We are exploring this exact same thing, but ultimately we are going to do the wedding package. We are getting married on the Independence in February. The events department can do a VERY basic ceremony for you, and can't provide an officiant, so if you are doing a small gathering or eloping I think it could work. Part of why we decided to ultimately go with the package is because you get someone to orchestrate and execute on everything for the day (they follow the "template"). Doing it through the events department, I would end up being in charge of ensuring who walks down the aisle when, how the music will work, who needs to be where when, etc etc. You'd save a bunch of money using the events department BUT I would recommend it only if you have a small group or a super casual event and don't care about the normal process of a wedding or the stress the day of of doing it yourself. We are doing our Ceremony and Cocktail Hour in the Star Lounge and then did a restaurant buy out of Chops for dinner that night. For dancing etc after we're going to just end up bar/band hopping around the ship after dinner. Totally happy to answer any specific questions you have! We are not doing an embarkation day ceremony/event, and have about 50 guests sailing with us.

Congratulations!!!!!  I am doing almost the same thing for our wedding coming up in April of 2020.  Sounds like you either already did or will soon be getting married yourself on the Independence.  I would LOVE to hear how it went when you get back for your cruise!!!  🙂  Good Luck & Have Fun... -Tiffany

  2. I am thinking of having a big family event while onboard the Anthem OTS. I was wondering if anyone who has stayed in the Royal Loft Suite (or maybe the Owners Loft Suite) could tell me if hosting a cocktail party IN your suite would be an option?

How many people would the lower floor (of either suite) accommodate?

What can the Genie help me arrange as far as drink and food service?

Those suites look fantastic in the online pictures but it is difficult to REALLY judge a space without actually standing in it.

Thanks in advance for any input :)

  3. Hi! I got married on Oasis 4/17/17. I can’t remember our photographers name but he was from India and was a wedding photographer there! He was super sweet and helped us a lot and got some really awesome photos! We didn’t go through royals wedding department, so we booked him through the groups department. Some of the places they brought us was kind of cheesy, the mini golf course, the bow overlooking the boardwalk. My favorite pictures are walking from the mini golf to inside (where there was no sun, we got married at 7 so pictures were around 5 so the sun was high) and in Central Park! But he did let me guide him some places I wanted to take pictures (wanted an elevator pic and in Dazzles).

If you have any questions let me know!

Thank you for your info on your Oasis wedding. I have a question about how you said you didn’t “go through royal weddings”... It didn’t seem as if Royal Caribbean offers an alternative. After reading some negative reviews from people who used Royal Ocean Events I have concerns about using this “middle man” as a wedding planner. How did it work for you, planning and selecting your wedding if not through Royal Weddings?

  4. I’m will be taking my first MSC cruise soon. In reviewing the payment methods, it states we need PIN number for credit cards. Is that accurate? I totally understand needing it for debit cards. I have never needed a PIN number for my credit card on other cruise lines.

I haven’t been on MSC yet either, so maybe someone else can confirm or clarify but... I thought that maybe YOU create a pin # when you set up your onboard account. I think the pin # is for using your key card on the ship. But i’m not sure [emoji848]

  5. On the MSC Seaside in the YC pool area, I have heard that there is little to no shaded areas, other than the cabanas. I heard that you need to rent the cabanas, daily? Does anyone have more info in the YC Pool area... The cabanas, etc? TY
