Yea there is a very good chance he will not be allowed to get on the ship if the names don't match. You have to try and get this straightened out ASAP before the cruise. Have him ask his mother if it was a legal name change and if so does she have any documents. His best bet is to try and get a passport if he can get all the documents together.

Yea they have been doing this for so long at this point it doesnt even seem like a promotion just a given.

We were on Serenade in October and overall we enjoyed the food. Sure there was a few dishes here and there we did not love but overall we were very happy with the food!
-
Yea that would definitely be frustrating. To have one port changed and to lose another one entirely and add a 5th Sea day is alot of changes this close out. Did they say why they were changing this cruise so much?
-
The past few years in Sept-October there have been 4-5 Boston to Bermuda sailings on Serenade of the Seas. I was looking at 2020 sailings and its looking like there are no Boston to Bermuda sailings listed so far on Brilliance which is replacing Serenade. Will any more sailings be released for 2020 or should they all be up now anyone know? I went on the Serenade Boston to Bermuda in October and it was great! Would stink if they wont be doing this route anymore.

Tough question. Our overall preferred cruise line is Royal Caribbean. They basically only do 5 day Bermuda cruises while NCL does 7 to Bermuda. I prefer the longer 7 days NCL does but prefer RCI in general. Then again there are many other cruise lines that go to Bermuda. RCI and NCL are just the ones I'm most familiar with.

RC does have 7 day Bermuda sailings too but they are usually later in the summer/fall. I am going on a 7 day Bermuda cruise on Serenade of the Seas this weekend from Boston!

Hi. We just got off the Serenade of the Seas this past Sunday. The pizza was as good as we have ever had on any line, and we've been on Premier, Carnival, Princess, Holland, Celebrity, Disney, and other RCI ships. It was very good, and our desserts in the main dining room were excellent.
Good to hear that! We sail on Serenade this Sunday!

You need to rethink your plan. If you were to disembark in Florida, NCL will be assessed a large fine. Cruise ships are not allowed to transport passengers from one US port to another without a stop in a foreign country. NY to Florida doesn't cut it.
Very good point!

Why would she do that? Makes no sense at all!
Yea filling out official government paperwork is not the best time for joking around. Just added unneeded stress and extra work. Maybe you should handle all the paperwork from now on...

From an article on Cruise Fever...
"Royal Caribbean changed Grandeur of the Seas sailing from a trip to Bermuda to a cruise with a two day stop in Nassau, Bahamas.* As a result, the cruise line is adding to a 50% refundable onboard credit (of their cruise fare) to passenger’s accounts.* Any amount they do not spend will be credited towards their credit card on file.* In addition, they will also receive a 50% credit towards a future cruise for cruises booked in the next year.
If a guest wishes not to sail on this modified itinerary, they will receive a 100% credit towards a future cruise.* Grandeur of the Seas is scheduled to leave Baltimore on September 8. 2018 for a five day cruise to the Bahamas.
Carnival Cruise Line is also offering guests compensation for a cruise that needed to be altered due to weather concerns.* Carnival Pride was scheduled for a seven night cruise to Bermuda from Baltimore departing on Sunday.* The itinerary has been changed and the new port stops will be*Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Freeport.
As a goodwill gesture, Carnival is giving all passengers on this sailing a 25% future cruise credit for any cruise taking place before March 7, 2020.
Both cruise lines stated that the reason for the change in itineraries was done for the safety of the guests and crew.* All credits will be based on the cruise fare that each passenger paid."

Yea looks pretty bad for NCL to not offer anything when the other two biggest lines are offering at least some compensation.

I would say that the Royal Caribbean offer is more generous than they usually make. They may have made it because Grandeur is on a five day cruise, it is an older ship. Is Nassau going to be the only port? That cruise is going to be the pits compared to a 7 day cruise on Escape which is a much newer and better outfitted ship.

Good points. Yea Nassau is their only port stop on the changed itinerary they are overnighting there.

I was just on one of the RC boards and Grandeur of the Seas was also changed from Bermuda to Nassau today but they are offering 100% credit for a future cruise if you don’t want to go on the new itinerary or 50% of fare in OBC if you do go.
I am pretty new to cruising only been on one cruise and it was with NCL. Is this common for NCL to be more strict in these matters then the other lines?

I doubt it, cruise lines can change itinerary at any time for any reason and not offer refunds. There is always a chance that ships have to sail north vs. south during hurricane season.
Yes but in this case the passengers not allowed into Canada would have been allowed into Bermuda. Does not seem fair since they may have purposely avoided Canada cruises for this purpose. So should they just never be allowed to cruise then since at anytime the cruise line can change the itinerary to Canada?

My niece is (was) checking in on The Dawn a while ago in Boston. She says a LOT of people have been turned away from boarding because they're deemed inadmissible into Canada. I never even thought of that ! What a horrible way to start a vacation !
Wow do they get a refund? Its not their fault they got such short notice and did not have time to get new paperwork.

Tomorrow Dawn cruise to Bermuda changed to a Canada/New England cruise most likely stopping at Saint John and Halifax. Official announcement should be coming out soon. I seen it on the roll call and on facebook.
Oh wow quite a change from the original itinerary. I hope those of you on this cruise are able to make the best of it.
-
Hope it works out for you!
We have a cruise from Boston to Bermuda in a few weeks. Anyone know where they would even change the itinerary to if a hurricane came? Caribbean is likely to far from Boston. Would it be a cruise to New England even though leaving from New England?

I would love to know how people can afford to do so many cruises, sometimes more than one a year. They are not exactly cheap. I had to save up for a number of years to go on my first, the CMV world cruise, this year but met many people who had been on 20+ cruises. None seemed especially rich.
Well here is a question for you. What made you decide to go on a world cruise for your very first cruise? How did you know it would be a good use of money and something you would even enjoy? Most people try out shorter cruises first to make sure they like cruising before spending that kind of money. In fact from afar many people in your life may be wondering how you can afford to go on a world cruise having never even tried cruising before just as you are wondering how others can go on several much shorter 7 day cruises in a year.

I am on your cruise and my friend and I were trying to find one independently and I don’t think we found one yet.
If we find one I will come back and let you know

I also was looking for one for the week before yours for my cruise on the Serenade of the Seas. Have had no luck. It seems like a lot of the tours seem to cut back after the summer maybe?

Wow just read your update. That sounds like a very stressful dinner. Very frustrating to be treated like that when it was NCLs fault it sounds like. I bet they offered the bottle of wine because they were afraid you will rate their service low which honestly you should. They did not handle this right on the ship or at HQ. Hopefully the rest of your cruise was good at least. I would call in a few days and ask to speak to an upper manager and complain. Not right to spend $7000 and be treated like your trying to steal dinner or something.
-
Wow I hope they are able to get a refund for the cruise. If the air was provided by the cruise line they really should pay the fine and let them on the ship in the next US port.

So if you get an upgrade they don’t contact you in anyway you just have to notice it in your docs? Surprised they wouldn’t call or email to let people know. I’m taking my first cruise with RC this fall so still learning how they do things.

Oh that’s good news! We had a cruise to Bermuda in 2015 and the public transportation was great. Have another one coming up in October so hoping things close to normal by then!
