  1. Had this cruise been on Disney and the OP had tried to do a similar thing, most likely the very polite and well trained Disney agent would’ve told him in advance what would happen if he started to change people around on a reservation with paid drink packages or excursion. So the OP would’ve had the opportunity to make a more informed decision before pulling the trigger for the sake of bringing two extra bottles of wine onboard. That’s about the only difference.

You're correct, my TA should have mentioned that to me and advised. I'm not trying to cheat the system to bring more wine aboard, its my right, according to the rules that I can bring 2 bottles per state room. I just wanted to maximize my allowance without any issues by going by the rules and having a 21+ person in each state room to justify without getting in trouble.

You had mentioned above about excursions.....my two children were booked on an excursion prior, and their reservation stayed the same, attached to the NAME, not the cabin, strange?

  2. .

WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT?????

That they're making me pay and hold my money for a few days when they canceled my package.....why should they hold my money? If they said that I could call back once my refund was done and get it at the same rate, there would be NO issue...

  3. You changed name so you could get 4 bottles of wine onboard. I hope you get a C&A discount on each cabin. Your package is being refunded and you want a $50.00 obc for the changes you made. happy cruising

First off, how do I get a C&A discount??? I think I booked at the lowest possible price....

Secondly, my TA is a friend of mine, booked it originally and then had them transfer to her, merely as a courtesy to a friend who could really use the commission....My package is being refunded, but they're making me spend money TODAY to catch the same price, as opposed to booking it next week when my refund comes back, holding my money isn't a cool practice in my books...

And I actually have 3 rooms, now I have an adult in each so now I can technically bring 6 bottles on board (I'm in the fine wine business, and would love to have an opportunity to bring some awesome bottles to share with my family).

  4. I booked the deluxe beverage package for myself and my wife, at the current rate of $45/per day a while ago...paid it off right away...Today, I had my travel agent (friend of mine) change the names on our reservations to have myself and one of my kids, and then my wife and other kid in separate rooms, whereas before it was myself and my wife, then my kids in an adjoining room. This way, we can take 4btls of wine on the ship...

I get an email from RCCL that they had CANCELED my beverage package!

After being on the phone with them for 45 minutes and getting to a supervisor, they did NOTHING to help me out except make me pay AGAIN for my wife's package and hold my money AGAIN until I get my refund. I was expecting ANYTHING....$50 OBC? ANYTHING, but NO! They did NOTHING except force my hand to make me spend the money again! I know I have a choice to wait for another sale, but I was just trying to get SOMETHING out of them....

Needless to say, I've had pretty bad experiences so far with booking this cruise and nobody on their end is making me feel any better about it. Sorry bout the rant, but being in a sales job all my life, all I do is try to make my customers feel the love....

  5. You're allowed 2 750ml per cabin.....not the monster bottles!!

Thanks for the answer to my recently posted thread, but by monster bottles, I mean REALLY GOOD bottles of wine! :)

But in so far as size, that does clarify...bummer, I have a few really good magnums of wine!

IF I do bring the magnums on board and the disallow them, what happens to those bottles? Do I get them back at the end of the cruise? Would hate to gamble with a few hundred dollar bottle of wine and lose it....

  6. I'm in the wine business, and have a decent amount of terrific wine, and planning to bring my allotted amount of wine on board for my 7 day on Adventure in July.

My question is, do they consider a Magnum (1.5L) of wine as ONE bottle?

2nd question on the same topic, we have 3 rooms. Two are adjoining for my wife and myself, attached to my son and daughter, and the third is for my parents. Am I allowed to bring 2 bottles for EACH room???? So can I bring 6 bottles?????

    TIA!

  7. I posted the current general bar menus and specialty bar menus on my link https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2613542

That's a LOT of great info, thanks!!! I'm in the wine and liquor business, and surprisingly enough, they have a decent selection of wines. SOME of these are a good value, others are WAY over inflated, like NY Steak House prices, 3x plus markup. Luckily as a wine drinker, I took the ultimate drink package and may take advantage of the bottle discounts at dinners, along with the monster bottles I'll be bringing with me!

  8. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. We will be on the Adventure of the Seas next summer. I expect lots of kids so hopefully no real concerns.

Which sailing are you going to be on? We're on the July 13th sailing, and our daughter will JUST be 12yo by 2 weeks! She is a very mature 11yo now, and not the most outgoing, so yeah, worried that she's not going to be able to make friends right away, hoping that ISN'T going to be the truth...

We'll have my 14yo son with us too, but he's the total opposite, he'll be the hit of the party and EVERYONE on the ship will know him by the end of the week, but unfortunately, he doesn't like to "be seen" with his sister.....

  9. OP bought the full drink package but doesn't want to pay for VOOM.

Since the OP does all his business through phone and internet seems like both the ATT plan for shore and VOOM wifi calling on the ship would be business expenses and deductions on your taxes. If it was me I would buy a two device package for the ship (phone wifi calling and laptop) and the ATT for shore if I was going to spend a lot of time in port away from the ship.

Since you pay such great attention to the original post, I have VERIZON...and in case you've been living under a rock for the past few months, there are NO more business deductibles anymore on taxes for 2018, hence Trump's tax reform...If I had an expense account, it would be a no brainer. I just need to make a few calls/texts for a couple days and then truly enjoy my vacation otherwise....

  10. I'm going on my first cruise in 11 years in July, on Adventure of the Seas with my family, can't tell you how excited and OBSESSED I am!!!

I'm in a sales job, and the phone to me is as crucial to my career as air is to breathing! Was having a panic attack as how much it was going to cost me to connect to my customers via cell and my laptop to put orders in..Reading on the Voom internet, I'm thinking to pay for the week of it, giving my customers a Google phone number to call my laptop, enter my orders, put them in, etc....Between the cruise fare, and the Ultimate Drink Package, I've paid ENOUGH! :)

My itinerary is Sunday in Florida, Monday Coco Cay, Tuesday Nassau. I called up Verizon to weigh my options.

Verizon tells me that its $2.99/min for voice, $.50 per outgoing, $.05 for incoming texts, $.25 for MMS...

I said what's the option for when I'm in port in the Bahamas?? They said $10/day to use MY plan! So, paying $20 for Monday and Tuesday, and being able to use my cell as a hotspot for my laptop to connect to, and also my wife and kids to connect to for a little while is a TREMENDOUS option for me! I do most of my business in those two days anyway, so its a LOT better than spending the $112 (ON SALE) for the week!

Makes me feel a lot better about not being in touch! Besides, we're leaving our (will be) 1 year old puppy with a dog sitter for the first time, and NEED to know how our little pooch is doing!!!!

  11. Bottom line, I'm planning on wearing a pair of dressy shorts, and a long sleeve button down shirt, sleeves rolled up, pair of boat shoes to dinner, my son, the same thing (maybe a polo). This to me is comfortable. Who wants to be sitting there with tucked in shirt, uncomfortable for us "portly" people. I intend to be comfortable, look well dressed and groomed, and enjoy. On the "formal" nights, I'll throw on a pair of linen pants or khaki's, and a shirt. I completely agree that gym shorts, sweat shorts, tee shirts, tank tops, tacky flip flops, hats, bathing suits etc, should not be tolerated in the MDR, that just looks unkempt.

Maybe they should rewrite their "rules" to enforce "Dress Clothes" at the specialty dining restaurants. If you want to pay extra to eat, then maybe you should be in the company of the "formal" people...And why do people keep saying that if you want to dress down to go to the Windjammer? I call BS on that! We're paying the SAME fare to eat, sleep, party on the ship, we should all be treated the same.

Happy St Patty's Day!!!! Lets all do a shot!

  12. Ok, I'm expecting to get flamed for this, so here it goes...

I am going on VACATION. I DO NOT GET DRESSED UP ON VACATION! I chose a cruise because I like the "all-inclusive" atmosphere and not staying in one place for the entire week. Another reason is one of our family members does not fly, so being able to uber to the cruise ship is KEY.

I am planning on wearing JEANS to dinner at most, unless I see a bunch of other people wearing NICE shorts. I get dresssed EVERY DAY for WORK, there should be NO reason to have to get dressed up on VACATION!

Now, I've only been on one cruise in my life, and that was on NCL (11 years ago). I do not remember how I got dressed up, but we did spend a few nights in the buffet with our then 3 year old son.

Someone please answer me this: WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GET DRESSED UP ON VACATION????? People, please. It's not the 1920's cruising on the Titanic, you don't get dressed up in a shirt and tie to go fly in a plane like the "olden days". It's 2018, we've overcome this stigma of having to "Dress to Impress" and WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS????

    Let the games begin!!!

  13. I caught RCCL in a lie when booking my cruise (first timer with Royal), and they gave me $125 OBC to compensate and offset what I was quoted (had ZERO clue about Cruise Planner), and with the sale I caught and the OBC, it cost me $613 for 2ppl. Bottom line is, I need to consume an average of 3.68 drinks per day to make it worthwhile! I'll be in the black by 11am!!!!!

  14. Sorry if this has been covered before, searched around, couldn't find anything...

Has anyone's kids done the Teen Adventure excursion in Coco Cay? Wondering if it's worth it for them to go or not. They're 14 and 12, both love to snorkel, seems pretty cool, but do they get bored during the 3 hours? My thought is let them both go, and wife and I can chill on the beach while they're having fun.

    Any thoughts?? TIA!

  15. Not too sure which way is your best bet coming down through NY. I live in NJ, and I can give you one word of advice, stay away from NY bridges. When coming down the NY Thruway, hit up Waze or Google Maps to see traffic, but I would suggest taking 287 South to Exit 37 to Rt 24 to Rt 78 depending on time of day. The other way is to take 87 (NY Thruway) South to I think its either exit 14 or 15 to the Garden State Parkway South down to exit 142 to Rt 78 East. Both take you to the same place, but the Parkway backs up heavily during rush hour. Good luck!
