  1. Well we managed to make it to the ship in Antigua. It was not easy, after making it to Tampa, the next morning we flew to Miami. That evening and early morning Miami had quite a rainstorm, forcing the plane to be put into a holding pattern on its approach to the airport. While looking at the connection time for the next flight it was clear we were going to be late. Good part is that the flight I had booked was with same airline to Antigua and the Miami was just a plane change, in which the departure gate was next to the arrival gate. The great people at American Airlines were waiting for us and rushed us to the flight bound for Antigua. When we arrived in Antigua we rushed up to the outside taxi counter and explained that we had to get to the Norwegian Dawn. They understood that we needed to check in to board the ship, and assigned us a great driver. On arrival to the port she pointed out which way that we needed to go. A Norwegian representative was waiting at the pier for us with a clipboard with two pages of names, some staff she told us. We were brought to the Port customs and then brought to the passenger entrance and another Norwegian representative took our passports and escorted us onto the ship for prossing. Upon arrival in Tampa again a Norwegian representative met us at the ship scanner took our passports and escorted us past all the lineups to security and said her goodbyes. The border security was a breeze and we were on land well before the rest of the passengers.

We met several passengers on board who did not make the San Juan sailing, the ship even delayed its departure time. Our Stewart got on board the ship two days late, there were also stories of passengers who upon checking into hotels in San Juan only to find out there was no rooms available, turnes out the hotels were double booking and FEMA was still booked in at many of the hotels.

The only real issue I encountered was checking into the flight to Antigua because it was a one way flight, luckily I happened to get a nice gentleman at the terminal in Orlando. He asked a few questions looked at all my paper work, there was a short discussion about the ship departure date which had passed, then smiled and pushed the keys on the keyboard and we had boarding passes in hand.

  2. Then why were you not in San Juan? The airports in thte northeast were not closed days in advance of the storm

    From where were you flying?

As luck or lack of, our flight was Seattle to Boston to San Juan. Which was delayed In Seattle, delayed then cancelled in Boston. The earliest that airline could do was rebook on 13 Jan. Only available flight was 4.30pm Tampa on the 7 Jan. Ship sailed at 9pm on that day. No flights available for st Thomas. Earliest was Orlando to Miami to Antigua.

Rented a car drove to Orlando now waiting to fly. Its been a long haul.....

  3. Given the circumstances and if as you say the ship knows you are coming, if the flight is on time and you are able to get your luggage and a cab without delay I would think you should be able to make it.

I would think that the cruise line / ship might notify the port agent of your situation and they may be able to help expedite your transfer to the ship after you land. Maybe contact the cruise line to check.

Just curious, what island are you flying into?

You make me feel better.... That's what I'm thinking. I have seen stragglers 30min before departure
