  1. The group MO5AIC performed on our Jewel of the Seas cruise this past week and they were awesome! They just announced this evening that the group will be staying on the ship for a few days to perform for the next cruise (departing tomorrow 3/4/18). You're in for a treat if you are on the upcoming cruise. Be sure to catch their show!

For anyone not familiar with MO5AIC, they are a 5 man vocal group that performs without any instruments but you will swear there are instruments. Very impressive!

  2. Absolutely a taxi....they're regulated by zone...no need to be worried about getting ripped-off...they'll give you a written fee chart as you get in clearly stating all fee's charged. Just get in the taxi line just outside luggage pickup and tell them which pier you're going to depending on the cruiseline you're using...so the Old Town Pier or the Pan American Pier. Easy peasey !!

Thanks for the response! I didn't know there is more than one pier :) We're newbies. Our ship is to be at the Pan American Pier. Thanks again.

  3. We are planning to visit a couple of quiet beaches during our JOS cruise next week. There won't be food available at one of the beaches. So can we order a "boxed" lunch from the ship to take with us when we leave the ship? If not, what do most people do if their excursion does not include food?

    Thanks in advance :)

  4. Laura - thanks for the detailed review. This is very helpful as we are taking our first cruise in a couple of weeks.

Do you have any recommendations for Antigua? We want to make Antigua a beach day and would be interested in your thoughts of where to go, how to get there and what we would find at your recommended beach.

    Thanks again!!

  5. My wife and I have been thinking about buying a CamAm Spyder, which if you don't know is a 3 wheel motorcycle, but the 2 wheels are up front. After Aruba trikes last year she is onboard with the idea. Anyway, SXMSyperrentals just came online this week, so we are going to walk to their shop on the road between the pier and downtown, rent a bike and drive ourselves to Orient for the day.

We spent a week in SXM in 2016 and rented a Spyder for one of the days. We had a blast. We highly recommend her service. The Spyders were is good shape and we had no problems!

We have owned a Spyder since 2012 so we were familiar with how they ride.

    Be safe :)

  6. Yes, and if I may, if you purchase a soda or drink package and bundle it with the Voom package it’s a whole lot cheaper than purchasing it on the boat or buying it by itself... Have a good one.....

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't seen a Voom package with the refreshment package. Can Voom be combined with the refreshment package?

  7. Bottled water in included in the Refreshment and Deluxe unlimited beverage packages. The brand varies, but is not Evian. If you want Evian, you can purchase a bottled water package, but that package is a specific number of bottles, not unlimited.

    Got it, Thanks!

  8. If you do decide to purchase the Refreshment package at $26 per day, keep watchng your Cruise Planner, because if the price goes down, you can cancel and re-order the package.

Bob - do we have to pay for the refreshment package and then cancel for a refund if the price drops? Thanks.

  9. Those of us who are anti-ship water are that way because we find that there is something wrong with the ship water. We don’t have problems with it just for fun. The fact that you don’t is not relevant to us. The fact that we do is not relevant to you. :)

Evian (not in the beverage packages unless you get the water package), Poland springs, and the other spring water company whose bottles of water I’ve seen on the ship (the latter two are in the packages)...those are not the companies who use filtered municipal water. Those are companies who use spring water. Those aren’t the lousy tasting ones like Dasani and Aquafina.

Mollyeilis - are you saying that bottled water is included in the beverage packages? And if I want Evian then I need the bottled water package?

  10. I would suggest not buying at $26, and wait until you get on the ship, and then you can decide. If it is $18, then it might make sense. I really like having disposable bottles of water to take to ports, slowing getting rid of weight and bulk throughout the day, that my wife can then refill with trinkets for me to carry. I also like drinking coffee, but need specialty ones because can't stand regular coffee.

    Great minds think alike :)

  11. Usually the refreshment package goes for about $26.00 per day plus 18% gratuity. How much is it on your cruise that it comes out to over $500.00 for two people? Often times the package goes on sale for about $18.00 per person plus 18% gratuity. I have bought the package at that price before and broken even but I would never do it at the $26.00 price. How many overly sweet specialty coffees (around 4-5 dollars a drink) and non-alcoholic drinks (again 4-5 dollars a drink), or sodas (around $2.80 per can) can you go through in a day?

Most cruises I get no package and manage just fine with what is available at no extra cost. I love drinking water. Iced water can be found at many locations around the ship.

Thanks Ocean Boy - I added the gratuity to the total in my cart but now realize that the gratuity is included in the price in my cart. We're still at $429 for the package.

  12. Hi, this is our first cruise. We are on the JOTS leaving Feb 25th. Looking at the beverage package options and trying to determine if a package makes sense for us. We don't normally drink any alcohol so the deluxe package would not make sense for us. The refreshment package sounds like it would work for us but is over $500 for the two of us. Would we really drink $500 worth of beverages during a 7 day cruise? We like specialty coffees, ice tea, and water. Thinking we would drink a considerable amount of bottled water if we could take the water with us at the port. We would not drink any soda.

Your thoughts? What do most people that do not drink alcohol do about beverages?

    Thanks in advance.
