  1. It's just that the typical Princess cruiser isn't a foodie.

This is my observation as well, what with all of the unusual, often petty complaints about food that we see on these boards. It just always seems like it comes from people that are rather picky, and thus don't just love food enough to enjoy what's placed infront of them.

  2. Beware, non of the mini suites on deck 9 have any privacy. All the balcony staterooms on deck 10 and above can look directly down on the deck 9 mini suites. That's one reason we always select deck 8 aft mini suites. They are covered providing privacy, shade, and if raining some protection. Also you don't get any noise from deck 8 Vista lounge.

What are you doing on your balcony that requires you have utmost privacy? ;p;p;p:P

  3. Under these circumstances what exactly would be the difference between Club Class Dining and Anytime Dining, if you sit in the same MDR? Are you simply paying a higher cruise fare or do you get another benefit? If so what is it?

    Regards John

There are other benefits, but speaking specifically about the MDR, you get "no wait" anytime dining and an extended, supposedly "fancier" menu. I've never found that to be of any value, and the other perks aren't something you can really put a hard pricetag on. In short, it's not really worth what you're going to pay for it, no matter how much people try to convince themselves that it is.

  4. We recently booked a Scandinavian cruise for next april, and were told by the Princess agent that travel insurance was not available for Quebec residents because of all the particularities with permiting and licensing to sell insurance in Quebec.Working in insurance myself (not travel insurance), I know that our legislation can be a headache and that many companies simply do not want to bother handling that.

However, the insurance was available for purchase back when we booked our November 2017 cruise. So this seems to be a relatively new thing.

  5. Still can't figure out the difference between Horizon and Cafe Caribe except that they are sometimes open together and sometimes one is closed. ?? don't really see or know of a difference.

Café Caribe is often asian-themed, as in americanized chinese buffet.

  6. But having sewage flooding our cabin WOULD have ruined our cruise as it is totally unacceptable not to move you. I could not have 'adjusted' nor should Princess have expected you to. Raw sewage is absolutely disgusting and even with cleaning and sanitising who wants to sleep in an airless room with the remnants of that in the carpets? There are always cabins available, even if it is staff/entertainer cabins. They should have done something.

It's not raw sewage. It's toilet backup. There's a difference.

  7. I contacted my assigned Princess rep.

She said that if you are upfront about it whilst boarding (at security) they will hold on to it for you. What they do not want, and what they will throw away without appeal, is anything you try to smuggle in.

  8. See if you can store it at the port of embarkation and pick it up upon disembarkation. maybe your hotel will hold it. worse case store it at the airport in a locker.

That's just way too many logistics. I think I'll live without the beer. :P

  9. Okay, folks. I appreciate all of your responses, but this isn't a question about what official policy is. I've read the passage contract, I know what it says. I'm asking for people who've had an actual experience doing this to chime in, because I remember reading about it in the past on here but I don't recall what the outcome was, and can't seem to find the post.

  10. LOL :D

I just went through that same thing with a dealer after we agreed on a price with the salesman.

There must be a lot of profit in scaring the public....after all why would people want to be standing in long lines to eat dinner. ;);)

That being said, I've never had long waits (longest was 20 minutes). I'd much rather spend the cash I saved not purchasing Club Class on a nice glass of wine at Vines while waiting for a table to free up.

  11. The Passage Contract treats the embarkation port differently than ports of call. If they follow the Passage Contract, your beer will be confiscated and discarded. With everything else going on at Embarkation, staff really doesn’t have time to check in alcohol for storage. You might try calling Princess but you probably can’t rely on their answer.

I would find it unlikely that they just discard the items.

As it has been asked in the past there will hopefully be some folks reading here who remember the threads and the answers given. Have you tried calling Princess directly? If you do call and don't like the answer you get try calling again in half an hour and you may well get someone else who is more knowledgeable. I've had it happen. Of course you could always ship the beer via another carrier prior to sailing but I understand that isn't what you are hoping to do.

It's illegal to ship alcohol into the country (I'm from Canada), so shipping it in wouldn't be a possibility. I haven't tried calling Princess yet, was just wondering if anyone had any prior experience as this doesn't seem like it would be an uncommon thing in cruises departing from Italy, as an example.

  12. I would just like to reiterate that I'm not talking about bottles bought in ports of call, but bottles purchased during our prior vacation and brought onboard on embarkation day with no intention of consuming them when brought onboard. I thank you for your replies but it seems like they concern alcohol purchased in ports of call.

  13. Hi everyone.

My wife and I will be vacationing in Belgium prior to our April 2019 Scandinavian cruise. I plan on purchasing the equivalent of a case of beer while there, filling up at the various breweries that are more difficult to source back home.

Does anyone have any experience with Princess holding on to a case of beer and/or wine for the duration of the cruise? In theory, they will hold on to alcohol you purchase in port but I've never made them hold on to something I brought on day 1.

I imagine this situation is common on Mediterranean cruises, so I'm hoping to source some first hand experience from you folks and not just theory.

    Thanks for the insight!

  14. Not all balconies are actually accessible, even though the cabin may be. As another person mentionned, a note will pop up during reservation telling you that the balcony itself is not accessible (so it's important to pay attention and read everything).

If you went through a TA, I would contact him/her.

  15. Not to sound harsh, but I'm unsure as to how not going on your cruise will do anything to help with your sister's diagnosis. I understand that she may want to be by her bedside, but for the moment there doesn't appear to be anything that indicates that her situation will deteriorate in such a short amount of time. That being said, if I were your mother I would still go on the trip and interrupt if necessary. That way, my decision to not go would not be a financial burden to the person going with me.
