  1. Hello!

We just did this last week. They gave me a key to my kiddos room and my son got an extra key to the other room.

We went to guest services -- it was VERY easy! I did carry 2 keys as did my son.

    Ok great!

There are six of us total my husband and I and 4 kids . I would like for us all to have keys to each other’s room in case the kids need something in the middle of the night they can easily access our room. Plus my oldest daughter who will be 18 at the time is booked with me and I know in reality she’ll be staying in the room across the hall. She likes to stay out later and I was thinking how difficult that would be if I had to wake up and get my husbands key to let her in her room every night! So we should all be able to carry our sign and sail card and an extra room card?

  2. Hi all.

My daughter will be 18 at the time of our next cruise.

My question is will I still need a notarized letter from her biological father?

We just got back from a cruise ,she was 17 at the time I had the letter prepared but was not asked for it .

It is pretty difficult to get a letter for her because her father works in another country and is kind of a dead beat ;p

We got lucky in getting the last letter . He was in town and decided to grace her with his presence. You never know if he will be around or not , and really hasn’t had anything to do with her the past 16 years. So I would rather not have to go through the trouble if it’s not needed. I know at 18 she is an adult , but I’ve heard cruise lines don’t consider them as adults until they’re 21. Oh yes she also has a passport. I’m thinking maybe that’s why they did not ask for the letter the last time.

    Any advise appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Our next cruise we booked a balcony room and my kids are going to be an interior across the hall.

Will Carnival allow us to have an extra key card to our children’s room so we can check in with them through the night if needed?

I’ve researched and found many threads stating all we have to do is go to guest services and they will give us extra cards , but these posts all seem to be old I haven’t found anything recent. I just want to make sure the policy has not changed.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. The closest beach is at South Frigate Bay. Personally I would not consider it walkable. It is over 3.6 miles away from the port. There are hills that you must deal with plus the fact that there is not a sidewalk along side most of the road. Take a cab.

    Thank you!

Are there restrooms and food / drink available?

  5. Hey there ,

We love to explore beaches at different ports. We like to walk , so a bit of a walk wouldn’t be a problem.

We would like somewhere that has some sort of facilities, bathroom a place to get drinks . Also a walk to do some exploring or shopping after.

Never been to st. Kitts so no clue about the island at all.

    Any advice / suggestions welcome!

  6. Hello ,

Curious which pier do carnival ships stop at? We would like to explore old San Juan as it’s been years since I’ve been there. I noticed there are several piers that dock directly in Osj and a couple at panam pier which is not in osj.

Thanks in advance for any info :D

  7. Looks like you are on Epic. GSC and Grand Cayman will be tender. Cozumel is normally Punta Langosta in downtown San Miguel but can depend on other ships in port. I think Epic has Priscilla Queen of the Desert, I haven't seen it but others say it is definitely NOT kid friendly. Plenty of good free eats, three main dining rooms, Osheehan's and the buffet.

    Thank you so much!

Yes those are the shows. That’s too bad because my kids always love the shows. Do you know if they have any kids shoes or will those be the only ones?

  8. We have a ncl cruise booked for December and it will be our first cruise on this line.

Very confused about dining and shows. Do I need to book reservations for these? I’ll have 3 children with me ages 12,11 and 9 and an 18 year old. Are the shows all appropriate for kids? Not sure how to know which to book for all of us and which to book for just the adults.

Also I did not purchase the specialty dining package as the cruise fair in itself was at least 7k did not feel we should have to pay extra to dine. Are there still good dining options available like the main dining rooms on carnival? Or is it a very slim selection.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated! We will be on the epic

    Thanks in advance!

Oh yes one more ? Our ports are grand cayman , gsc in bahamas , cozumel and Falmouth Jamaica. Which of those are tender ports? Do you know which port ncl uses in Cozumel.

    Thanks !

  9. I am not sure how windy it was for us last week (Saturday) at Roatan, but it was windy and we still anchored and tendered in. It did slow down the tendering process a bit so it took us awhile to get off (we were at port with another ship which got to dock). Our snorkel trip near Little French Key still happened--the shallow water snorkeling was fine, but the waves were huge when we went to deeper water. I probably would've preferred to skip that part.

Our departure and sailing from Roatan that night was VERY choppy. Definitely the rockiest I've ever experienced on my two cruises. Surprisingly I didn't really feel sick that night, just laid down for awhile before dinner. I am, however, on day 5 of post-cruise vertigo, so that night may have affected me on this end, unfortunately!

Last time we were at Roatan it wasn’t a tender port . Did you guys dock at Mahogany Bay?

That is good to know you were still able to make it.

I’ve been looking and the winds look terrible 30 mph for the next couple of weeks.

Maybe that’s common there this time of year?

The last two cruises I have went on I have felt terrible when we got home! Very dizzy. My husband did also.

The two we went on years ago never bothered us. Maybe it’s something that gets worse the older we get 😂

  10. If you goat often that is great.

You can speak with their pediatrician about this.

When our children were young our daughter would get car sick and the seas bothered her so we came prepared with children's bonine but we did that after consultation with her pediatrician.

Other things that may help are ginger, apple with some saltine crackers or even a ginger ale.

We prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

    Have a wonderful cruise.

    Keith

Thank you. We boat often in the summer, but not in the winter months.

I have one daughter that is super prone to car sickness , but she’s never had issues on the lake. Again I know that’s a totally different experience than a large boat. I plan on giving them all Dramamine or meclizine ( Bonine) the first couple of days and then see how it goes from there.

Which one of these do you recommend?

I remember a while back before we took a long flight to South America our Ped recommendation half a tab of Dramamine 30 min before boarding the plane. I will check with her , but curious what others used for their kids.

    Thank you!

  11. I recall a time, though, that we had to cancel a stop in Key West because of high winds. The winds out in the open ocean were around 55 m.p.h. (so the captain said). He said that, although there was a chance that we could get into the harbor OK, he was more concerned about leaving. The reason - I've forgotten now, though he did explain it. I just remember getting up very early to see the ship get in to port. seeing the lights of the city growing bigger and bigger, then seeing the lights suddenly get smaller. I don't think Key West itself saw winds that reached 55 - probably more like 30.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully we at least make one 😀

  12. We are in a wild weather pattern...with "N'or easters" assaulting the East Coast. The storms travel easterly...so you're going to have winds and rocky seas for the time being.

I’m a little worried about the rocky sea. My children have never been , and no idea if they will get sea sick or not. Hoping not!

We live on a large lake and boat often. So they are used to some sailing.

They’ve never been on a large cruise though and that’s a totally different experience.

I’m hoping for the best 😀

  13. I just want to emphasize that it is very rare not to be able to dock even with winds. We have been on 100+ cruises and I would say one time we could not.

The challenge with high winds is if you are not docked and tenders are being used. On occasion we have missed a port or two but often they are replaced with other ports.

And please remember that a 10 day forecast is more often wrong then right.

    Have a great cruise.

    Keith

    Thank you for your response:)

  14. First, I suggest you and all others to take 30 minutes and actually read the cruise contract you agree to when you set foot on the ship. You are guaranteed ZERO.

Yes I understand this policy. I was honestly just curious how many of you have had this happen in the past. I’ve already told my children in some cases the ship can’t dock and we would just have to have a fun sea day. 😀

  15. Take a deep breath and relax. As Keith said, the biggest risk of canceled ports are tender ports since moderate waves or swells can make tendering too dangerous. But even a 20 knot wind does not always stop tendering, depending on the port and amount of shelter from wind and bad sea conditions.

As to docking, 20 knot winds are not often a problem although it can certainly result in the Captain and Harbor Pilot having to truly earn their salary :). But also understand that a 20 knot wind at noon, might be a 5 knot wind early in the morning. We live (during the winter) in a cruise port (Puerto Vallarta) where we have had quite a few unusually windy days (wind gusting over 20 knots). Yet, there has not been a single ship that has missed the port because of the winds or the seas.

    Hank

Thank you for your input! That helps 😀

  16. We are planning a summer 2018 cruise to Alaska. Want to take our 2 adult children along, economically, without sharing our cabin with them. Any ideas on 2 bedroom cabins or suites? We have booked on NCL.

We have an NCL planned for December. My husband and I and our 4 children and his parents. We did 3 total rooms. My husband and I got a balcony , so did my in laws and we put our children in an inside cabin nearby. My oldest child will be 18 at the time. It would’ve been a little cheaper if we had also got an interior room for ourselves, but I just didn’t want to give up the balcony!

We are going on a carnival cruise in 10 days and on this one we got a balcony for us and the kids , adjoining.

  17. I posted a similar question yesterday.. about one port , but upon checking the weather it looks as though every port we are visiting is going to be in the 20 mph wind range.

It is the Carnival Dream leaving out March 25.

Supposed to be visiting cozumel, Roatan , Belize.

Has anyone ever been on a cruise where ALL ports are missed? What is the likelihood they will try and take us to other ports or will they just skip them altogether?

I’ve missed one port on three cruises I’ve been on , but never more than that and our last cruise we made all three ports.

I know it’s beyond our control , but I’m genuinely just curious if anyone has had experience with those

    Thanks in advance!

  18. We will be heading to cozumel, Belize and Roatan next Sunday the 25th. I noticed in the extended forecast it’s predicting strong winds for several days straight for Roatan. Predicted 25 to 30 mph .

Is this anything to be concerned about? Possibility of missing ports or being miserable on board due to bad wind and waves? Anyone have any experience with this kind of wind on a ship?

This will be my 5th cruise and so far we’ve been pretty lucky.

    Thanks in advance!
