Am I doing something wrong, when I put my iPhone 7 in airplane mode it turns off wifi? And when in airplane mode I turn on wifi airplane mode goes off. My carrier is AT&T.
If you put your phone in airplane mode and turn on wifi for wifi calling, then you will not receive a cell phone bill. To use wifi calling, both your carrier and your phone must support it. You also need to set it up - best done before you leave home. I have an iPhone 7 and AT&T and it works fine. I can call someone in the US from anywhere in the phone using wifi, and AT&T charges nothing - the only chage is for the cost of the wifi.I have used wifi calling with no probems and no charges at many hotels in Europe that provided free wifi. I also have used wifi calling on Princess ships using the Princess wifi minutes. The only cost would be for the Princess wifi plan, and I never used more than my free Platinum minutes - so no cost.
With Princess wifi, you can't leave your phone connected all the time - you would quickly use up all of your minutes. But it is easy to log in to make a few phone calls and then to log out.
