Hello friends,
Seems to me this sort of cruise is best done with a balcony room. Which is best on Solstice to Alaska: standard balcony or sunset balcony?
Thank you!

Cabin steward questioned me way I left an old pair of worn out shoes outside my door? I told him in a nice way' date=' that they were left in one of the drawers...He was very apologetic about it.[/quote']
We were on this sailing as well. I had taken to tossing dirty clothes on to the top shelf of the closet. On Friday when we went to pack, I scooped them all up and tossed them on the bed to get organized -- only there were an extra pair of men's underwear! That led to an awkward but hilarious conversation with my partner! "Uh... these aren't mine!"

I received an email this morning with the subject line "This week's Exciting Deals for 2 days starting April 22nd" at 12:44AM ET. Sounds like another X IT glitch.

This is the greatest post I have ever read on Cruise Critic.

Awesome! We were on the exact same cruise last year, and we're going again this Saturday!

Either. What I like to do is book each restaurant individually online to secure our preferred dining times, then have them credit the discounted package amount difference back once onboard.

Shortly after boarding Reflection last year, I headed back to the entrance/gangway to speak to the speciality dining rep. As soon as I rounded the corner, I saw an older gentleman boarding pulling a rolling carryon. He ignored and then (purposefully?) bumped into the server holding the champagne and mimosas, which sent them all tumbling to the floor, shattering in a terrific spectacle. Everyone except the gentleman stopped and stared in silence. He continued to walk, and I can still hear the glass shards caught underneath his roller bag as he dragged it across the floor, never once looking back to the server whose face had a look of shock and disbelief.
Sometimes when I see complaints, particularly about trivial things, I often think to myself "that guy is probably posting cruise reviews on the Internet lamenting the lack of embarkation champagne."

You are allowed two BOTTLES of wine per stateroom.
750ml bottles only? What about 1.5L magnums or 3L double magnums? :)

Somewhat on topic: We are sailing on Reflection in an AQ Suite next week. Will they bring Pellegrino upon request?
-
Bring your own and scalp them to fellow passengers? :D

Anyone going, 35/m Cuban American single, traveling with friends
I responded to this a few weeks back, but I think some of the technical problems Cruise Critic had ate it. My partner and I will be on board, 41 and 33, respectively, celebrating our anniversary.

I'm confused -- when did X stop sending luggage tags? We had no trouble at all ordering them for last month's Century cruise.
We ordered in early February and they never arrived. Many here had a similar experience. I reordered on 3/21 after we upgraded to a suite and they arrived today.

Just received our luggage tags today, ordered Friday 3/21, for our April 12 Reflection cruise. So it looks like they are back in production.

I'm going to break with the crowd and say #1. Here's why:
Reflection is a beautiful ship and nearly identical to Silhouette in almost every way. I assume you are price sensitive as you mention it. Jamaica... ugh.
It's been a while since I've been in high school, but purposefully missing 5 or 6 days would be very disruptive, despite what your kids might tell you. Also, aren't exams usually around that time? Will the teachers be willing to give them early?
#3 will have very, very few people on board that are around your children's ages and 10 days is a long time to be cooped up with the family and especially dear mum and dad (no offense intended).

Just received suite designation. Sky Suite 2221, as aft as aft can be. Panoramic views but a trek to the elevators which doesn't bother us. Anyone familiar with this? Negatives? Deck 12. Reflection.
Well the good news is that it doesn't have a connecting door to another cabin and it's as private as an aft cabin can be, but you may hear some noise from the Oceanview Cafe outdoor seating above.

Right, just wondering if there's a particular stateroom class code to ask for. I will call this morning.
Well, just got off the phone after holding for a half hour and was told the only guarantee they offer is for any suite, with no minimum category. I'm already booked in an Aqua Class Suite (for which I already paid above what W is going for) so I thanked him and hung up. Not sure I want to spend another half hour on hold for a potentially different answer.

The OP said on his first post that he called to ask for an upgrade, you should do the same if you are interested.

Sky Suite GTY for $750 for both of us or a Celebrity Suite GTY for $1250 for both of us
Are there different stateroom codes for these? W for Sky Suite GTY I imagine, but I would be very interested in a minimum Celebrity Suite GTY fare for my upcoming Reflection sailing.

Great review! Which Aqua Suite were you in? We're sailing in April and also booked an Aqua Suite.
-
Great...thanks...that definitely helps...wondering if anybody has a picture of the obstructed view....
This is 6153 on Reflection (a category 2D):

Not to be rude but, quite frankly, a customer who books the lowest margin cabin categories, transfer to a TA (and the commission cost that comes with that) and has zero on-board spend is a customer I wouldn't want either, regardless of loyalty.
If X thinks they can replace customers like yourself with, say, customers like myself, middle-aged dual-income earners with no kids who only go on vacation once a year and, as a result, are much looser with the purse strings when it comes to suite upgrades, speciality dining, casino spend and shore excursions, which we absolutely are, why wouldn't they?
-
Great post, appreciate your perspective. I wish it was one shared by the majority of passengers.
-
Every time, no regrets. When we want formal, we sail Cunard.

I've had a somewhat opposite experience with ChoiceAir for first class travel, which is what we prefer. For my upcoming cruise I priced ChoiceAir from RDU to MIA on AA and they came up lower on economy seats, but were unable to match a restricted first class fare offered on AA.com, instead only offering unrestricted/refundable first class. I booked on AA.com.
Solstice to Alaska: which balcony?

Howdy neighbor. Good point. Depending on the exact sailing, Inside/OV prices are comparable to Concierge when taking into account the current "all in" 1-2-3Go promo + TA OBC so that weighs on the decision. However, if we settle on a date where there is a large difference, perhaps OV is the best choice.
