I was wondering something similar lately about hooking up my tablet to the TV so I could watch downloaded Netflix stuff. I sent Royal a private message on Facebook. They contacted the ship I was sailing on and got all the exact TV hookup connections needed. They are usually very helpful! :-)

Good thing I didn't take a drink of my coffee just before I read this, I would still be cleaning the keyboard and screen.
Sorry Op. Hope you get your answer.
LOL No worries! I actually did the same thing!!!! Sad truth!

So if I'm paying $40 upfront online for two of us, will there be another charge in the restaurant that night? Or will they take $40 off the bill? Thanks for all the help!
-
Can some one please explain to me how First Night Done Right works? I'm a little confused. Do you not get to choose which restaurant you want to eat at? You only get to pick the time? And why are you paying $20/pp upfront? Giovanni's is only $35/pp so I'm confused how that works out to getting a 50% discount.

Travel. Eat. Repeat. My words to live by. I'm a foodie, show me to the good stuff. What's your recommendation of the best places to eat in Juneau? Skagway? And Victoria?
-
Was that at Giovanni's?
They also had some sweet red peppers stuffed with cream cheese that were very tasty

No it was in the MDR

Anybody have relatively recent MDR menus for Explorer? Thanks in advance!

Relatively new, however, they don't post all OBC on your cruise planner. I had both some OBC from NextCruise and some OBC gift cards I received as a Christmas gift. Only the NextCruise OBC showed up. I called and asked about the gift card OBC. Was told that was only good for actual on board credit during the sailing.

We had some cheesy artichoke crepes (I believe they were crepes, eek, it's been a year ago) and they were by far one of the best things I've ever had with Royal. I didn't expect much from them to be honest, but they blew me away. Hubby and I got one entree on the side to split and afterward we wished we had each ordered one LOL

Yes, they are all flat panel TVs with HDMI ports.
However, you might be unable to select the HDMI port with the supplied remote. Some have reported success using a universal remote.
Thanks for the info Bob!

Anybody know what kind of televisions are in the staterooms on Explorer? Would like to purchase adapter for phone to TV hookup so I can fall asleep to downloaded Netflix stuff. Wondering if the TVs have been updated to HDMI connections.

Have been to Victoria many times (one of our favorite cities!)--I looked for something a little different and booked the Taste of Victoria walking tour. Starts at the Public Market and goes to many of the vendors that CynCyn mentioned. Wasn't too bad price wise--$49 CA per person.

Where did you book this tour from? That sounds like a lot of fun.

That sounds wonderful CynCyn! Thank you for the suggestions!

We have a full day in Victoria coming up this summer. Looking for any suggestions on something to do other than whale watching and Butchart gardens. I don't plan on booking any ship sponsored excursions. I would like to just explore more on our own. Is Chinatown worth spending time at? What other suggestions can you guys provide?

When we went on our first cruise in 2013, my youngest was 6 years old. We put a note on the door saying she was on her first cruise and wanted to see where everyone was from. I'm glad I brought extra paper because she ended up getting 2 full sheets of 12x12 inch scrapbook paper FILLED with sweet little messages to her written by people from all over the world. It is a treasured keepsake for her now. It also helped her pick out her door from the endless line of cabin doors that look exactly the same!
I love this and it gives me a great idea! I think I'll print out a map of some sorts so people can mark where they're from. Awesome!
-
Do you decorate your cabin door? I've always put a magnetic sticker on our door just to make finding our cabin a bit easier. But the last couple of cruises I've been on, I've really been seeing some creativeness! I love the interactive ones. A white board for people to sign and leave messages, or whatnot. So, do you decorate? I've love to hear your ideas or see pics.

A taxi to the glacier will be a little less than the shuttle bus that is running $45 per person roundtrip. This includes the entrance fee that is $7.00. There is a public bus that is really inexpensive, but it drops you off approx. a mile from the visitor center.
Thanks DancingShoes! About how far is the pier from the glacier?

We used Southeast Kayaks in Ketchikan, Adventure Bound in Juneau for the Tracy Arm excursion, Chilkoot Tours in Skagway for a bus / train combo trip to Emerald Lake, rented a car in Haines and went to Kroschel Wildlife Center, took a shuttle to Fortress of the Bear in Sitka and used Glacier Wind for a whale watching trip in Icy Strait Point (Hoonah).
Hey, thanks for the help JT! Can you tell me more about your Tracy Arm excursion? I'm interested in that.

Hello All,
Long time cruiser, first time Alaska! I'm usually pretty comfortable with everything cruise related up until now. I really wasn't expecting the price tag of the excursions in Alaska. So I'm looking for a little help on how to save.
I was wondering what your experience was with booking direct through excursion companies rather than the cruise line? Can anyone recommend a good company that will actually save me some money?
Hubby and I would love to do a dog musher experience, but $130 a person just to cuddle puppies for a half hour seems really steep to me. Any other recommendations?
As far as Mendenhall ... I've ready you can take a taxi to the glacier. How much does that run? How far away is it?
Does anyone have any experience with ice cave hiking? And can recommend something that doesn't cost $300 a person? LOL ... I'm not meaning to sound cheap but gosh, lol, I just didn't expect the price tags!!!
ANY help is much appreciated!

Great, we have a group of 49 going. What part of the country are you from?
We're from Colorado

we just sailed on her last week, and unfortunately, the MDR food is stunningly mediocre (with exceptions being the Lamb with Mint Jelly (on the Thursday), the Scallop appetizer on Sat (after the 2nd formal night (Friday) - and the lobster of course :)), and the Lobster Bisque on the 1st formal night (Monday) (tho it needed a little more spice).
it wasn't *bad* .. but not *great* either.
I'd highly recommend Giovanni's Table, or Chops, on any nights other than these (or upgrade to the Chops steak and / or full lobster from the MDR menu each night), if you're a foodie and want a great meal
That's not the first time I've heard that and it's disappointing. I've always enjoyed every other dining experience I've had with RCL. Is this singular to LoS or is it a trend fleet wide?

Are you on the March 19th sailing?
YES! :D See you there!

Do I really need a light down jacket for July?
in Alaska
Posted
We're sailing next week. We're from Colorado and used to extreme temps both high and low. I'm only taking light rain jackets, one long sleeve shirt and a beanie. Temps usually have to be in the single digits for me to put on gloves and a scarf. Temps in the 50s are still considered shorts weather where I'm from lol ....I too think temps are subjective. If you're from a climate where you are used to cold, take what you'd normally wear. If you're from a warmer climate and not used to lower temps, take more layers.
