  1. I made reservations at Murano in advance of our cruise. Once on board I discovered that the one channel on our TV listed the menus for the entire week. When I discovered that my reservation was the same night as the 2nd Evening Chic night in the MDR, (also the night that Lobster was included on the menu), I was able to switch my reservation at Murano to a different night. And also make a reservation at our preferred select dining time in the MDR for the 2nd Evening Chic night.

  2. We had select dining for our Equinox Christmas cruise. Although not necessary, I went a head and made reservations at different times(depending on our schedule), each night. We were always seated upstairs with no wait. Those that didn’t have a reservation may have had a wait but the line moved quickly. We had the same waiter 3 of the 7 nights and he remembered our preferences, such as my husband used skim milk in his tea. I think you can request a table with others but we chose to dine alone and because we made advance reservations, we were always seated at a table for 2.

  3. We just returned from a Christmas cruise on the Equinox. Although I saw a few couples in the MDR in formal wear on evening chic nights, (women in evening gowns and a few men in tuxedos), I’d say 65% wore evening chic cocktail dresses for women and suits and ties or khakis and blazers with and without ties for the men. I was surprised to see others (25%-30%) dressed in casual wear. Golf shirts, Hawaiian shirts, collarless tops and jeans for men, women in casual pants and tops, jeans, capris and sun dresses. Although casual attire is discouraged on evening chic nights in the daily program, pretty much anything is permitted. I didn’t see anyone turned away. On other evenings in the MDR, some were dressed very casually...young girls in cut off jeans, men in sandals, men and women in flip flops, etc.

I was comfortable wearing dresses all week, dresses I’ve worn to weddings on the 2 evening chic nights and fun, colorful summery dresses that could be dresses up or dressed down the rest of the week.

  4. It's been 25+ years since my last cruise. We are not paying for internet when we cruise on Celebrity Equinox over Christmas. We hope to find a cafe with wi-fi while in San Juan on Christmas day so we can wish our adult children a Merry Christmas. But what number should we give them to contact us for emergencies while we're on the ship? Celebrity's customer service number on their website?. Thank you.

  5. The OP referred to a lock that has a secondary loop which is secured to the handle; this prevents the two zipper parts from moving. While the ballpoint pen method can unzip, the zipper can't be rezipped; too late, but you'll know something is wrong when you see your bag.

Correct, we were looking at the locks with 2 loops. The top loop hooks around the handle and the bottom of the lock has a loop that goes through the zipper. So anyone that uses the ballpoint pen technique can not Re zip the suitcase since it’s strapped onto the luggage handle. It doesn’t prevent theft but maybe it’s a deterrent?

  6. Questions regarding dining on the Equinox...DH wants to dress casual and dine in the Oceanview for breakfasts and dinners more than the Silhouette Dining Room and I'm the complete opposite. What are the pros and cons for both (if any)? Are there theme nights(Mexican/Italian, etc.) in the restaurants? Is lobster an option in Silhouette?

What was your favorite appetizer, entree, dessert, and specialty beverage served in Silhouette? What about Oceanview? Did you have preference for breakfasts, lunches and dinners? Whuch other free dining restaurants (and /or bars if you had to choose one) did you enjoy the most on your cruise?

Love hearing others recommendations, thank you!

  7. For us, sale is good if the price is lower than our reference. Since you already have a booked cruise, it may have been an acceptable price for you. Suggest you determine its daily price for your cabin category. You can use that to compare with the forthcoming sale and know if it’s a good deal. For us, we book when it is cheaper and choose our preferred cabin. We then monitor price movements for possible drop for re-faring within the allowed time. JMHO.

So when you monitor a drop for re-faring, is it through the same source you initially booked? Is it even possible to switch vendors when trying to get a cheaper fare? Just trying to educate myself for our next cruise. We bought our Christmas cruise through the cruise line in January and never did the research for a reduced fare. Probably could have saved some money if we did. I did , however call the cruise line when I saw the fare was advertised cheaper than what I was paying but the cheaper fare didn’t include the $300 on board credit or the two complimentary packages (classic beverage package and gratuities package) that we received with our initial booking. Thanks for the info.

  8. Hi everyone, my DH and I are finally taking our first cruise together in December after 27 yrs of marriage. I’m already excited to start scheduling our next cruise and read that there are Black Friday cruise sales. What type of discounts have you seen in the past or possibly gotten wind of for this year? Is there more of a savings booking now or would we find better deals by booking on our December cruise? We don’t have a preference on the itinerary and given that this will only be our 2nd cruise, as long as the ship has decent reviews the cruise line isn’t too important to us either. Lastly, are the sales Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Thanks!

  9. I'm in the same boat (well, 2 weeks later and a different ship). I don’t want to have to haul our luggage around Miami until our 4:45 flight. Just need to decide if we want to taxi out to MIA before sightseeing or go to South Beach which is less out of the way and drop our bags there. Thanks

  10. Rather than pay for an excursion, My husband and I are considering taking a taxi to Sapphire Beach to go snorkeling. From what I’ve read, the area near the reef has a strong current. I can swim but don’t swim laps on a regular basis. The beach doesn’t have life guards either. Has anyone had issues with the current and snorkeling at this beach? Thanks!

  11. My husband likes his meat (we’ll done) and his potatoes, and is not much for gourmet. I on the other hand enjoy fine dining so we’ll go with Murano’s. I want to take advantage of this opportunity so if the food is too foo foo for him, he can always head to the buffet afterwards! Thank you all!

  12. I’m the OP. I’m flying American. I usually try to check-in to my flights as soon as the window opens in hopes of not being in the last zone to board. I’ve been on flights where after already boarding folks ended up having to check their carryons because the overheads were full.

I was hoping I could check-in Friday for my Saturday flight home but I guess I’ll just wait until we arrive back in Miami. I was also curious as to whether or not the Equinox had a business center similar to a hotel where I could print a copy of my boarding pass. Call me anal but I always worry that I’ll have phone issues when I’m at the airport so I always carry a paper copy as a backup. I’m sure it will be fine. Thanks for everyone’s input!

  13. Hi, our cruise is at sea the day before our flight home. We aren't paying for internet service onboard the ship. Is there a business office or away to check-in for our flight home without incurring huge fees or do we have to wait until we're back in port? Thanks!

  14. With the prepaid tips, is the cabin steward aware of this upon our arrival? I just don’t want it to feel awkward at the end of the cruise when we don’t hand him an envelope. Granted I do plan to tip a little if warranted throughout the cruise but is it necessary for me to inform the cabin steward that I prepaid?

  15. We’re taking our first Christmas Cruise and have already prepaid our gratuities. I was considering wrapping up a small Christmas gift for our room steward, not as a bribe but just as a nice gesture give that they are working and away from their family over the holiday. Any suggestions on what to give them? If a gift card, which one or phone card?
