    Hi,

Not sure where to ask this. We are looking for the best travel masks. Perhaps something with a neck strap for taking on and off so we aren't always mask hunting? Are airlines require specific types of masks?

We find the behind the ear things really irritating over time......love to hear what you find has been best.

    Thanks, Kim

Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with Outdoor Research.
I bought the new mask from Outdoor Research that is a reusable 3 layer mask good for 30 washes. It has an incorporated filter (non-replaceable) as the middle layer. It is equivalent to an N95 but it does state that it is not for medical use. This is a brand new product. I have used the OR mask with an insert able filter and have been very happy with it. I will be using the new mask on the flight to LAX and on the Viking Hawaiian Sojourn voyage in December.

Most cruises do NOT require a pre test to get on the ship.

If the ship is sailing from a US port then according to the CDC a passenger MUST have a negative Covid test before boarding. It is up to the company whether it is a PCR/NAAT or an antigen test.

Just because Azamara has a higher crew to passenger ratio is meaningless in regards to maintenance.  How large is the engineering department on each ship?  That is the only real measure of how many people are dedicated to maintenance.  Cabin stewards, wait staff, bartenders, laundry and dishwashers to no maintenance on the ship.  And regardless of whether the ship is owned by Viking or Azamara, the maintenance plan will be almost identical, since it is required to follow the equipment manufacturer's (not the cruise line's) recommended maintenance schedule, and if the ship is found to not have followed the maintenance plan, the class society will issue a "condition of class" (kind of like points on your driver's license, but with a stipulation on when repairs or maintenance needs to be made up).

    Well stated chengkp75!

Let me also say that all your comments are very educational and greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to educate and enlighten us.

I enjoyed your comparison. I have never cruised with Viking or Norwegian.  I have never done a TA.  My cruises have been on Hurtiigruten, Celebrity, Azamara, Pearl Seas and Royal Caribbean.  DW says she will never go on Viking and we make joint decisions.  Engine failure on a 2 year old ship is a cause for concern.  But we do get Viking brochures.

Wondering what Zettie has against Viking.

  5. When we booked with the Viking agent not a TA we were told that we were inline for an upgrade if available. We booked a Deluxe Veranda DV6. We have since, as the Dec. 1st Cruise date nears, been upgraded to Deluxe Veranda DV4. It is possible that being on previous Viking Cruises entered into this. Just very happy that we’re were upgraded.

  6. Photos of the 2016 bar menu are included in the pictures I posted on Shutterfly. Here is a link to them. Scroll down to the second album called "Paperwork" to see them. You don't have to be a S'fly member in order to view them.

Loved the pictures! We are departing 12/1/17 on our first Viking Ocean trip and they are very enlightening. Thank You
