  1. FYI - my wife and I enjoy wine with dinner every evening - and our sailaway tradition always involves some special drink. When flying trans-Atlantic, my go-to method is two Drambuies with water on the side - sure helps sleep the night away.

It is unfortunate that so many attention-deficit posters ignored the essence of my post : that it IS sad if liquor is an absolute essential - so important that it trumps EVERY OTHER consideration. Sure, I doubt I ever will sail without a drink --- but to see available alcohol as a sine qua non for any activity is sad.

Rough day? Your remedial reading teacher on vacation?

Hmmm, does your sponsor know you drink wine every evening? Is that allowed?

I've never had a need for remedial anything, however you should look into it, especially to come up with your inferences based on a question that took NONE of your listed considerations into account. Then again I guess your own conclusions could also apply to those who need a 'method' to fall asleep on transatlantic flights. Oh well, each to his own. Night, night now. Cheers!

  2. Tell your daughter perfect attendance is very special.....Our youngest (adult son) now a teacher himself with a Master's degree had perfect attendance K-12 and that special recognition he got when he graduated high school is something we will always be proud of.

Even now we plan our extended family cruises to coincide with his school breaks.

    K-12, now THATS's impressive!

  3. No. My daughter is only in 2nd grade but hasn't missed a day of school ever since she STARTED school in kindergarten. She's very proud of the perfect attendance awards she gets at the end of every year and the quarterly rewards the school gives out (free pizza coupons etc). The only time I would consider taking her out is if she's sick and thank goodness that hasn't happened yet. So far her sniffles and tummy aches have been programmed to coincide with the weekends lol:')

Can't say it never crossed my mind when researching and planning vacations, especially cruises. Everything is soooo much cheaper when the kids are in school but I couldn't in good conscience bring myself to seriously consider it. Plus its like a reward for working hard in school all year and something to look forward to when school's out. Also the type of vacations I like to take lend themselves to summer weather and its my favorite time of year to travel, despite the crowds.

  4. Where I live at least, they sell plastic mattress covers at the dollar store. They are thin like a plastic shower curtain, so would be easy to pack and only a dollar so just trash at the end of the cruise. Would still have to change the sheets but the mattress would be protected which is a much bigger issue.
