I do recognize that which is why I qualified my statement.  I just also recall reading that exact language at some point before yesterday which is why I was questioning how new it was and whether it related to this change in policy for vaping.

For those that are on now, is there a separate section of the casino that is clearly marked as no vaping?  Or do they allow vaping in the entire casino?  The policy linked talks about signage indicating "the areas for both smoking and non-smoking guests"

Also, is this just the Equinox?  Or are people seeing it on other ships?

We were aboard the Reflection back in March.A couple sitting in front of us were openly vaping in the Theater during a show. No one said anything to them including the bar servers that were serving them. I moved since it made me uncomfortable and I saw others move as well. I reported it to the Captains Club hostess and guest services   the next day and I specifically addressed it on my post cruise survey . Of course now I understand why  I was  completely ignored.

  2. I truly understand the Cuban gentleman’s nostalgia to see his country so near and yet so far away. 62 years ago at the age of 12 my parents made the ultimate sacrifice to put me alone in a plane to Miami to save me from communism .  We started cruising in 1972 and have cruised past the Cuban coast multiple times it always fills me with sadness and nostalgia to see what my beautiful and once prosperous country has become even though all my family was able to leave in the early 60s. Thanks for posting. By the way we saw you last week sitting outside of Murano as we were going in you both looked wonderful. Thanks for, sharing your posts with us.

    Good Morning from Ocho Rios!

Yesterday afternoon we went out to watch the sun set. People gathered on deck 5 balcony with cameras.

As I walked out on the balcony the sun was setting over Cuba.

A gentleman turned to me and said we should stop for a mojito. He was from Cuba and as his picture was being taken with Cuba behind him he said “ I’ve been waiting 6 weeks to have this picture taken”.
He reminded me of a friends father who came to the U S when Castro took control. He became very successful by owning many radio stations.
36 years ago he invited Barbie and me on a cruise with the family. It was our first cruise ever and that’s where we caught the cruising bug. We passed Cuba on that cruise and he too looked at the island in a desire to be able to go back. His sister still lived there.

Later it was up to The Lawn Club Grill.

Then off to the show which turned out to be very good. The Magic and comedy was really good.

This lady walked in late and he asked what drink she had. A Mojito she replied, He took it and drank the whole thing.

Update- The mechanical team worked on the creaking and amazingly it seems like it is gone. I’m impressed, it was so loud and constant. They were going to give us another room to sleep in if they couldn’t fix it.

On Beyond now in a Concierge Cabin on deck 10 no noise or creaking whatsoever thank God. We have had other issues but no creaking……

As a survivor of Hurricane Andrew when  our house was destroyed We are heartbroken for our neighbors in the West Coast.  We have already made donations to the Red Cross and urge everyone that can help to,do,so. The devastation in some areas is immense and it will take a long time to rebuild. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them.

  6. We just got off the Infinity last Saturday.  We did not witness any segregation of passengers in the dining room, theater, casino or anywhere else for that matter.  We had no idea who was or was not vaccinated on the ship. Because I’m immune compromised my husband and I apart from maybe 2 or 3 waiters were the only ones wearing masks onboard.  We asked to be seated apart from others in the dining room but most tables were very close to each other and we saw different people sharing large tables.  At least on the Infinity that is not happening.

No it's not like a cold. Did you read my post? I said I have not been this sick for over 30 years! It's like a very very bad flu. Plus 20% of covid patients will get long covid. Is that worth gambling your life with to have momentary fun? BTW double boosted & no serious health problems. When & if covid case counts decrease, we would consider a cruise but not in the near future.

I agree with you for some people, vaxed and boosted it’s just a bad cold (like me) for others like my husband its being  extremely sick in the hospital for 4 days having to receive Remdesivir IV treatments and still suffering from Long Covid a Month later. To make general assumptions that its “just a cold” for everyone is not right. We were very lucky we had tested PCR negative on April 7, 2 days before boarding Apex on April 9. Next day my husband woke up totally disoriented and could hardly walk. We took him to ÉR thinking he was having a stroke . to our amazement he tested positive for Covid and his blood oxygen was extremely low so he was admitted for 4 days.and continued to be sick at home for 2 weeks . I immediately cancelled the cruise for the next day. On Saturday I woke up with a headache and sore throat went to Urgent Care where Rapids for Covid and flu were negative next day my PCR was, positive. I just had bad cold symptoms for a few days.  I shudder to think what it would have been like if all this had happened onboard a couple of days later.

  8. Respectfully Disagree about not testing etc. We were supposed to leave today on the Apex.  Had PCR tests on Thursday came back negative. Yesterday my 79 yr old (otherwise healthy) husband  vaccinated and boosted woke up with a cold brain fog and extreme tiredness went to ER tested positive and is presently in the hospital in patient receiving Covid treatment and oxygen. I tested negative with a home rapid test but I’m beginning to feel symptoms.  Although disappointed about cancelling cruise we are thankful this didn’t happen onboard.  Hoping everyone stays safe.

Paul, the next time you cruise to San Juan try and get the cruise that departs at 11pm.

My favorite restaurant is there. Marmalade and well worth the expense. We just did that on November 4th Apex cruise. Enjoying following a long !

Excellent advice. We always go to Marmalade whenever we are in San Juan! Looking forward to go back next month when we will be there on the Apex.

  10. Latest update on your cruisemates from Miami. The husband who was intubated for so many weeks and on dialysis for kidney failure was  given the plasma transfusion and as they were trying to wean him  off respirator slowly he pulled out his tube and miraculously began breathing on his own!!  And his kidney function is almost normal! He is now out of intensive care in a regular room and on his way hopefully on his way to a full recovery. His wife has tested negative after 14 days and is preparing to donate plasma . Sister in law was just released from hospital and she and her husband are recuperating at home. Family is eternally grateful for the multitude of prayers and the generous plasma Donor.

  11. Latest update on our acquaintances that were on this sailing. One of them   remains on a ventilator and slowly being weaned after receiving plasma.Hiswife has been  released from the hospital. The other two have had to.  Be hospitalized but are doingfairly well. They are thankful for the outpouring of volunteers who donated their plasma even though most weren’t a match. The Family  continues to ask for plasma donation for others and we continue to have zoom prayer meetimgs for them . Please continue to have them and all others affected in your thoughts and prayers.Thank you.

  12. For your info our acquaintance has taken a turn for the worse. He is now in renal failure and has started dyalisis. Despite the outpouring of volunteers for plasma no one has matched. A donor is coming tomorrow from Jacksonville and they are hoping for the best. His wife has been discharged from the hospital and is alone at home in stable condition.  The other two remain fairly well recuperating at home . Please keep them and all others infected in your thoughts and prayers.

  13. As I stated before 4 of our acquaintances who were on the ship have tested positive. One of them is critical in the hospital intubated and unfortunately the anti malaria drug has not worked. Yesterday the family did a massive appeal for a plasma donor recovered from Covid19 and with his blood type. This morning they said 3 persons had volunteered and were waiting to see if they matched. Please have him in your prayers. His wife was admitted today but she is not doing that bad and the other 2 so far are recuperating at home.  Hoping and praying that all of you that have been infected will recover promptly. Stay safe.

I've been following this a little bit and I have been very vocal about fair weather ports who are happy to collect the port fees and host passengers pre and post cruise, sell them food, rent them cars, etc. etc. etc. Then when there is a problem and people are in danger, nobody wants them. It seems to me that Captain Leo did everything he could to get his passengers home safe. Remember the Diamond Princess stuck alongside sitting while more and more people were infected. Let's not forget the Zaandam and that ordeal. As Eclipse was doing their very best to make sure everyone was comfortable while trying to get them home safe, others on other ships were locked in their cabins and still got sick. I have only been able to find one 2 paragraph story from a local San Diego news source alleging that passengers from Eclipse have spread the virus from Finland to Florida without offering any proof.

So if I was a passenger on Eclipse for this voyage I would thank Captain Leo for getting me home safe. Rest assured Captain Leo knew it may end his career, but he did the right thing to get his ship, crew and passengers home safe from the sea.

I know for a fact 4 of our acquaintances who were on the Eclipse who have tested positive and one of them critical in the hospital. They got tested at the advice of Celebrity upon their arrival in Miami. Personally I think it’s extremely sad. Do not want to start any arguments I respect everyone’s opinion. In addition we were on the Infinity in January and March and became very fond of several crew members. Our hearts are broken to see that a crew member has died and the rest are quarantined on the ship. Thinking and praying for them constantly.

  15. Check your cruise planner!! We are on the  October 22 2020 sailing. I checked our cruise planner now and see that the cabin we booked onboard over a year ago has been changed  to Guaranty  veranda !! I just spoke to a rep who told me all cabin assignments are being  reviewed because of the refurbishment as some cabins will change from 4 to 2 people etc and that cabins should be reassigned in a week or two and other changes of the ship may take longer.....

  16. I was just told by Celebrity that the TA will leave from Venice to Tampa on November 9.....and more details will be available next week.

I hope so since we are on the October 22 sailing and would love to stay for the TA. However I called my rep at Celebrity this evening and he told me it would be leaving from Venice on November 9 and he would have more info next week. I hope he’s wrong.....

We've sailed Equinox many times as she's based in Florida year round.  We like her even more now that she sails out of Ft. Lauderdale versus Miami.  We drive to Florida and Ft. Lauderdale is as far south as I feel safe...  Anyway, I was interested to see what had changed in the "revolution" as we sailed her last voyage before she headed off to Cadiz.

We had done the check-in on the Celebrity app.  My recollection is that I took photos of our passports and us.  I received Express Passes on the app that stated "Expedited Boarding."  From reading reviews from people who had sailed on the first cruises in June post-revolution it sounded like you now went to your cabins upon embarkation to pick up your Sea Pass cards and drop off your hand luggage.  This was before the rooms are ready announcement would be made.  That was what I expected.

First we parked at Park 'N' Go and promptly were taken to Terminal 25 to board.  This was around 11 am.  We walked right through Security; there were no lines at this time.  My husband got wanded due to his belt buckle (a normal LL Bean one, not a Texas sized one...)  He says the metal sensitivity can vary from machine to machine to day to day.  Then we went up an escalator to another room.  There were three long lines of people queing up.  We happened to get in the far right line.  I just happened to see out of the corner of my eye, through gaps in the two lines to my left, a waist high sign that read "Expedited Boarding."  So we cut through the other two lines to a roped area where there was a terminal employee holding up a placard that also said "Expedited Boarding."  This "sign" was a 5" x 7" card!!  They need to have employees at the top of the escalator asking if you checked in on the app or if you have expedited boarding!  Perhaps they will in the future.  Keep in mind I am only talking about the Equinox, only at Terminal 25 and only on the day I boarded.

Another employee scanned my bar codes on my phone with her Ipad.  She took another picture of both of us.  Perhaps even though I had taken photos they want the most current way you look on the day you board....or our original photos were too ghastly...  She told us that our CALL (Classic Beverage Package) sign was on our electronic Sea Pass and that we could charge drinks using the phone.  She said our cards were outside our room and we could collect them when the rooms are ready announcement was made.  I know others have reported not being able to use the electronic Sea Pass card but apparently that has changed.

So we did not go drop off our hand luggage as I thought she was discouraging us from doing that.  I don't like to be the person that pushes open the closed corridor door because I'm special....  Later I thought about it and realized other people must have been told to go pick up their cards outside their cabins because if you had not received your Sea Pass via the app you would be unable to charge a drink without the physical card.  So next time we might go drop off the hand luggage even though we have the electronic card...

So it was now time to head to the Sunset Bar.  My husband did not have the app on his phone so he took mine with both our passes to the bar.  He said the first bartender was confused as to how to use it instead of a card to swipe.  So it is a learning curve.  It really wouldn't have mattered if my husband did have the app on his phone because in that case he would have had to take both phones to the bar.

After our drinks we heard the rooms are ready announcement shortly after 1 pm.  We went to our AQ cabin, 1561, and left our hand luggage and put stuff in the safe.  We went back to the Oceanview and it was a zoo.  Could not find a table and we walked the full circuit twice.  Remember we sail Equinox often, in all months, and we've never had this problem after the rooms are ready announcement is made and clears the place out.  Don't know why that day was different.  So we went to The Mast Grill instead.  Took our plates into the Solarium and ate at tables at the Spa Cafe which for whatever reason was not open for lunch on embarkation day.  I thought at first it was closed as it was now 2 pm but when I checked the embarkation daily it was not listed as open.  Only Oceanview, Mast Grill and Sushi on 5 were open for lunch that day.  (Of course, the MDR if you were in a Concierge Cabin or Luminae if in a suite.)

Other than those differences on embarkation day I'll just say our cabin had been redone.  We liked the smaller coffee table and between that and the geometric print of the carpet I'd swear the cabin was larger.  I know it was not because the vanity desk and the sofa are the same size but it sure does feel roomier!  Also the balcony felt much larger due to the tiny table replacing the full size one and no footstools.  We don't order room service so the smaller tables didn't affect us negatively.

About AQ I'll only say that the reason I chose it for this sailing was to have a break from the MDR.  And because I avoid the sun but love to spend hours on my balcony I'm the odd duck that loves the cabins with the deep overhang.  I could stay there all day long whether in port or sailing.  We don't get up early enough to have breakfast in Blu (closes at 8:30 or 9 am) so we only ate dinner there.  Food is subjective so I'm not going to touch on that.  I priced AQ for our next cruise and it's $500 more total than a regular balcony for a seven night cruise.  Well, actually, it's a Concierge Class balcony as that GTY was cheaper than a 2B cabin.  I don't do veranda GTY on S Class because I don't want to wind up with a 2D or 2C.  $500 more when we only utilize Blu for dinner and don't use Persian Gardens doesn't make sense to me.

Changes I noticed were new wicker/hemp chairs at Sunset and smaller cocktail tables.  No more full size tables there.  There are some semi-circular sofa style seats at Sunset along the sides.  There is less seating by the bar area.  This makes it look larger and airier....but of course it also means less seating.  There are no longer tables by the railing across from the bar.  That's a plus as it sometimes made it tight to walk through there.  The Oceanview looks exactly the same to me.  One thing I've never experienced on Equinox was the Oceanview had delicious fried calamari every day for lunch!!  (Well, I can't vouch for the first day.)  On day 2 when we saw it we started to joke about surely it wouldn't be there the next day but it was every single day.  And it was fried perfectly.  I am going through calamari withdrawal.

The Passport Bar does have different seating and less of it.  I did actually see people sitting at the benches around the large table that used to be in Team Earth.  The carpet is a lovely cream background with pale splotches of color.  The whole Passport Bar does look beautiful in its refurb.  I must say that although I could tell there was less seating at Sunset and Passport it did not look crowded other than when a show or something was going on in the Foyer.  And it was always crowded at such times before.  Martini Bar looks the same as does Cafe al Bacio.  Only ate once in the MDR and I guess I'd say the chairs had been reupholstered as I saw no signs of wear on any of them.

The casino removed some of the machines closest to the bar and put in four tables that seat four.  I suppose to watch the sports on the TVs?

Departure was incredibly fast.  We choose to do the first group after self-debark and Luggage Valet.  We were called at 7:50 am.  We walked off...no lines...until you got to Captain Kate shaking hands and saying goodbye and thanks to people on the gangway.  Joking....no lines although she was there.  We walked down the escalator in the terminal and right up to the facial recognition machines.  There were five or so machines and no lines at all.  Then we walked into the room where the luggage was neatly lined up.  Collected our bags and walked right off.  Unbelievably fast!!

Oh, also, I filled out the How Are We Doing card on Day 3 and a very nice staff member came to our cabin the next day to discuss what I'd commented on.  I was impressed!  (I wouldn't have wanted to have that job!)  I had praised our steward, Francisco.  I had said I missed the complete itinerary being listed on the front page of the embarkation daily with the port hours, time changes and Evening Chic nights listed.  He nicely showed me it's still there....albeit on the second page.  I don't know how I missed that but I blame the beverage package....  I also said I missed having the sunrise and sunset times on the program.  He explained they seemed to want you to get that information on the app or TV.  OK, guess I'll have to relinquish my paper attraction...(in my defense I grow pine trees...)  I also commented that on Day 2, the first Captain's Club Happy Hour in the Sky Lounge, a nicely dressed woman wearing a Celebrity name tag stopped to talk to the couple at a table in front of us....and then us.  I assumed she was one of the hosts.  Turns out she was a Spa employee and trolling for business.  I mentioned I thought that was inappropriate.  His response to that was the issue was "being addressed."

If anyone has any questions please ask.  Sorry to be so long winded!

Oh I presume you don’t get off the ship in Key West and God forbid in any of the Mexican ports as that would REALLY be scary!  Way down South......

As far South as you feel safe??????? Wow! Incredible. That’s as far as I got. Not interested in what somewhat like you has to say....
