  1. Thanks in advance. We are on the Conquest Jan 29th and my Sister-in-Law will be our emergency contact at home. I have a very elderly buddy who is in very bad health and would like to just be informed if anything should happen. I cannot see where there is a contact number etc for the ship of how to tell her to go about it. After 20 or so Carnival cruises I have never felt the desire before so need your advice.

    Thanks again.

    Joe

Here is what CCL has to say about it....

  2. I've seen some posts about "birthday" gifts from carnival like free photos, spa time, etc...

Is this a package you purchase at a discount, or is it triggered by noting a birthday on your reservation / DOB for the guest? We were switch from a Halloween cruise to one during my wife's birthday so was just wondering if I need to find this under the gift catalog or is it automated?

18 CCL cruises, most around anniversaries/birthdays. Not one single thing from them...

  3. What do you find on the Carnival beach Mahogany Bay in Roatan? Are there beach bars, restaurants, shops?

Yes there are shops in the port area. Yes there are bars with bar service and food on the beach. Not so sure about restaurants...

  4. We just got off the Magic Saturday. We had Dr. E for our cruise director.

Dr. E was hands down the best cruise director by a mile that I have ever cruised with during my 20 plus cruises. It's worth going on the Magic to sail with him. If any of you guys have sealed with him you will know what I mean.

Funny, I was on the Magic in early November, and I thought at first he (Dr. E) was a pretty good CD. But by the end of the cruise I was more than annoyed by his same routine day in and day out...

  5. Just back from a very nice 8 day cruise on the Magic. Figured we would get the croc but instead we got the strangest gift.

It came in a very nice wooden box and inside was 12 round things and 12 envelopes. At first thought they were coasters.

Turned out it was stationary but were a four inch round circle with picture of unnamed island on one side and other side blank with rather thin envelopes.

Also came with a short pen with Carnival written on it.

Figured we had absolutely no use for it so went to guest service to see if we could get a sub and they said no in no uncertain terms.

Only use we could find for the stationary was last night we put gifts inside envelopes with short notes of thanks for crew and tossed the rest.

Many people were talking about how this gift was about as pathetic as they could get. Even the crocs would be better. Or not.

The cruise itself though was great.

on Magic's 11-5 cruise our plat gift was very nice travel mugs.

  6. Why has the entertainment suffered such a cut?? No live bands?? One guy, one girl......computerized music....Violins??? Horns??? Did I miss something in the translation? One show in the theater? I'm totally confused. Anyone just off the Magic out of Port Canaveral that could confirm Or deny this? Booked in February and April on the Magic, if this is the case we'll rebook...

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Entertainment preferences are subjective, so this is my, and only mine, opinion:

I just got back from the Magic on n November 12th -- two weeks ago. Your friends are correct. The entertainment on this ship was the worse I've seen 19 Carnival cruises.

The main theater only had two shows that I was aware of. The welcome aboard show -- some lame mind reader act pushing his books and CDs mainly, and some production show -- that we did not attend, so I can offer no opinion on that one. Other than that it was the CDs lame game shows... Oh and of course bingo, bingo, bingo...

There were a couple of "cover bands" that rotated among the bars, I can't remember who they were, because they were so bad I couldn't stand to sit and listen to them.

No live bands on lido - DJ only and then only a few times during the seven day cruise.

The best entertainment I found on the ship was the "Dive In" movies.

Sadly, cruising is not what it used to be.

  7. I love what is on the menu, but have to say it sounds better than it looks, I know I am going to upset some by saying that and I stand by it. Part of the fun of cruising is to experience great cuisine and very little here even looks ok. Exception the dessert and lobster!

You're right! I'm just back from the Magic, and they have the American Table menu -- The food was ok, at best. The prime rib was tough, the lasagna was the worse I've ever had. The deserts was so so...

No I'm not a fan of the American Table menu at all...

  8. I've never heard of that possibility. In any event I see nothing to be gained by having the S&S at the cabin and not handing them out at check-in.

Can you say cutbacks, I knew you could.... this time in shore-side personnel. Less people needed at check in since now you don't have to have your photo taken. In theory the lines will move faster, hence they can process the same number of pax, in the same amount of time with less personnel... ;)

  9. We have sailed the Divina twice. The ship is great, and the service level is on par with CCL.

Their website, on the other hand SUCKS!! If you book call them directly, you'll most likely have to call them anyway after website screws up something or other...

  10. Let's do it the Disney way. About ten days before your cruise you receive your RF id bracelet in the mail. Take it with you. scan it as you board the vessel and you are on board and ready to go.

The bracelet could be linked to a photo (passport or any other) that is on file, and if there is no photo then one would be taken at boarding.

The same bracelet would be good for all on board purchases, as well granting access to you cabin.

  11. Trying to plan an informal meet and greet on embarkation day. If sail away (from Miami aboard the Glory, if that matters) is at 4:00, what time is muster? Would it be best to try to meet before or after?

    Thanks for any advice!

I always plan for the first sea-day afternoon for the meet and greets i have organized. Much less hustle and bustle, and more people show up and are relaxed after being on the ship for a while.
