  1. I don't think you can block just aracade spending either, but you can get cards for kids that don't have the ability to charge things with them. We had a 5-year-old grandson with us, along with some older kids; we only blocked his because of his age and impulsivity. Otherwise it was a very serious talk with all the kids about what they were allowed to do or not do. The arcade was on the not allowed list.

We had 7 kids with us from 5-11, so we needed boundaries. We even made them read and sign a cruise behaviour contract! For the most part they did very well. We were even complimented by people at a nearby table the last night on their behaviour in the dining room--even though I thought it was a little chaotic at times with all those kids. That simple comment meant a lot.

I love the cruise contract idea. They will think twice before making a decision.

  2. We are going on our first cruise next month and I have a few questions. We will be on the Breakaway from NY to the Bahamas.

We are a party of 6 with 2 inside cabins. I understand the cabins are quite small but as first timers I am planning on not spending much time in the rooms. Any tips or tricks that might make our stay in the cabins a little more comfortable?

We have 11 year old twins and a 14 year. They are all shy and I am just wondering how the kid clubs work. Do they have a meet and greet for the kids we can sign up for? What type of activities will they have for the age groups? Besides the club and the pool and waterslides what other type of activities will there be? I know there are tons of fun things do but I am just trying to get an idea.

We have the drink package. Does that mean we can get drinks anywhere on the ship or are there specific locations, drink limits, drink types we need to be aware of? Is the drink package available as soon as we are onboard?

Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  3. Can someone please explain what type of deposit we need to make on our account once we are on the Breakaway? Is the deposit per person, or per room. We have 2 rooms. Do you recommend cash or a credit card. We already paid the service charges, and we have the drink package, plus the excursion are already taken care of. I don't know how many other things will incur costs other then specialty dining, spa or souvenirs. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  4. We parked at the pier. We arrived around 9:30, but no need to arrive that early (left room from traffic and such, which we did not encounter on a Sat morning). Took the elevator downstairs and checked our luggage. Walked into the terminal and got on line (figure 10am at this point). They started checking folks in around 10:30 and boarding about 45 minutes later.

Ok that isn't bad at all. I was expecting more lines and waiting. Thanks for the info

  5. We will be cruising for the first time out of NY in Nov. What is the process once we park? What time should we arrive? How many lines do we have to wait in? What do we do with our luggage?

    Thanks!!

  6. Hi,

I know everyone wonders about what to pack because of the weather but after doing this cruise about a dozen times the one thing I have learned is that the weather may be unpredictable but the inside of the ship is a nice constant temperature. Usually nice enough for shorts. So the first day plan on doing the inside stuff.

Oh, by the way we are on this cruise also.

    Ruth

Thank you Ruth. We will plan for some in door activities for the first and last day. I know there will be plenty to do but this is really our first winter vacation and first cruise. Just trying to get a feel for what to expect. Do you have any recommendations for parking in NY? We are debating on parking in port for convenience, or finding other options for a better price.

  7. What he said! We sailed in April and it was cold. Sailed in early October and it was cold. But some were swimming by afternoon of the second day on both cruises (hot tub for me.) Second day was fantastic.

Thank you. Hopefully it will be warm enough for the kids to enjoy to water park and the rope course.
