    Now for some Cons:

Matt Mitcham was off the week of our cruise and was replaced by Cookie Adams. Some of the early reports were that people really liked him. Don’t count me in that group! He was fatuous, dismissive and completely disorganized this whole cruise, IMHO! He made a point of calling out during the 80’s party about how he was the # 1 Carnival Cruise Director… the day after Matt Mitcham was named the CD of the Mardi Gras! Really, Cookie?

He was also supposed to organize an event for our FB page for about 50 graduates we had sailing with us- provide a cake, some refreshments, have a photographer… nope. Never happened. So he decided to make it up to us on Friday night… there we were, 100 people crowded into the Piano Bar- no Cookie, no cake, no refreshments. Plus we had to clear out in 30 mins because they had another event scheduled in there. When he finally showed up, he was really dismissive and rude. He never spoke to the group at all, he let us coordinate the photos with the Carnival photographer. And then the next day, we found out that in spite of his promises to get us the photos at no cost so we could post them on our FB page, he told the Pixels manager that we had to pay $300 for them!

He also encouraged a bunch of 10 to 14 year olds to show up to play a game of dodgeball with him, when it was clearly posted  in the Fun Times for 18+ and none of the littles were allowed to play. He really took no interest in anyone under the age of 18, as far as I saw! He definitely didn’t work with them to shoo the bullies over 18 off the basketball court once in a while, so the younger kids could play.

I spoke to him briefly and said how amazed I was at how well everyone was taking the changes on our cruise, and that at least next week the people will have been warned before embarking, so hopefully he would have an even easier time with the new passengers. He responded with a really sarcastic tone ‘oh honey they’re not my problem, they’ll be Matt’s issue next week, so I don’t really care’. And that perhaps is why Matt was given the Mardi Gras, and not you!

When we disembarked, he kept welcoming us to Port Canaveral! Like 4 times!

I know a lot of the CDs have tag lines and want to encourage name recognition, but every time I heard his simpering ‘this is your cousin Cookie, Love Ya!’ over the PA, I wanted to throw up.

All I can say is, I was so disappointed to not have Matt on this cruise, and to tell Cookie- you are no Matt!

Food- MDR- staff was kind of mixed- surly and inattentive, happy and very helpful. And the food, which I’m normally a big cheerleader for, was just, meh… a lot of it was cold, and had obviously been sitting quite a while. I’m normally the person who eats in the MDR every chance I get but this cruise we only ate there once for the Sea Day Brunch and three times for dinner.

Camp Ocean- for the 9-11 year olds, it was pitiful how few activities they had planned for this age group. It seemed those younger and older were given a lot more attention and things to do. Mostly video games and even they were not really age-appropriate (too young). Another frustrating thing was that none of their activities are listed in the Fun Hub activities list, which would have been really helpful.

Liquid Lounge- I have to agree with everyone’s assessment of this location- what was Carnival thinking? If you’re not one of the first folks in the lounge forget about being able to see anything half decently. We only went to one show because of this. I must say though that we really enjoyed Studio VIP and I would have liked to see some of the others that I hadn’t seen before.

Disembarkation- As I mentioned we had FTTF. They told us to be in the Liquid Lounge by 7:45 with all our luggage. We were there by 7:20 but it was pure chaos. They had people putting their luggage in the middle section, supposedly in rows and at 7:40 started calling people by rows of luggage to debark the ship. But those who showed up last just walked off the ship well before us! And it was really slow! Normally we’re off the ship and in our car before 8, but this time we didn’t leave the parking lot til after 8:30! I can only imagine how long it took the rest of the folks to get off the ship!

We had Cookie as our CD on a Journeys cruise. He was fantastic! And we get to cruise with him again in October on the Horizon. Looking forward to it.

Sorry but I can't recommend any excursions since we only shopped. You might think I'm crazy, but we took the cruise specifically to shop for larimar. I know we can fly there to go shopping and we get good (employee) flight prices, but we love to cruise.

The Celebrity cruise we took recently had a port change the day before from Punta Cana to Samana. This time I'm hoping to get in some shopping and a tour in Amber Cove.

Love Larimar. Our cruise is to port in La Romana in October. I will probably only get off the ship to see what kind of treasures I can find.

Due to work schedule and a 7 day cruise, we will be flying into San Juan on embarkation day. Our flight is supposed to arrive at 1 and we dont embark until 6. With that said, we bought insurance from Carnival on the website. Anyone have experience with missing the ship and what happens? How does the insurance work? How do you get on your cruise?

Thanks for any help with this.

Having done this itinerary last September, there is no way I would fly in the day of. We were scheduled to fly out of Knoxville on Saturday the day before sailing. Earlier that week, Hurricane Florence started gaining strength and was swerving towards the Atlantic coast. On Wednesday, we received a travel alert from American. I called and was asked if we had leeway to change our travel plans as they didn't know how Florence would affect Charlotte. I said we could, so on Thursday we left Knoxville and flew to San Juan via Philadelphia. For our Journeys cruise in February, it was cheaper to fly out of Nashville instead of Knoxville. Due to an issue at BNA, it was almost 11 PM before we got to our hotel in Miami. On the return flight from MIA to BNA, our flight was delayed due to not having a pilot for our flight home. Too many variables for flying in the day of.

Just got back from a 4-day cruise out of New Orleans on the Carnival Glory.  I went on the Carnival Liberty two years ago and loved it, but was really disappointed in the Glory.  I cruise about once per year, and go to AI's about once per year also.  The Glory buffet was the worst of any of the cruises or the AI's that I have been to.  Food options were not appealing AT ALL.    There was no wok station.  The lines were always LONG.  Chocolate buffet was limited to an ice cream bar and about 6 topping options during lunch one day.  BBQ place only open during lunch.  Stale bread.  Limited salad bar.  Limited kids food options. What happened to the buffet?!?  The pool area was the most crowded that I have ever experienced.  The Glory took away about 1/3 of the pool deck/seating for the slides and kids water park (not in the back of the ships like some other ships).  We had panoramic ocean view and a grand panoramic ocean view next to each other, and there was such banging, creaking and vibrating all night that we had a hard time sleeping.  I am familiar with extra "rocking" when the seas are rough, but never had the LOUD banging noise coming from the ceiling.  It was always not cool enough in my room or many of the common areas.  I went to pick up my luggage tags on the last evening and was told that I had to carry off my bags as they only handed out luggage tabs until 5:30 PM (new one for me out all of my cruises-I have always had luggage tags left in my room or I could pick them up from guest services any time before the bags go out).  Staff were nice but seemed tired and overwhelmed.   Debarkation was a nightmare.  We were on the "carry-your-own-luggage-off express" group, and did not get off the ship until 9:45 AM.  May have been something going on with customs, bur no explanation from the staff.  Although we enjoyed the entertainment, Alchemy bar and Dr. Seuss brunch, nobody in my party is sailing with Carnival again.

We have sailed on the Glory twice--May 2018 and a 12 day Journeys cruise in February. Neither cruise did we experience anything like you described. I am sorry your expectations weren't met.

We were on a 12-day Journey's cruise on Glory while still in Miami this past Feb. just before they moved Glory to NO.  We're Platinum and our luggage tags were left in the cabin.

We were on the same cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line has canceled all upcoming calls to the island of Antigua, according to the president of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association, Nathan Dundas.

Other Carnival brands will follow suit.

I guess our Journeys cruise in February was one of the last of Carnival's port of calls in Antigua. Such a shame as I know for a fact that hubby and I dropped $300 USD while we were in port therem

When I got off, you got on.  That Journey cruise was all the crew was talking about during my cruise.  It started giving us a complex. lol  Actually, when I got off I did a side to side and got on another ship for another 7 day cruise in an interior, so it was 14 days for me.  It was fine.

We (hubby and I) were on the Journey cruise. It was fabulous!

Yes, I know it has a wonderful itinerary, but the main reason I am going this direction/ship is because of St. Lucia.  I fell in love with it several years ago, and it is very expensive to fly from Kansas City to San Juan.  I have been able to go twice, and this may be the last time for me.  As for Dominica, I was able to visit it a little over a year ago.

St. Lucia is a favorite of ours also.

What is your favorite deli order from room service?  I get a reuben on toast, lucky if the bread is toasted at all. Ask for chips and salt and pepper or anything else you want or it won't be there.

I broke my foot on the pier in Barbados last month while we were on a Journeys cruise. For my lunch the next day, I ordered a BLT and 2 bananas. It was delivered quickly with chips, a pickle, salt and pepper. (None of those did I specify that I wanted but was happy they were added). We were on the Glory.

If you have been on the Fascination within the past year, and had a room on deck 5, what would you say this deck would be the closet to, other than getting of the ship? 🙂 I was thinking we were on deck 7, but my TA informed me we were on deck 5. 😞 Maybe it won't be too bad getting to the other decks. 🙂

We were in an ocean view on deck 6 last September and never had an issue getting to where we wanted to go.

I was on the Carnival Glory 1/12/19.  We were notified that we had enough people for the Meet and Greet, however, we never received our invitation information.

Seems like a common complaint.  I haven't read what the explanation is.

We were on the Glory Feb. 16-Feb. 28. Our invitation to the Meet & Mingle was delivered to our stateroom the day of the event. We were out on the ship when it was delivered so by the time we got back to the room and found it, the M & M was already over.

    Hi everyone,

Received a letter from Carnival this morning saying that the stop at Antigua is now being replaced by Tortola on our cruise on the Carnival Magic starting February 29, 2020.

Anyone knows the reason why? Antigua was one of the reason we selected this itinerary (never been) and please tell me the beaches in Tortola are as nice (never been too) 🙂

    Thanks

    Jonathan

We just returned March 1 from a Journeys cruise that included Antigua and Tortola. In Antigua, we went to Turners Beach. It was a nice beach but the surf was very strong. My husband is a strong swimmer but he even struggled there. In Tortola, we went to Cane Garden Bay and loved it! It is a great beach for families with lots of diving pelicans, a gentle surf, and beautiful views both at the beach and on the way there and back. We have been all over the Caribbean and it is in our top 5 beaches.

This is such a great itinerary!  It's a very busy cruise with only one sea day when we did it as Domenica had just recently been dropped at the time.  We didn't stay up late partying as we were getting up fairly early every day for a different port to see.  We will definitely do this again sometime in the future.

We did this itinerary 9/2018 but included

Dominica. 7 ports/7 days, we loved it!!

A few months ago (October?December?) the lift was still out of service from the hurricane.  Is it operational now?

It was operational in both May 2018 and September 2018. We took it both times. The burgers at Paradise Point are to die for.

  15. We were on the Glory Journeys Cruise Feb. 16-Feb. 28. We learned from a fellow passenger on Saturday, Feb. 23 that we had had massive flooding in East Tennessee. He was from one county over from us. We hadn't purchased the internet plan because when we had been on the Glory before the internet was spotty. To purchase one day was $17. We had Verizon's Travel Pass, so we spoke with everyone the next day while we were in St. Maarten.

Question for those who do prefer to dress up on Elegant night.  Does it bother you that people go to the shows (predominately the main theater and comedy club) in say shorts or jeans and polo shirts?  I'm not talking about the dining room at all, just other areas of the ship.

Hubby and I dress to the nines for elegant night. After dinner and pictures

, we return to our cabin to change clothes for the evenings shows and activities.
