  1. I purchased a calling/text plan through AT&T in case I needed to be reached. Other than the at sea days or much further from the shore I had good signal to email or text. I didn’t have to worry about data roaming when the carrier switched to a Canadian one...I’m covered for data anywhere in North America.

  2. Is the picture just deceiving because they look big enough to be stemless wine glasses?

I have 5 of the old smoked shot glasses with the medallions on them. Broke one and guess it is not replaceable.

    Yes. They’re small.

  3. I have AT&T and used it on the Golden in Alaska. I’m grandfathered in to unlimited data so I get free data and text and calls anywhere in North America. I connected to cellular at sea and was able to call out and receive calls. The rep asked what ship I would be on because I probably wouldn’t be able to get coverage on certain ones.

  4. Was also on the Golden June 9. Had an aft balcony room on Aloha deck. Perfect location for DH to run up and grab me breakfast every morning. We loved Skywalkers late night and entertainment was good. We won the Hollywood trivia which was hilarious because it was outtakes. I didn’t care for the buffet for lunch, and never ate there for dinner. I did see drips here and there and the smell in one area but nothing horrible. Excellent service and the staff are great about remembering your preferences and your name too.

  5. We took the Golden Southbound Voyage of the Glaciers, balcony on Aloha deck. Great itinerary, decent ship. If I do Alaska again, I would try the Royal. It looks like a very nice ship. And would do balcony again. My husband is a photographer and he loved being able to take photos from the comfort of our stateroom.

  6. We are down to 15 days before our first Alaskan cruise and first cruise with Princess! My husband wanted to celebrate my 41st birthday with this cruise which is so sweet of him because he is not a fan of cruising at all! I have tried so hard to convert him but it hasn’t worked, maybe this cruise will? ;)

So back to my question! One morning we will be doing some scenic cruising through Tracy Arm and I know it will be cold, but I thought it would be a beautiful backdrop for a balcony breakfast. Has anyone done this? I am thinking our warm food would get cold really fast and maybe we will have our big coats on? I don’t know.

Has anyone done a balcony breakfast in Alaska? Should we save the extra money and just order room service? I think our balcony is partially covered, we are in cabin C402 on the Caribe deck.

I guess I have one more question! We have never done the spa before but have a couple of massages lined up. What is the etiquette of going to and from the spa? I don’t know how far away our room is but do people wear bathrobes? Or maybe a swimsuit with a coverup over it?

    Thank you everyone!

We did the balcony breakfast on the last sea day of an Alaska cruise while on the Golden. It was a little chilly outside but the food was not piping hot to begin with.

No advice on the spa. Happy birthday!

  7. I stayed on A708 on the Golden for Alaska two weeks ago. No problems at all. I loved that you could not see my balcony but I could see others down below. I know that HOrizon court was right above us but it didn’t bother us, and I’m a light sleeper.

Sorry I don’t have any pictures but the furniture was exactly the same as the other balconies below and so was the floor on the balcony.

  8. Hello all! We are currently on Golden Princess in Juneau today! As for the negative reports in the last few months...there is definite water coming from the ceilings in various spots and the sewage odor on deck 7 prominade but only near the forward of the ship. We had upgraded to obstructed window rooms and we basically have a full view in 2 of the 3 rooms. Buffet breakfast has been great. Dinner is a little slow off and on but I was nice to relax.

If anyone has questions let me know! The coast guard is doing a full inspection today! Having a great time so far! Minimal rocking of the ship for those worried about motion sickness!

Hope you are having fun and enjoying great weather. We were on the Southbound last week. Are they doing Voice of the Ocean this week?

  9. Thank you! 10 days until we sail..printed all of my travel documents today!

We will be getting off the ship when you board! I will try to post some patters and other useful information for you but no guarantees. I only turned on texting and calling on my phone for the cruise.

  10. Thanks so much for your daily posts! I loved reading them and examining the Patters. We will be on the ship in a week from today when it gets back to Whittier. I’m hoping for some great entertainment opportunities and nice-ish weather.

I’ve been to Rome a couple of times and I remember a lot of walking so I’ll have to think about what to do with mobility issues.

  11. They require you to wear closed toe shoes (I think because the appetizer portion of the dinner is in the galley). Make sure you are prepared. We felt it was a special dining experience.

Good to know! My dressy shoes are not closed toe so I will make sure to bring some that are.

  12. Sailing on the Golden SB Whittier to Vancouver in June 9. We are looking to try to do the Chef’s table. Opinions/thoughts/expectations from those that have done this before. Was there a specific night this was held?n thanks in advance.

  13. Generally, in Alaska it is not difficult. You find a lot of people who have never cruised before and are only on the ship because it is Alaska. These individuals usually don't take advantage of the pay for dining (unless it is included in a promo they booked under). You saw the multiple ads because they are often trying to fill a table to have Chef's table.

While every sailing can be different, I know some sailings in Alaska where they didn't even have a Chef's table as there were not enough interest.

Oh I hope that doesn’t happen in two weeks.
