  1. We only dined in the MDR a few times last week and did not experience this happen. However, our server in the Manhattan Dining room was not very well trained in regards to wine offerings. We ordered a bottle of the Terrazas Malbec, which was listed on a special table tent promoting the wines and events of Chef Aaron Sanchez. She told us "Those wines are only served on the 8th floor." We guessed she meant the Cellar Bar and thought how strange it was that they would advertise wines on every table in the dining room that they could not serve.

Instead of arguing with her, we just found where it was listed on the regular wine menu and ordered it. Ha! When she brought it to the table I quietly let her know the wine was the same as the one on the table tent and she kindly thanked me for filling her in. I have no idea how many people she steered away from those wines, but it was fairly humorous to us and no big deal. Terrazas might think otherwise!

Terrazas is my favorite wine! Good choise!;)

  2. It has been my experience to bring lots of conditioner! The salt, sea, sun, and chlorine really dries out my hair. I have not been in the Haven so maybe the conditioner fairy is more bountiful than in the minisuite. I love the lotion, but again, the sun and sand dries out my skin and feet so I always bring an abundence.

The brand both in the minisuite and spa was Bvlgari. Again, Haven may vary, but I think this is the higher end of the provisions...someone will correct me I am sure.

Thank you for you comment, Yes, I should bring big conditioner container! Thanks!!!

  3. Hi, please bear with me...it's my first cruise of my life! :loudcry:

I saw shampoo & soap are provided for sure, but how about conditioner and body lotion?

if yes, which brand will be? and we can ask how much as we need?

Our family will stay in H5 of Gateway in 2 weeks!

Now I am making a packing list;)

  4. I booked my OCT cruise on Jan, before final payment date, I noticed $400 dropped, so I sent an email and recevied refund, but after final payment date, I also noticed $600 dropped again, so I asked to NCL, but no luck, no OBC, no REFUND, no upgrade offer, they just said to me "You wil be invited to UPGRADE BID"

The lesson what I learned is "NEVER BOOK CRUISE IN ADVANCE"

I booked H5 in JAN, and after final payment, I saw only 2 rooms were sold, including mine, so I will be the one who paid the most for H5 on my Cruise ship, haha.

I only bid for DOS, since min bid amount for OS or H4 was way too high, they are more expensive than direct up-sell, and I don't want to spend more money.

  5. Anyone know of any one day all inclusives or jet ski rental within reasonable distance from the cruise docs?

Hi, I am also looking for Jet Ski in St.Thomas. I found some rental shop in St.Thomas, but I am thinking to go Honeymoon Beach. There is Wicked watersports and found they have great reputation, so I will take 10min ferry to Honeymoon beach and do 1 hour Jet Ski tour and 2-3 hours in the beach and get back to Cruiseship around 2-3 pm.

    Hope this helps

  6. In my case, what would you suggest?

    - Booked a hotel near by Airport

    - Arrival at Miami around 2:30pm the day before cruise.

    - Departure from Miami around 4:00pm at same day off the cruise.

I want to visit Dolphin mall and Brikell City center.

    Opt1 )

    - Dolphin mall on pre-cruise day, since it is near by airport hotel.

    - Brikell City center on off-cruise day.

    - what my concern is where to keep our luggage, I don't want to drag my luggage all day long.

    Opt2)

    - Brikell City centre/ Bayside market on pre-cruise day.

    - Dolphin mall on off-cruise day.

    - I've heard there is Luggage storage on Dolphin mall.

I need to buy Go-Pro on pre-cruise day and McBook Pro on off-cruise day and I don't see I-Shop in Dolphin mall.

If you were me, what would you do?

    • Cirque Dreams- $10 USD regular seats / $15 USD premium seats / $35 USD VIP seating (Breakaway)

Always get the premium seats. One member of your party needs to be in line at least 1 hour before show time. Your entire party must be in line 30 minutes before show time when seating starts. You are seated by a hostess, front to back in the theater. Haven guests will be seated first, using a crew elevator into the theater, so even if you are first in line, you won’t get the “best” seats.

Thank you for your info! Haven guests will be seated first, but their seat will be which they are paying for, right? Even if they enter first, but they should seat what they pay for or there is certain seat for only Haven guests always?

I am actually in Haven, so I am curious.

  7. On our Getaway cruise two weeks ago, the Glow party was on Night 6.

We used our SDP for the Cirque. ALWAYS get premium seats (which retail price is somewhere between $35 and $39 plus 20% gratuity).

Menus, general information on the Getaway, dailies, etc. can be found on our live post from two weeks ago https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2666700

Harvest Caye was a beach day for us. We rented a clamshell and alternated between swimming in the ocean and swimming in the pool.

I didn't know we can use SDP for Cirque. Good to know, but I can't decide which restaurant I picked should be dropped. I booked Ocean Blue / Cagney and Moderno.

How was Cirque show? is it worth to see? We have seen O-show/ Ka show and Le Reve in Las Vegas, what do you think?

  8. BUT do not pay for the NCL excursions up front. Phone the Miami Shorex number and reserve the tours. Then you will be charged for the shorex on your folio (less any Platinum discount). Then when you have done the shorex the $50 will credited to your folio.

$50 per CABIN per PORT for NCL Shorex ONLY .

Thank you, I think I can use concierge for this shore excursion booking on board, not in advance. :-)

  9. I have read some comment and found given $50 shore excursion credit is for every port, is it true? I thought it is only one time credit we can use, but $50 for every port is really great, even I booked non-cruise excursion on Tortola already.

My reservation doesn't show any clue of applying on every port, it says "1x choice Shore Excursion credit"

It is the first cruise for me and my family, so I have so many questions. Thank you for help in advance!

  10. Earlier this year there were three of us eating at Cagney's. For two of us, we either used a Platinum dinner voucher or the dining package. The third person ordered only appetizers. We were not charged for any of the appetizers (even though we expected to be). I think it just depends. It was the second time we had that particular server (by accident -- we didn't request her) so that may have had something to do with it.

Before we realized we are all Platinum on our next cruise, we planned on doing the same thing -- just paying for one of the meals.

The other thing is that your child can order from the kids menu at no charge in all of the specialty restaurants, so that is an option as well.

Thank you!!! Yes, I may order APP for my girl probably, since I never finish mine and my girl is really eating small portion, of course I am expecting to receive bill to pay, no problem!

  11. The Specialty Dining Plan is associated with a person, not items ordered. If you stay with the basic 1 app, 1 enteee, 1 dessert, then the wait staff can’t argue with sharing with your DD.

It’s when you order 3 apps and your DD eats one, that there may be an issue.

Option: appetizers are usually reasonably priced. Order an app for her, with the intention of paying cash, share a bit of your main course and dessert with her. The waiters will likely not charge for the app for your DD.

Option: Order a main course for your DD from the complimentary kids menu and give her some of your main course too.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, Will order main course or app for her and pay definately. It's our first cruise and I have many questions on even small things. Thanks!

  12. Officially, no you can’t use your package to buy anything for your daughter. The package covers you only.

However, in practice it is poasoble that they will allow you to do so, as long as she doesn’t eat very much. We have on a couple of occasions not had any charge for our son because “he didn’t eat enough”.

Personally, I would go expecting her to be charged. Don’t try to sneak anything, and order the apps or things that she will eat for her. Worst case is that you end up with a small bill at the end, but they may decide not to charge you. If you are clearly trying to sneak her food then I think they will look less sympathetically at you.

Obviously this only applies in the a la carte places. Teppenyaki will almost certainly charge and they also will in Moderno unless she clearly doesn’t eat much at all.

Thank you! it helps a lot.

  13. We have Specialty Dining Package for 2 and I know we can order multiple Appetizer and desert (even though I don’t eat desert).

Who can tell me how to pay for my little girl who is 10 year old? If we order some appetizer with our Dining package and order only main dish for my daughter, only this main dish will be charged, right?

My daughter is not a big fan of food(really small bite), so if she wants to eat only appetizer, not main dish, this order can be covered with our UDP? So confused, please help!

  14. It was because you booked the Haven before the change. People in the Haven during the same week as you were service charged on their promos if they booked after the change.

Oh..I am confused. 18% service charge will be applied on Haven guests? It depends on promo? I booked on Jan 14-21/Oct gateway, is it before the change or after the change? How do I know?
