So that there is no confusion to the above comments, my understanding is that port charges, taxes, and service charges are not refunded in full, but are converted to FCC under the peace of mind policy.

You do not have until December 31, 2022 to spend your FCC under peace of mind. In fact, you must spend your FCC within one year of it being issued on a cruise departing up until December 31, 2022. I trust the poster knows this but for the benefit of others, it is helpful to be perfectly clear about terms and conditions.

It is good that this poster can benefit from the 150%. It is a great deal!

Thanks for the clarification.   I was not clear about the time frame to spend the FCC as I was making a point that I could sail by December 2022 so my apologies for the confusion.  I had not read the part about the service charges being a part of the FCC but after reading just now I do see that.  I did not think that would be included as 150% but if so even better.   I appreciate you setting me straight on this.

  2. Sure,  you could suppose a scenario for yourself to justify the refund as opposed to the FCC.  It is a decision with which you must feel comfortable.   In my situation I will be cruising again.  Concerning future rates they could certainly increase as they will anyway but if one is flexible the deals will still be there.

You will always have the port charges to pay.  The FCC credit is for the base cruise fare.  The port charges, taxes and service charges  will be refunded in full.   Our base cruise fare on the March 16 cruise was $2406 total for the two of us.  We will receive $3609.00 as an FCC.  That will be applied to the next cruise we take.  If the next cruise is more we pay the difference.  If less we will have the difference as an FCC until December 31, 2022.  In our case it will all be used by then.  If you feel that NCL will no longer exist when you are ready for your next cruise then you certainly should take your refund now.   I will take my chances that they will be in business and I like my odds.

I agree with you based upon your viewpoint. However, I could present a case where your return is not 50% and, in fact, you could lose 100% of what you paid. It is all how you view it.

Somecritical questions I've been asking myself are....will I be prepared to commit to a cruise within one year or will I be concerned about Covid,  will I be prepared to accept the rates being offered NCL and will they resemble the prices I've historically paid, will NCL allow elme to apply a FCC to the port charges and service charges or am I imited to cruise fare only, and do I believe NCL will exist at the time I end up sailing. If my answer is yes, and all of these align, then yes, I have the potential to recognize 50% return on investment. Problem is, I am not able to answer yes to all of the questions. I'd take a 100% cash refund.

We are currently on a back to back cruise that started in Buenos Aires. The second leg starts in Santiago on 3/14. My parents are with us and are over 70.

Any word what they are going to do about someone over 70 that is already on the ship and could not have known they needed a certification letter back on Feb 29 when we boarded?

The letter from a qualified medical person is required on sailings beginning March 16 according to the NCL rep I talked to.

  5. I can book a balcony on priceline and another website, as of 5 minutes ago. Our bid is still pending. While I'm not "sweating" the upgrade (I'll be happy with the room we booked) the anticipation is killing me LOL I guess that is the "fun" of the bid process. See you in 2 days :)

Just received an email denying our bid for an upgrade. That is ok. Money saved.

  6. Heard anything? Ours is still "Pending". Our TA said the same thing as you though, large group reserved the remaining cabins. You would think that would have automatically expired/canceled the bids...

My TA called on Thursday morning and said they had released 9 balcony rooms. I could have re-booked for one but the price was a good bit higher than my bid so I decided to take a chance and stay with my bid.I talked with him later that afternoon and he said 9 balcony rooms were still available. He could not tell me which ones but did say none had an obstructed view which was good. That is the last time I talked with him and NCL will notify successful bidders up to 48 hours b4 departure so if we are to hear anything it will be today.

  7. Yesterday I could still book every type of cabin on our sailing. Today all show as unavailable on the website we booked through and on NCL.com the sailing isn't even an option. There were tons of cabins yesterday. Balconies alone on one deck, there were 10. Anyone know why they would be "unavailable" 5 days before?

Jenny, if you are referring to the Sky sailing on June 4, I saw the same as you and like you wondered what is going on so I called our NCL agent. He said that a big group booked a number of rooms and now none available. We already have a stateroom but had bid to upgrade so far without success. It looks doubtful the bids we put in will be accepted although he did tell us they could have some rooms set aside for those who bid and just have not been notified as yet. That happens and it takes a little while for the site to be updated although he did not hold out much hope for us. We have an inside porthole on the 8th floor. It will be our first inside stateroom and our last four cruises have been on the Haven and 3 Penthouse suites so it will be interesting to see how we like the inside. Regardless we will be on the ship and will arrive the same time as everyone else at a lower price.
