Thank you !! Good to know and yes I will do research. Another poster mentioned legs being frozen and I guess I was nieve in thinking legs would be fresh in Alaska.

You can get fresh dungeness, but not king crab.

  2. George Inlet Lodge in Ketchikan has an all you can eat dungeness (I enjoyed it tremendously when I ate there years ago). Your cruise ship should have 1 or 2 options. Also, if you are going to Sitka, there is a crab place at the new pier - Halibut Point Crab and Seafood. I plan on a yummy crab dinner there. Be prepared, a crab dinner isn’t cheap no matter where you eat it…Alaska, Texas, Wisconsin or at home  image.thumb.png.75b9994fcea2a6319a6ce0a2b0c561f6.png

  3. I’m a little late in joining this post. I feel so sorry for the lost luggage. And not to be callous, but of all the cruises, Alaska is probably the best location for you to not have your luggage. Alaska is so relaxed and comfortable no one will notice if you wear the same clothes over and over. I hope you and your family had a blast in Alaska.

however, what I was going to add for the packing list was…don’t worry too much about the 5 t-shirts and 2 sweatshirts for everyone. You are on vacation and some of the more reasonable “souvenirs” are t-shirts and sweatshirts. Just add an “overflow bag” that folds up really small in your suitcase and use it for all the surplus “souvenirs “ you’ll bring back 😉😉

So are they allowing us to stack OBC? I have Casino offers on my next two cruises (that have OBC) and I was wondering if I can apply the FCC and OBC from my cancelled cruises and stack the OBC, plus stock.

You cannot stack casino OBC’s. I got an email from Players Club.

    Hi Linda,

    Thank you for your email!

We truly appreciate you as part of the Carnival Players Club and the Carnival family.

If you had a cruise booked under a casino offer and want to re-book, you’ll be able to take advantage of our future offers.

Given the nature and number of guests affected by this, we will not be able to secure the offer on which you were originally sailing.

Our casino promotions will be refreshed regularly to ensure we always give you a great reason to re-book a Carnival cruise. Please log on to www.carnival.com/offers to see what works best for you.

    Regards,

  5.  All me crazy, but I recently booked the 4 day out of Long Beach for June 29. It is suppose to be the 1st sailing, so I am hoping it happens. I can’t wait to get back on a ship!  I got a great offer and worst case is I have to use a FCC for a later sailing. If I do cruise in June, that ship will be whistle clean top to bottom and in between!

  6. Mike45, they aren’t going to Catalina. Or were you just saying “any” submersible would be enjoyed by a 6 yr old?

yes, Las Calletas is a little more expensive, but the original post did not ask for “cheap” excursions.  Only ones her 6 yr old would enjoy. Also, Las Calletas was John Houston’s home and he filmed “Night of the Iguana” there.

  7. Puerto Valletta has a great island get away. Las Calletas.  Either through the ship or through a private vendor. It is about a 45 minute catamaran ride to and from the island. The food is awesome and I believe open bar. Plenty of activities for a 6 yr old and mon/dad. Be sure to take bug spray. Not positive about during the day, but those tiny sand fleas sure start biting at night.

  8. Hi 1cruisingal.  I don’t know if you snuck in under the wire and cruised or if you got canceled. But, Catalina has a few fun things, but mainly shopping and restaurants. I had a great time parasailing on one trip, did the inner island tour one time and saw the buffalo, and a friend said the zip line was pretty good. There is a beach shack at the green pier where you can rent a beach chair and umbrella pretty cheap.  You should probably take beach shoes, it is pretty rocky getting into the water.

a lot of people say they don’t like Ensenada, and it took me a couple of times before I enjoyed it.  But, carnival has a pretty new excursion called “Ultimate Gourmet”. The food was great with lots of tequila at the last stop.  This tour helped me get my bearings for Ensenada and I don’t think I need to book any more excursions since I now know the main shopping/dining strip is about 4 blocks from the ship (an easy walk, cross 1 busy street)

Hope you enjoy your cruise.  I can’t wait to get back on a ship again!

  9. Well we had already previously booked the Miracle for our Alaskan cruise so we are just switching over to another carnival cruise, my TA said it was a $50 pp change fee. I think Carnival is a good fit for us and will work out just fine!

I'd find a new TA. I have never been charged for changing dates or ships as long as it is outside the final payment date.

  10. Of the choices you have given, I would also go with #1. And agree with all the posts about skipping Nassau and Freeport.

However, if you could sail on Oct. 11, I would go with the Glory out of Miami.

Cozumel, Mexico; Belize; Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan; Costa Maya, Mexico

Fabulous snorkeling out of Cozumel and Roatan, ziplining in Belize and a fabulous sandy shallow beach for relaxing and having a beer in the shallow surf on in one of the swing chairs at the bar in Costa Maya (or even just staying at the port with the swim up bar and restaurant).

  11. There appear to be personal assumptions by some that most solo passengers are only booking interior cabins.

Some solo cruisers know up front about the 200% (or sometimes less) requirement, and plan accordingly on a wide variety of accomodations. If they are willing to do that, I'm not personally aware of why they would suddenly become 'frugal' once onboard.

CCL is often referred to as the cruise industry leader, so perhaps they'll make some interesting future adjustments (for this small sector of its passenger base) that will make the rest of the industry stop and take notice.

    .

I am sorry if I offended you. I was using the interior/balcony as an example. I in no way meant solo cruises ONLY book interior rooms.

  12. I don't understand how this thread even became a venue for people's opinions. The OP asked a simple question about whether or not Carnival DOES give extra credit... the OP did not ask if Carnival should or should not or why or why not. Why does everything have to turn into a flame war. You might as well just come out with, "What?! Are you an idiot?!?" , because that seems to be the meaning of an answer like that.

Well Becca, since you shared your opinion, I guess it is okay for me to share mine. I agree with BIGDOG. If a single is paying $500 for an inside room for 1 person, but I am paying $2,500 for 2 people in a balcony, why should I not get extra points since I had to pay more? And, it is based on the number of days you sail, not if you sail alone or how much you paid.

  13. We have been debating about only eating at the Steakhouse we are traveling with our DD that is in her early teens and will not eat dinner with us on the cruise but maybe once or twice so $70 a night is not that big of deal since we love the food in the Steakhouse. Just not sure we can get reservations every night. Has anyone done this?

I for one am envious. I would love to be able to eat at the Steakhouse more than once. There are several dishes I would love to have: of course the lobster, the lobster ravioli, the rosemary infused chicken, filet mignon, and possibly the fish depending on the type of fish (if it is salmon forget it, I am salmoned out).

None of us know the situation with your DD. Maybe she doesn't like to eat at the same time as you; maybe she plans on making friends and eating with them most nights; maybe she is a very picky eater. If you are comfortable with her/your choice I say go for it and let everyone enjoy their cruise their way. ENJOY!!!
