  1. Mine are new, the skinny jeans you wear with boots. I don't even own a pair with holes in them. Was planning to wear a nice sweater or shirt with them. I think I'll toss in a couple pair of slacks, too, and wear them the first night til I can see what the other folks are wearing. Do you think it will be chilly during the day on the ship? I've been to the CA beaches in the winter before and it was pretty cool in the middle of the day. It's been so cold here, I just can't imagine wearing summer clothes in the winter. Thanks for the input!:)

  2. I'm packing now, heading to CA in the morning to do B2B 4 day CA coastals. It's mid winter and the pacific ocean so I think it will be cold, especially at night. Is it appropriate to wear nice denim blue jeans and a sweater for dinner in the dining room (non-formal night) with boots? I'm afraid it will be too cold for my standard light weight cruising clothes. I could bring some slacks that I wear when I go to work. I just don't want to over pack. What do you think?

  3. I have been on the Catalina cruise. Yes they do open up because they to go Mexico as well. After you leave the American ports they open up. They may do it the first night is well because they will leave US waters, but you cannot get it until the cruise ends anyhow. But I did not pay attention the first night and am not quite as sure about that.

Oh, I forgot and you just reminded me! On Princess, you can't take your cigarettes to your cabin. I totally forgot about that! Thanks for reminding me. (Yes, I know they hold any liquor that you purchase.) They don't do that on RCL, NCL or Carnival. At least they didn't the last time I cruised those lines. Thanks everyone for your input.

  4. I'm going on a B2B, both 4 day cruises, out of San Pedro. 1st port is Catalina, 2nd port is Santa Barbara. Since these ports are not far from the CA coast, do the ships go out far enough for the duty free shop to open up? I assume they do. This might be a silly question? And, if any of you have sailed on one of these lately, do they still sell cigarettes (cartons) and liquor in the duty free shops on these particular cruises? This will be my first coastal cruise. Thanks! Yes, I'm aware of the smoking policy. :)

  5. I'm semi-new to Princess. It's been several years since my first Princess cruise. I'm doing a B2B (4 days ea.) on the Crown on 2/2 and 2/6 (next week) (California Coastal). I'm taking my elderly mother for her birthday which is on the 2/6, which is the first day of our 2nd cruise. Is the Crown specialty restaurant open on the first night of a cruise? Can I book it now or do I have to wait til I board the ship on the 6th? I've searched Princess.com and can't find any info. Thanks for your help!

  6. Not to ask the same question over and over again, but we have cruises a bunch of times out of San Diego and San Pedro, and once out of Galveston. At those ports, they have a regular cruise terminal...i.e. a big building where you go through security, check in at an agent booth, then sit around on benches or seats until the boarding zone is called. Having never sailed out of the Carnival facility in Long Beach, it seems like alot of people check in at the Queen Mary, then end up waiting in an outside area??? Do they not have a regular cruise terminal where you can check in and then not have to wait in the sun or rain?

I was just going to ask this same question. Hopefully someone can answer it. I've read that people had to stand in the rain outside. Was it just slow getting into the main building? I don't understand why there were long lines outside either. I've always been able to go right into a cruise terminal as soon as I got there.

  7. On my 93 Tropicale cruise we started in San Juan and went to St. Thomas, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Aruba and Caracus, Venezuela. What a great itinerary it was. I loved Grenada and I don't think Carnival goes there anymore. I need to find a cruiseline that does.

  8. I came across this while cleaning a closet this afternoon and thought it might be a fun "days gone by" for a lot of you. Anyone ever travel on the Tropicale? This "Carnival Capers" (now known as the "Fun Times") is dated February 21, 1995. Unfortunately, I could not figure out how to make the document larger...

The Tropicale was my first Carnival cruise (93 or 94?). I was digging through stuff one day and ran across the Tropicale brochure they gave me onboard, which included all the decks. When I look back on it, the ship was so small, but seemed so big at the time. No balcony cabins that I can recall. Unfortunately I don't have my capers. Wish I did.

I had a great time on that cruise. Probably my favorite cruise to date. Thanks for posting it. I hope Mach can make it larger. Would love to see it.
