We are doing a Rome to Orlando transatlantic next year and we are wondering what is the best way to arrange flights. Is it better to book a multi city flight or just do a one way to Europe then another from USA to Canada? Also is there any special requirements for Canadians flying back to the US from Europe? I’ve been searching the boards to find any answers but haven’t had much luck so any help or advice anyone can offer is much appreciated.

Not quite sure exactly what you are asking but here it goes - what do you mean by multi-city.  We are going next month to Rome - vancouver to toronto, toronto to Rome. Return florida direct to vancouver.  Booked at the same time.  If vancouver had direct to Rome we would take it.  We travel with air canada.

You are most welcome. Jim and Jules from Beachin rides are great. Small mom and pop that live in napali.

If I may make one more suggestion, their transport will hold all 8 of you very comfortably, and by the time you pay for the transportation to OGG (both ways) it may be easier on both the pocketbook and driver to just rent Beachin rides for the day. I know they do offer tours. I think it’s worth inquiring. Jules will get back to you right away (remember Hawaii is currently 6 hours behind EST). If you need suggestions Jim will certainly help with that too, or just ask here and I’m sure you will get lots of possibilities. Again, just a suggestion, not trying to make things more confusing.

    Hope that helps 🙂

Excellent thank you.  I am in Vancouver so PST.  I will look into renting for the day and touring.  We are in Lahaina for 2 days so on top of everything else we have to have a place to park the rental near the wharf.  If they will come and pick us up from ship and spend 2 days with us and drop off at ship, its a no brainer.  Thanks again, greatly appreciated.

Exactly why I said it was "a bit confusing" .... and I even provided a map to help :).

Pre-covid I rented cars from OGG. It wasn't until two years ago that I started renting from the Halawai Drive location. The confusion was real.

I rented from enterprise last year and budget this year. I can say w/ absolute certainity that neither are open on the weekends at this time. They may have been open on the weekends pre-covid, but no longer. They may open again on the weekends in the future. I rent my cars on a monthly basis and pick up on a Friday to get the 'free weekend' on the back end.

If anyone is arriving in Lahaina on the weekend, and want to rent a car, you may be forced to rent from OGG location, although turo owners might make other arrangements for you to pick up right at the wharf if interested in going that route. If you are arriving in Lahaina during the week, you should absolutely rent from the west side.

I have used both beachin rides and speedy shuttle from the west side to the airport. Beachin rides is a bit less expensive and is private, but  you need to book them long in advance. I pay $125 including tip. I'm guessing uber is going to be more expensive. The bus is a possibility but it will eat up several hours and you will still need to uber from QueenK to the rental location.

    Hope that helps 🙂

thanks for the info.  You confirmed what i know.  I prefer not to go with turo.  As a National Executive Elite monthly renter as well, I will make the trip to OGG and go from there.  I will look at beach in rides to take us there.  There are 8 of us.  Thanks again!

You do NOT want a car from OGG, you will be no where near it. You are tendering at Lahaina and will be anchoring off Lahaina Harbor. See the map below.

Cancel the car at OGG. You want the National Car Rental at 30 Halawai Dr, Lahaina; also called JMH (Kapalua Airport), even though it is not physically at the airport.

Avis and Budget are at 11 Halawai Dr and Alamo and National are at 30 Halawai Dr.

Avis and Budget are owned by the same company and Alamo and National are owned by the same company (Enterprise).

They are closed on Saturdays. I would suggest that before you provide information that you are so adamant about, you check and confirm that the information you are providing is accurate.  A lot of folks will take your advice and will be sorely disappointed.  I can only go with what the rental outlets show and clearly they show they are closed in both locations on Saturday.  I guess if I really want the rental I will drive the hour or so to get it.  Add to the adventure, then ill be on the east side and will continue on the road to Hana.

Odd.  A brief check of car rental agencies on the west side indicate at least several operating out of 11 Halawai Drive (not at the airport) as being open weekdays and weekends.  It might not be a bad idea to check your information again.

As a side note, your ship will be tendering and not docking in Lahaina.

My post said anchoring at Lahaina Wharf.  All my information to date has stated that OGG is the place to pick up cars.  We have booked through National and OGG is the spot.  There seems to be a lot of information floating around as to what is and isnt open when, where etc.  I still have a week to figure it out.  Thanks for the info.  I will continue to check.  Would rather pickup a vehicle closer than go all the way to the east side

  6. My undertstanding is only the airport car rentals locations are open on the weekend.  Depending on which ship you are coming in on, you may have an hour drive to the airport to pick up a car.  We are on quantum anchoring at Lahaina wharf pier.  Nothing is open on the weekend and we have to the airport to pick up our car which is an hours drive away

So my question is why would the Switch Health antigen test be acceptable to fly into the U.S., but not acceptable to board a cruise ship?

We used Switch Antigen to get onto Navigator November 29th and to get onto Symphony December 31st.  No problem either time.  We are leaving Florida on Saturday the 22nd and also have the Switch Health Lamp PCR test which we will be doing Wednesday.

Has anyone flown from YVR to the US and had their Covid test done at the airport?

    Would really appreciate any info.

Also can you order the home tests from the US and has anyone done one of those?

It would be terrible to rely on the airport & either test positive, false positive, or not get the results in time.

Here in BC we still don't have the SDM, Costco, Walmart tests available that is why I'm asking.

we ordered ours from switch health off of the air canada/aeroplan site.  if you are not an aeroplan member you can join and order the antigen tests to home.  they are an at home test, same as the emed ones from the states.  $79 for 2 tests.  we ordered 8 for all of our up coming trips.   didnt want to use 1 kit of 2 tests for 2 people incase one was spoiled, or we dropped the swap etc.  they are also selling the PCR-LAMP test which is the only at home test approved by transport canada/fed govt for renetry into canada.  you take it with you and do it with a proctor anywhere in the world.  the PCR-LAMP tests are sold out but they do have the antigen tests.  for the PCR put you name on the waiting list and they will email you when they are back in.  We received the email last week and ordered some as well and they arrived within a few days.  Hope that helps.  Test and results within 45 minutes.

I think its to satisfy the quick trips people make over the border for a day of shopping or a quick visit with someone. For longer type vacations, I don’t think anything will change in today’s announcement …we’ll have to wait for the news.

Alot of folks fly down to seattle for a weekend for concerts, sporting events, family stuff etc.  So we shall see.

    Hello

just a quick note to share our Westjet experience yesterday.

From the moment we walked up to the check in line to our stepping off the plane, it was perfect.

We flew from Toronto, 9:40 am to Fort Lauderdale.

We tried and tried but could not get our check in done on line so we’re glad we had arrived

early ( 7 am) to see an agent at the desk. As we headed to the line there was an employee there greeting and reminding

Everyone to have their Covid test and proof of vaccination ready. There must have been 6-8 wickets open.

Most people were going to the agents so if your check in doesn’t work on line, it’s simply that they need to

confirm the vaccination and Covid tests.
The security line was manageable and they also had the TSA line open as well.

All in all it was super smooth. For our first flight since Covid started we were expecting a lot more stress and

airport confusion. So we were quiet pleased. Hope this eases any stress anyone has.

    Brockmom

I am so glad to hear this.  I was worried about lines through Toronto.  I am doing WJ Vancouver to FLL on December 25th through Calgary which has always been easy peezy it being a small airport.  We are coming back through Toronto so it is nice to hear that they seem to have gotten into the groove and brought on more people to move the lines faster.  Thanks for sharing,

Just saw the news flash from CBC….didn’t read the article yet, but I’m sure others will chime in. Hope this is good news!

the chatter is it will be for land crossing only which doesnt make any sense.  tomorrow is the announcement day so will just have to wait and hear.

Back then the original FCC was reissued under its original terms and conditions including expiry date or the expiry date was extended until Oct of this year whichever was later.

you would have to call to see if they will extend yours further.

Thanks very much for the info.

  13. Hi everyone,

Quick question.  Back at the beginning of this whole thing March sometime (seems like a lifetime ago), Royal posted that final payment instead of being made 90 days out, would be 60 days out.  Is that still in play.  I remember seeing it, cant find it anywhere and am told by Royal that my info. Is incorrect.  Also, with respect to an FCC which was applied on a cruise, then then cruise was cancelled, I thought they were issuing a new FCC.  Where the original one that was applied was voided, a new one would be issued and has a life till end of 2021 or 2022.  What is the current policy on that.  There have been so many “policies” in play and new ones coming out, I’m getting all kinds of misinformation from Royal that I gave up today.  I will call back tomorrow but want to be able to quote dates and times lines as they came into play from March on.

    Thanks all,

Adding to the west Coast discussion. My wife follows Mario, the Diamond Concierge on Serenade, on FB.  Recently he posted something like: west coasters, see you in May ‘21.  So either somehow he knows he will be coming to Voyager in that time frame or perhaps Serenade will be doing some cruises out of the west coast beginning in May ‘21.

Hi Lee,  Rick just did a solo on Serenade, said Mario was awesome.  Claudio, that itinerary would be an awesome trip for sure.  We are looking forward to being able to cruise again from the west coast.

Just looked on IHG site to check prices for Holiday Inn old Town Sydney for our next cruise from Sydney but was unable to find it.

We stayed there in 2019 and found it very suitable for transfers to OPT.

Please can anyone help by posting whether it has been re branded ??

Saw a hotel which I thought might be it, but advertising as part of the Rydges group.

Haven't used that hotel group before, so looking for information on that and /or another, reasonably priced, hotel close to OPT.

    Many thanks.

So we booked that hotel on July 22, 2019 for our cruise in April 2020.  Another member posted that this Holiday Inn changed hands and is no longer part of IHG.  We immediately cancelled and booked at Intercontinental on Macquarie Street.

I just got back from Next Cruise desk on Allure. She told me the Caribbean sailings for Odyssey would open for bookings in couple hours. The Transatlantic would not be open for booking at that time

    Hi Emmy,

    Thanks for that info.
