  1. Has anyone tried these for a post-Induction treat? They taste like Cocoa Pebbles!

WOW those look great. I have not seen them around where I live. I like the smoked flavor of this brand though. I do have the rare square of 85% Lindts. I am wondering if I would go overboard with the nuts though...

  2. good job everyone. I also eat low carb, and am feeling great. I used to use the diet to lose before I cruise, and would pretty much go off it on board-I always gained the weight back, and did not go back to eating low carb when I returned home. It is not as if I pigged out on sweets-really did not have many-it is just i am sensitive to all starches. This was all a depressing cycle I was tired of repeating.

Anyway-since Jan I have taken 2 cruises and for the first time NOT GAINED. After the second one, I came home to a small weight reduction. (I was less diciplined on the first, eating some carbs in port)

Mexico can be fabulous low carb- we had amazing fresh grilled fish, ceviche, and avocado salad. If there were beans and rice involved, we politely asked to have them held-dishes came out with more tomato and avocado! I have lost my love of sweets, so tequilla with lots of lime on the rocks tasted as good as any margarita. It is very easy to eat low carb on board of course. PLus always using the stairs burns some serious calories.

I love forum.lowcarber. org for support. This has really helped me stay ontrack too. I no longer think of low carb as a way to just lose weight and then go back to old habits. It really needs to be lifestyle. Of course my next challenges will be Hawaii (love plate lunch) and Italy/Mediterranean.

If your weight loss is stalled be careful about artificial sweetners, low carb bars, shakes etc. I can't have any of that stuff or I don't lose. SOme people do ok though. Best of luck everyone in meeting your goals!

  3. We always venture on our own in Europe, Mexico and Caribbean. It does take a ton of research though, as I like to take public transportation-that is part of the fun. I especially love hitting the food markets. Nevertheless we met our match in Tunis, it was exhausting dealing with getting ripped off , or attempts to rip us off, everywhere in city. We are taking a tour to Carthage this next visit.

  4. I know low carb works, but have been doing it very sloppily for years so gained the weight back. Needless to say, I always gain a LOT of weight on a cruise- 5-8 pounds. It takes several months to get it off. I don't eat a lot of sweets but even a few too many servings of any carbs a day does it to me.

Anyhow, just came back from a 10 day where the spouse and I did pretty much low carb.

Notes: 2 desserts in 10 days-a flourless (but not sugar free cake), and a sugar free lemon mousse. I also had one tea spoon bite of bread pudding. This may seem like a lot for low carbers, but when you think how many meals you eat in 10 days, and how many carbs thrown at you on a cruise, this is not bad!

Breakfast for me was poached eggs and bacon and.or turkey sausage, cheese, and perhaps smoked fish a couple of times

Lunch -salads, veggies and fish or stir fried meats/veggies. Lots of fish or lamb and veggies at dinner. Asked the waiter to not even bring out the starch or bread. If I saw it, I would eat it. Cheese plate (no crackers!) for dessert.

had some carbs in port eating local foods (ie conch fritters, crab back).

a few tropical cocktails. Too bad they do not have sugar free mixes available.

The big thing: I got a lot of exercise. Lost count after I climbed 100 FLIGHTS of stairs.I took them everywhere, except when in dinner heels. Long workout on sea days, tons of exercise in port-snorkeling on own for hours, walking for miles, etc.

Result: first cruise EVER that I did not gain a pound and did not feel deprived. It can be done :D

Of course, I still have 15 pounds or so to lose, so will be going all out Atkins to get it off.
