM.

  7. Carnival has posted that the Magic will be sailing out of Miami on Monday....guests will receive pro rated credit for shortened cruise.

I believe that is incorrect. This is what I read:

    Carnival Conquest – September 9

    Carnival Glory – September 9

    Carnival Magic – September 9

    Carnival Splendor – September 9

    Carnival Vista – September 9

We are still evaluating the potential impact the storm may have on our scheduled itineraries and will provide an update on Thursday at 1:00 PM.

  8. Port Canaveral closing for Saturday. I am also on Carnival Magic on the 9th. The Magic is in Belize today so I am sure they will keep it a couple of days longer in the gulf and change our itinerary to a 5 day. We should know this afternoon. The 11:00 update has moved the storm a little bit more east. I just had a friend try to extend her hotel reservation and they are getting crazy money for additional days. Also anybody flying in and renting cars need to realize that many stations are out of gas. Everybody be safe.

Where did you find this info? I looked on the Port Canaveral Port Authority website. They have updates posted about the storm but not that they will be closed.

  9. I am booked on Magic 9/9 out of Port Canaveral. If by some miracle it doesn't get cancelled I am wondering if we will even be able to get down there. Fearing gas will be out as a news article in Orlando reported "People are also urged to fill their gas tanks before gas stations could see long lines and a supply shortage.".

  10. We are on that same trip. I don't know what to do. Supposed to be driving to Florida on Friday, also kind of nervous about leaving my vehicle parked there if the hurricane does hit Port Canaveral. At this point I'm honestly just hoping they will cancel, I'd rather reschedule than be worried or disappointed about the weather the whole time.

Well crap. I didn't even think about the car. We are on the 9/9 Magic and are also driving down on Friday. I have been so focused on whether or not we will sail, the thought about the car never crossed my mind. I may just park at the airport and shuttle to the port. I would think it would be a safer option but I could be wrong. Seems like being 45 mins inland would pose less of a likelihood of coming back to a damaged vehicle.
