Sounds like only required maintenance will be done.  This will be in line with other ships that have gone into drydock during the pandemic.   It's doubtful that any part of the "Revolution"  will be accomplished.

Better to sail a reliable ship.

However, I believe that they consider cargo ships to be essential, cruise ships not so much.

They dry dock cruise ships in Marghera, current google maps satellite show a ship in dry dock.  Wonder if they will allow this service in the future. May be another over-site in the decision process.

We have discussed this before, but a big issue is how to move thousands of cruisers between Marghera and Venice.   At the moment there are only two choices which are via some kind of water craft or via bus.  The bus option is not good for Venice as the last thing they want are a 100 buses moving over the causeway into the P. Roma.  And it would take nearly 100 buses to handle a large cruise ship's passengers.  Another option would be to bus folks to Tronchetta where the passengers can connect to the People Mover...but the numbers would overwhelm that system.  Using some kind of watercraft might be a better solution, but they may need to think about building some new kind of boat designed to handle a large crowd.  Vaporettos are a bit small if you are dealing with 4000+ passengers and there are probably not enough spare vaporettos just sitting around waiting to move cruise ship passengers.  I imagine that the Italian authorities will have it all worked out in about 50 years.

They could use the ship tenders as they do in Kotor.

No this will be our first time and with 4 sea days i believe we will enjoy the retreat.  It is also over our 50th anniversary.

You will love it, expensive yes, but, in our opinion Luminae dinning and larger state rooms make it well worth the premium. Priority check in and out also a great perk. Make sure you check in in FLL at the Suite guest area, your sea pass is held in that area. We have done Suites the last 3 three cruises and will never go back.

We got the email this morning and our September 9th cruise was canceled for the 3rd time since we booked in 2019. We just booked the Equinox for Aug 27th, a 10 day cruise from FLL to the ABC Islands. The FCC 125% credit let us upgrade to Celebrity Aft facing Suite on the 12th deck for the same as our Aft facing Aqua Class cabin on the Infinity. Not where we wanted to cruise this year but happy to be going somewhere.

Have you sailed Suite (Retreat) Class before?

We were on a 15 night M class cruise and noticed that the same 'crowd' had the raised area with the better loungers every day all day. Well into week 2 hubby and I got up very early and set up on the NICE loungers and even ate there. It was hilarious to see 2 folks glaring at us as if we stole their property. They repeatedly  came by whilst we ignored them. By early afternoon we had relaxed enough so I got up and found a nice couple who were wondering around and offered up our spots.  It was a good day and we still chuckle about it .. We have never been chair hogs but at least this was legit as our spots were not vacated for more them 30 mins. at a time

Well done, love the down east take on this situation.

I am a Canadian that has rented cars twice in LeHavre. Once to visit Bayeaux, Juno beach, Benny-sur-Mer, and Pegasus bridge. The second visit was to Etretat and Honfleur. We rented from Europcar in town because we arrived on a Sunday and from rentacar the 2nd time. Unless the rentacar price is outrageous, I would use them again as we were on the road so much quicker and didn’t have to put a larger buffer on our return time. If you can’t drive a manual transmission, book early to get an automatic though the cost is much more. Have them switch the cars gps to English before leaving the lot or you may have to use your high school French 😀🇨🇦

Drive the speed limit or you will get a photo souvenir.

Did Rent a Car offer higher mileage limits? The show 100km free and a charge per km after that. WE would likely drive 250 to 300 km visiting the Canadian landing sites.

  8. We just return from a 21 night Mediterranean cruise on the Crown. The coffee in the Horizon and main dinning rooms is not close to being called coffee. Do as we did, we purchased a French press at the first port along with some ILLY coffee. We would make our coffee using the supplied hot water in the Horizon. Problem solved!

  9. We sailed June 2 to June 23 round trip Barcelona. We were on the Crown in Feb. of this year, and of course, in June. It is a lovely ship, and note it is in excellent condition.

Our tours were all through Princess.

Athens: all day, Parthenon, old Olympic stadium, Plaka old town, lunch at a Greek restaurant (heaping platters of food served, so good), Temple of Poseiden, a fine day.

Santorini: drive to village of Oia on switchback roads, lovely village, white buildings with neat little shops and Greek Orthodox church.drive to Pyrogos another quaint village with steep narrow streets. Drive to restaurant with another Greek meal.Bus ride to town to shop and return to ship via cable car. The wait was 30 min. We did not mind, but heard others complaining. On the ship we chose to eat dinner at the buffet as it was Greek & Med. themed. good food esp. the Baklava. Ha, ha, sure wish I had a plastic container to take some of that Baklava back to the cabin!!!!

Sea day: early brk at Int. café. 10:00: t-shirt sale, nice shirts. lunch in dining room:fried calamari with marinara sauce, gazpacho soup, grilled eggplant, grilled fish over mushroom gratin, tortollini & gravy, ice cream ( selections for DH & me). That dining room food at lunch is ever so good. A relaxing day. Dinner: French onion soup, escargot, grilled veg, tuna tapas, Cornish game hen, Lamb shank (tender) entrees with sides. Both of us had chocolate raspberry swirl ice cream ( our favorite). Set clocks back 1 hr.

Kotor: Boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks church. The boat ride is on the Boka Bay on the Adriatic Sea. The church is Baroque with 68 paintings. Back to Kotor with a guided walking tour. Another quaint village with interesting shops. Went into a Serbian Orthodox church. Into St. Anthony Church You can walk Kotor on your own no problem.

Messina: tour titled: In the steps of the Godfather. This was one of our favorites. Visited two villages where the first Godfather movie filmed some scenes. Savoca is truly a quaint village overlooking the sea. It is where Michael and Apollonia were married. We went into the church, Santa Maria Degli Angeli. Then walked to Bar Vitelli, to see the collection of phots taken during the production and nearby at granita di linome, a favorite of Francis Ford Coppola. On to the medieval village of Forza d'Agro to see the Convento Agostiniano, also featured in the film. Interesting that a few days after we returned home, the first Godfather movie was on AMC. WOW!! We were just there and walked those streets.

Naples: had my own tour guide. My DH was stationed in Naples for a total of 18 mos. in the Navy. U.S. for 6 mos. Naples for 6 mos. then back and forth. We walked off the ship with map in hand and "ran wild", well...….. Highlights was cappuccino and great pastry at Gran Caffe Gambrinus Via Chiaia N. 1 Napoli, check the photos when you google this place. The F.ll Gambardella is a shop since 1945 that hand crafts nativity scenes and other figures from terra cotta. I bought Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The men were so kind and pleasant, offering a small sample of expresso to us. We always smile an are polite to the people and they are in return. Also, purchased a leather purse. Oh, yes, I have the nativity set under a glass dome on a table in the living room where I can see it everyday. My DH was so happy to return to Naples. He did buy a cap with Napoli on the front ( so proud).Lots of shops and scooters, be careful, they are swift!! Horns honking. A fun day!

    Sea day

Disembarkation: Off at 9:00, on a Princess shuttle to airport. A huge place. Found American Airlines, now, for the problem. For some bizarre reason, AA was having trouble with the U.S. passports scanning and boarding passes. European passports no problem. Finally, after 1 hr & 50 min. wait we were processed. Then onto more security. Had about 20min to spare. Boarded and home to Indiana!

Love the 21 days. Will be sailing on the Crown in Feb. for 20 days to Eastern and Southern Caribbean. Hope this helps. Never have done a review before. I always keep a journal. Did not keep the patters.

We did notice that beginning the third week (Athens) more families boarded. Younger children 6 to 10 yrs.) by themselves. Teens sitting on stairways, and all around the pool and hot tubs. We did not use the pool area on this voyage, as we were busy and tired after touring.

Thank you for posting your report. My DW and I are on the Crown 09/01 for 21 nights. We really appreciate your effort and candor.

  10. I was notified by my pharmacy that one of my medications was being recalled by Health Canada The med carried a slight risk of cancer over the long term and was changed to one that is now approved. Due to this change I notified my medical insurer, My prearranged policy would not cover in the event of an illness related to the medication ( high blood pressure). My cancellation insurance informed me that I would not be covered due to the fact that I was still able to travel. The risk was too great to travel with medical insurance limitations. I was able to find a company (Manulife) to cover my medical for 26 days, however, there was a $160cdn premium for this coverage. Beware of the fine print.

    • Our Visa card (TD Infinite) covers out of country medical insurance for 21 days if you book your vacation/travel using the card. This applies to all people booked up tp 65 years of age. The card covers above 65 years coverage for 4 days. You can top up additional days as required if needed.
