  1. Hi cruisers,

I hope this hasn’t been asked before — I searched and didn’t see anything relevant.

What are major holidays like on board ship? I’m currently booked for grandeur of the seas out of Baltimore on January 24, 2019, but I’m considering canceling and rebooking for the November 22, 2018 (i.e., USA thanksgiving), sailing instead. Do ships celebrate major holidays? Or are they basically just another day onboard?

(Also, if there’s a better way to switch sailings, this firsttimer appreciates all advice!)

  2. a woman and her husband, who were obviously looking for a threesome, tried to pick me up at the first port, while I was hanging out by the pool. She said they had noticed I was traveling alone and did I want to join them for some fun. We weren’t even 24 hours into the cruise! I just said no thank you and that I already had plans and made my way back to the ship. No idea how they figured out I was alone as like I said; we weren’t even into our second night on the ship. They also weren’t in my hallway.

OMG that is truly hilarifying! And not a situation I would have thought to anticipate as a solo female cruiser, lol!

Next January will be my first cruise, which I’m taking solo. I have done a lot of solo travel, and I live on my own in a major city, so I like to think my common sense is pretty good. I’m not super worried about being lonely: I enjoy traveling on my own, and I’m a pretty big introvert, plus I’ll be seeing family and friends in two of the ports. I’m already looking forward to some restful quiet time by the pool!

My only real dilemma is internet: I want to disconnect (& don’t want to pay the crazy internet fees!) but also want to be able to check in briefly with friends/family every day by text for safety and in case of any landside emergencies. Is there a good way to split the difference?

  3. I hope it's an amazing trip! Iceland is a beautiful country, so I really recommend doing some excursions if it's feasible. The seafood is also excellent, unsurprisingly. :)

I'm booked to take my first cruise (RCI, Grandeur of the Seas) next January. I have family and friends in a couple of the ports of call, so it'll be fun to see them, and I'm interested to see what Nassau is like, but mostly the ship is my destination too: I'm looking forward to having my biggest decision be whether to go swimming or sit in the solarium with a book. :)
