  1. Thanks for the info...I looked up our cruise and a regular wheelchair is 85 for the week..a motorized scooter 185...that's not bad at all. She may get a kick out of the motorized scooter.

Unless she is completely bedridden, she is going on this cruise...she is 77 now and you never know what could happen in the future.

We do have trip insurance luckily, so we are not worried about losing any money on the cost of the trip.

My dad broke his ankle and had to have surgery a couple years ago when he was 73. sounds like a similar break to your mom's. After surgery he was in the hospital for a few days and then they sent him to a rehabilation/ nursing facility for i believe it was around a month. He was in a lot of pain for most of the time. When he came home I know he was still in some pain and probably would not want to go on a cruise. Hopefully, your mom will heal faster than my dad did.

  2. Same thing happened to us last year. Tried to explain to the carnival rep that we are platinum and he insisted we had to wait in the line with everybody else. I showed two other reps my boarding pass that clearly states that we are platinum but to no avail. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes I finally got another Carnival rep to listen and he agreed we didn't have to wait. He asked me to show him the guy that made us wait and I was happy to do so. He apologized and said he didn't know. Talk about lack of training.

  3. Times certainly have changed. About 10 years ago when we first started cruising, the airline lost our luggage-not Carnival. Being newbies to cruising- all of our clothes were in our checked bags that were lost- none in our carry-ons. So we had no clothes except what we were wearing. Carnival gave both me and my girlfriend vouchers for funshop to buy clothes for $75.00 each. The next day was a sea day so no port to buy additional clothes. That $150.00 they gave us really made me sing the praises of Carnival. The Carnival Rep was trying to help get our bags to us from the airline on embarkation day so I think he really cared and went well beyond our expectations. In the end the airline finally got our luggage to us on the last port day. Needless to say we got vouchers from airlines for free future flights.

  4. I don't see how a cruise terminal selection could be anything but random.

They have no idea who you are when you are passing through the building.

Well, we've been "randomly" selected 3 times after cruises. They've gone completely thru our suitcases every time, going thru every piece of clothing. My girlfriend is significantly younger than me and she's black and I'm white. It doesn't seem random to us at all. Out of the 5 cruises we've been on together we were selected 3 times. We actually expect it now. It usually holds us up for at least a half hour. Its happened after 2 celebrity cruises and a carnival cruise.

  5. I'm sure you're exaggerating when you say they work for six months without a single day off! I don't think that's legal even at sea.

I have worked as a musician on cruise ships and its true- Waiters,,bartenders, room stewards don't get any days off. They may get a few hours off but they get no days off, so if they do a good job-tip them .They are the hardest working people you'll ever meet .Being a musician on the ship I had plenty of free time- we only played at night. I would often feel guilty getting off the ship at most ports while they had to stay on and work their 12 hour shift.

  6. The bartenders must be given some commission or reward for upgrading people to higher alcohol packages. It was really the only negative experience we had on equinox earlier this month. They hounded us the first day to upgrade and they really wouldn't take no for an answer. Felt like we were in a used car salesroom the whole first day.

  7. Most of the printing came off my card and they refused to honor it, so I went down to guest services and they printed a new card and put clear tape over the printing. It was good for the rest of the cruise. They said sunscreen destroys the print on the card

  8. We were there last week. Had been there about 4 years ago when air traffic was heavy-lots of planes. Was there about 2 hours this time and only saw a few planes. On the way there it only cost us 3 dollars each-it was a minivan but I guess it was public transportation. On the way back to the ship it cost $20 because we took a private taxi.

  9. That's Carnival's pitch. The ship will wait for their excursions. I don't believe many of the independents will pay your costs to get to next port. We've been on many cruises so we rarely do excursions any longer but we did our share of independent excursion companies and never had a problem
