Nothing to do there. We took a taxi and went to Isla Negra, which is a beautiful place where a very famous chilean poet used to live. Breathtaking views. Besides that, NOTHING else. A very boring place.

If you arrive the day of the cruise, they have shuttles from the bus station to the port. there are taxis too.

Just to clarify something the other poster wrote. The Alvear Palace Hotel is not the same as the Alvear Art Hotel, which I do not know anything about. The Alvear Palace Hotel is an elegant, traditional hotel in the Recoleta District. Not cheap.

Hope this helps before you book it thinking it is the same as the Alvear Palace.
