I almost always wear a jacket to dinner. This is my choice. However, you also have the choice. Wear what you like, you are on vacation. Have fun, relax, and don't worry about the "old fogies" we're there to relax and not judge.

Now that is good advice!   Thank you!

A lot of ships no longer have formal night. It’s been changed to a dress your best type of night. You will see all kinds of dress in MDR. I agree with sticking with long pants.

Oh I see.  That's kind of a shame.  I think many people enjoy the formal night.  Thank you for your input.

The dress code is greatly relaxed. I have seen shorts and tee shirts on formal night.

I would stay with the long pants tho.

Me and hubby enjoy dressing up. To each their own

I enjoy dressing up but my hubby does not.  :(     And it's good to know that I can at least try and meet him 1/2 way with it.  Thank you!

  4. For casual tropical night dress my husband has a t-shirt that has palm trees etc on it.  Is a tee shirt permitted in the dining room as long as he has long pants on?   and what about gym shoes?     The other thing I'm wondering about is when it's 'formal' night, you can't eat in the dining room unless you have on a suit or tux, correct?   Thanks for any clarification.

  5. You do NOT want to get there that early. 11am is the "sweet spot"....all departing passengers are gone, and boarding will start or has...so no lines!

so we received an email suggesting we board at 1:30 per our cabin assignment per floor. Is this strictly adhered to? we really don't have anything to occupy us for a few hours while waiting on 1:30 to arrive. Other than aimless shopping at some mall, but we are hoping it's just a guideline and would rather board earlier. does anyone have any insight into this?

  6. Basically you can text two ways:

    1) Buy the ship's VOOM package, use WiFi calling or an internet messaging app (iMessage, Whatsapp, etc.) for unlimited texting. Phone in Airplane mode for this option.

    2) Don't buy the ship's VOOM package, phone NOT in Airplane Mode. Pay your cell carrier $0.50 per sent text and if Verizon an additional $0.05 per received text.

One other thing, if you are on Harmony or a Quantum class ship, you may be able to use iMessage texting for free due to a hole in the firewall programming.

Your help has been invaluable. We will be on Brilliance of the Seas sailing this Saturday, 2/17th. we are very excited!

  7. If you want to pay by the text, then you turn Airplane Mode off so you can connect to the ship's cell tower. AT&T and Verizon charge $0.50 per text sent, and Verizon charges an additional $0.05 per text received. If you have a different cell carrier, contact them and ask about texting charges on a cruise ship while at sea.

Ok. I think I got it. It's so nice of you to answer so many people's questions. (I've seen you answer too many to count as I've navigated these boards soaking up valuable information!) I had asked this off someone else's post in this thread, and I hate to be redundant but I'm still learning how to do all of this messaging stuff so I will repeat the question. ( and one thing I've learned was to keep reading before jumping on and repeating questions but that's too late to fix this blunder) So since you were kind enough to answer this far, can you tell me if we have to buy that Voom package to even be able to get onto the ships wifi in order to text?

  8. Texting with verizon and the ship's wifi is only free if you use the messages + app for texting.

Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app

When you sayd Messages + app, what app are you referring to? This is all very confusing to me. I just hope we can text with the people we are cruising with so that we can figure out where and when to meet them etc. Does anyone know that if I keep my phone on airplane mode and text other iphone users, will it only cost us 50 cents a text and 5 cents to receive? I wouldn't mind paying as you go if that is all it costs. thanks for any insight!

  9. We are sailing on the Freedom in two weeks and I am considering getting the refreshment pkg for my three teens. Price is $18 a day plus 18% so $21 a day.

For three kids over 8 days it is $504. Not sure if they will actually drink that much so I keep going back and forth.

Do they ever sell a discounted pkg onboard for non alcoholic drinks.

    Thanks!

we are sailing in 12 days and for the last 6 weeks they've been emailing offers from like 20 to 30% off packages. Look for email offers.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but does anyone know if they have decaffeinated diet coke? It's rare to find it, but I'm hoping they do. Thanks for any info.

  11. We would never think of having them booking their excursions or spending all their time with us, but we LOVE hearing about what they've done that day over dinner. He's been cruising since he was 4 and still loves the family cruise vacations, appreciates the hard work of the crew, tips, and keeps his cabin far neater than his apartment. When he graduated college and got his job, we said we understood if he didn't want to plan to continue cruising with us and he asked why we would think he wouldn't want to continue going on the family cruises. He now pays his own way, which is nice too.

Wow! That is a win/win! you get to enjoy him for parts of it and he pays his own way too. Love it!
