  1. So, we were on Brilliance of the Seas, returning back to our cabin about 10:30 p.m. We wanted to go outside on the balcony to see the stars. When we unlocked the door and stepped out, we didn't realize that we didn't put the door lever all the way vertical, so when we closed the sliding door, the lever went horizontal, and locked the door from the inside. Uh oh, what to do?

Our friends were in the cabin next door, so my husband took a shoe he had left on the balcony, and threw it at their door. Then, we started making a lot of noise. Some people came out a deck or two down, and we were just asking them if they could call someone to help us get back in. Our friend had heard us as well, and as luck would have it, hubby had a sea card in his pocket. After passing it over the rail to our friend, she let us in.

So, be very careful when leaving your room that the lever is the way it needs to be before shutting the sliding glass door. We figured it could have been a while before we were able to find someone to help, especially if we hadn't be traveling with friends, or it had been later in the evening.

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? - It was small, but pretty sure that was because of the incredible amount of storage space. There was a strong smell of sewage in our bathroom, which our steward did his best to mask, the whole cruise. It was a fully sold

out cruise, so we knew moving was not an option. To Royal's credit, we were contacted and given compensation for this issue.

  3. Twice I have sailed on the last (long) cruise before a major dry dock---one in which there was going to be cabins added, and lots of reconfiguration of the ship.

Neither time was there a problem with that final cruise.

The last time, as I came out of dinner on the last night (about 10:00 PM) I found that they had started emptying the shops, padded the elevators, and started some prep work. That was the first real sign that something was about to happen.

During the cruise there were workmen aboard, but they were almost inconspicuous. Were it not for the steel-toed shoes, and the way they picked up, stacked, and brought their lunch dishes to the steward area at lunch time, we wouldn't have noticed them.

Now, the first cruise after a major dry dock---that's a different story! If the work hasn't been finished on time, it can be a real mess on that first cruise. Even if the work was finished, sometimes the clean-up leaves a lotto be desired.

We cruised the week before drydock, there were workers, strong smell of varnish, cabin was in shabby shape, and in what I think was an unprecendented move, the cruise line issued OBC's and future cruise credit for literally 100's of people. I would never book a cruise just before dry dock again, unless I was getting an extraordinary deal.

  4. So, booked a W guarantee, not thrilled with my cabin, so first question, i am assuming if it is possible to change to a different suite, that i would have to go through the TA I booked with? Secondly, is there anyway for me to see if anything else is available, and if so, how would I access it?

  5. So, because we used a TA, we can't see cabin availability? Also, it's showing part of our go better package. Should it be showing the onboard credit, the gratuities and internet as well as the bev package? Sorry for all the ???, things have changed since our last cruise.

  6. We booked a W GTY the day before final payment was due and were assigned in an S1 the next day. We were able to switch cabins a couple times within the category. Hope you get a nice upgrade!

Are we able to switch, looks like we are underneath the Cafe. How were you able to switch?
