  1. This morning, the news said it's going to rain off and on all weekend. But the showers are going to be scattered and short lived. The only mention of flooding was specifically for low lying streets in Houston, which is a potential each and every time it rains ever.

In other words, you might need an umbrella but you'll get to the boat just fine. :)

Thank you! We are leaving for Houston in a couple hours. We are so excited!!

  2. Where did this sudden fear of Galveston flooding all the time come from? I'm really confused.

Anyway, the forecast doesn't look like a problem to me. There was no mention of flooding, torrential rains, or anything of the sort as of this morning's newscast. Just scattered rain showers.

I may have been misinformed, but was told there was bad flooding last week. I also saw a video from two weeks ago with cruise passengers walking through ankle to mid calf water. While I would wade through water to get to my cruise I would rather not. I used to live in Galveston (as a little girl) and loved playing in the little bit of flood water. Not so much as an adult, though.

  3. using miles for our flight so we don’t depart until 7:30pm. Our plan was to take Carnival shuttle to the airport, but now I’m thinking on staying on the ship as long as possible and then taking a taxi. I think it would be around $100 plus tip? Any other ideas? I don’t want to deal with our luggage.

We are on a different sailing than you but we also have a late flight out of IAH. We are renting a car from Enterprise (through Costco), one way rental, for only $29. Much cheaper than any other option that we have come across.

  4. There is a daily limit of two or three cards. It seems to vary depending on who you talk to. But you can go on the next day if you need more.

I have also gotten them for points on my discover card and used only about $50 worth of points (based on other rewards you can get) on a $100 card.

    Thank you!

  5. Nope. I pay for my cruises by purchasing gift cards (all-state or aarp). I use my carnival card and I don't get the double points but I think saving 10% makes up for that.

I just signed up for AARP to buy the discounted GC. Do you know if they put a limit as to how many you can purchase? I am currently at 15,000 points so could I buy $1,500 worth of cards?

  6. It's really convenient. I save up a little bit, buy the e-card, and email her the numbers. She emails me back an invoice showing the new total due. I've saved $470 using these gift cards on my Hawaii cruise so far. I was able to buy $400 worth of them with credit card points. I had no idea my credit card rewards offered the Carnival gift cards. Now that I know, I'm buying one as soon as I earn enough points.

I have a airline mileage credit card that gives me 7 points for every dollar spent on a cruise if I use the airline's cruise travel agency. I thought I had to use that card to get the full 7 points, but I don't. I need only have the card, keep it active (aka pay the annual fee), and book through their agency to get the points. I've earned 3 round-trip domestic tickets for both my husband and I in the past 5 years. I have enough points for a 4th flight, but we don't have anywhere to go!

Wow! That is awesome. Thanks for the advise. I will have to call my credit card company in the morning. I usually use my debit card for everything but if this is something that my CC offers I may have to start using.

We are going to Hawaii in April and have not yet purchased our airline tickets. This may be a good time to do so if they offer the rewards!

  7. Cruise cash can be used for anything. Bar cruise cash can be applied ONLY to bar purchases. All cruise cash is also a 'use it or lose it' thing too. I wouldn't purchase more than you think you will use. I haven't been able to figure out why anyone would purchase bar cruise cash or photo cruise cash since both are limited. It makes more sense to purchase just cruise cash since it doesn't have restrictions on what you can buy with it. It can also be applied to the gratuities if they aren't prepaid.

So I could purchase $500 in cruise cash and also $200 in Cruise Bar cash? Or is it $500 total between all of them? Cruise isn't until September so kinda using it as a way to save extra $ for spending while onboard.
