  1. Thanks for the answers! We are super excited!

We were chatting about the solarium earlier and my daughter has heard me say numerous times how I can’t wait to visit this area. She is 14, taller than me and so mature... is she going to be able to go in there with me? She really wants to... she’s the type to kick back with a book for hours. I thought part of it was adult only?

  2. Our cruise leaves tomorrow, curious about two things:

I remember reading about delicious roast beef sandwiches aboard the Oasis... my husband loves roast beef sandwiches... where can we find these?

Also, wondering about meals at the solariums. Do they cost extra? And are kids allowed at supper?

    Thanks.

  3. I would just say this: as someone who has an incredibly stressful job, I come on this site to read, research and, quite honestly, get EXCITED about my upcoming vacation. I bet others do too. Be nice to each other. Life is too short and vacations are too few and far between!

I started coming to Cruise Critic in February after we booked our July cruise. Immediately, I was blown away by the sarcastic, opinionated, nasty tone that people use to speak to one another. I usually look past it because I'm simply here for the same reasons as you, to learn and get excited about my vacation. People should take your advice - just be nice to each other.

  4. When I booked the five ocean view cabins for my family on Deck 6, I put my dd and her boyfriend in a BW balcony on Deck 10 since it was little over $400 less than ocean view balcony, which is the only kind of cabin (other than suites on NCL) that she has sailed. Therefore I chose BW over CP since I was able to book her the second cabin from the aft which also had an ocean "view".

On Wednesday, I saw that my August Allure sailing I could book a GTY OV balcony for $106 total, which I did but I have to say these kind of threads had me slightly nervous on booking her a GTY but I went for it.

By Thursday, one day after booking, she was assigned OV balcony on Deck 6. I wondered slightly since we are all linked if they placed her there but either way Im very happy we are all on the same Deck and actually right across the BW from each other and very relieved that she got her cabin assignment.

That worked out soooo well for you! Awesome!

  5. It appears that you think that as soon as all the rooms have been sold, they can be, and should be, immediately "ASSIGNED". The cruise line may have a different opinion and may delay for quite some time "ASSIGNING" these rooms.

I think that was part of what I was wondering.... If the category is sold out, would/could we expect our room assignment. But it makes sense that they may delay this until closer to the sailing date. Thanks.

  6. Thanks for all the responses. I realize there are a small number of people that book a GTY room and run into problems, but I am optimistic that we’ll be ok. I’m very new to the cruising world and was asking more out of curiosity, what does a sold out cruise mean to us with a GTY unassigned room. I’ve learned that what RCI shows in their website as available can be selective in order to meet their marketing needs. But our cruise is just over a month away, and given the time of year I wonder if SOLD OUT actually means sold out at this point?

Again, thanks for all the replies... we are so excited for our cruise!!!! :)

  7. Thanks for the quick response. I found 3 different menus, I assume they rotate between them?

I'm pretty sure my son will struggle with the main course selections. I found a copy of the kids menu as well, and wondering if he would be able to order from both? If he wanted pizza, can he order two from the kids menu? He's 12 and very active and has an enormous appetite. :)

  8. I'm sure this has been asked before, I actually think I saw a copy of the menus here at one point. But unfortunately I couldn't find them when I searched.

Does anyone have a copy of the menus?

We're sailing in July and my kids are starting to ask "What kind of food?" lol

    Thanks in advance.

  9. You say something like: latte, cappucino, espresso, etc.

Thanks. I sort of figured that for items like that.

I’m plain and simple, I love a good cup of coffee (not latte, espresso, etc). Is there a difference between the cup of coffee I’ll get if I have the drink package vs not having it?

  10. On our upcoming cruise, we have been considering doing the Labidee zip-lining excursion. We booked in Feb and all along, the price has been around $125 CAD per person. About two weeks ago, I noticed it was $135. And last week it was $170!!!! I just checked to see if the price had gone down with the current sale, but it's just over $150. Wow. Not sure $600 is worth 45 seconds of fun.

Is it normal to see the prices go up as the cruise gets closer? Our cruise is July 29. Thanks.

  11. i received an email from RCI asking us to ‘add ourselves to the list’ if we were interested in a paid upgrade. We currently have a Neighbourhood GtY stateroom and the upgrade is to a Large Oceanview Balcony $150. We said yes and are on the list.

Does this usually happen? Can I expect an upgrade? And for only $150. Would that be per person?

  12. We booked in February for a 7 day cruise on Oasis. We're also a family of 4 and I wasn't sure what an average 7 day cruise for 4 should cost. Several of my friends and their families were cruising with RCI this year (on Allure and Harmony) so I asked what they paid, so I'd have a baseline. Two friends were travelling during Easter and they both paid around $6000 for two rooms per family. Both families have 4 in their group (2 adults, 2 kids). I had another friend go later in April and only paid $4000 for 4.

When we started looking, I was seeing prices anywhere from $6500 to $7500. We could only go in late July and I was starting to accept that we wouldn't go, maybe we'd try for a cheaper time of year sometime. However, then I saw a GTY deal come up and we jumped at it. We have a neighbourhood balcony guarantee book for $4600. Pretty much a $2000 savings and worth it to us. We have only ever cruised once before with Disney and had an ocean view room. So we're happy to have a balcony and just to be on the ship. So I guess if a GTY room is an option, that's another way to try and save $$.

I keep looking for a deal where we can get two rooms but haven't found it yet. Either way, we feel like we'll be fine in the same room.
