  1. The tags aren't expensive. Why wouldn't you get them? If your luggage gets caught in the rain when being loaded on the ship or plane, the tags will stay dry. I read a story someone posted about their luggage getting drenched. I have opened garbage bags and lined the luggage just in case. Their clothes were soaked when they got them.

Years ago I used the clear packing tape. It did work.

  2. Don't worry about running out of things to do. You may find that you do not have to be occupied every minute. Slow down, relax, gaze at the sea--it can be mezmerizing.

Check HAL's tour offers, or look at the port of call boards to look for things to do in port. If you want active tours, there's plenty of watersports in the Caribbean. If you've never snorkeled, try it. The tour at Half Moon Cay is particularly good. Good equipment and guides who are helpful if you need instruction.

Exactly! My favorite part is gazing at the sea, watching the clouds and sunsets.

  3. My cousin lost a very nice camera on board once. Never got it back, even after filing a report. She had left it in the cabin. As soon as she got in the taxi and realized it, she called the office. Someone on board wasn't very honest that time!

We were in England for my sons wedding. After the wedding we went to Italy with friends to vacation. On the trip home to the U.S. I left my camera on the table in a restaurant at Heathrow airport. I realized it on the plane. I cried most of the way home, the photos on my camera were irreplaceable. The flight attendant filed a report and when we got home we reached out to Heathrow, they asked me to describe the photos and it turned out that they had my camera! There are good people out there! They mailed it back to me and I couldn't have been any happier.

  4. If they filed a report, the jewelry would be at Royal Caribbean's offices in Miami, not in some random stranger's possession while they pretend to search for the true owner on random message boards.

Geez, this topic is getting tense. I was asking if the OP filed a report on the jewelry she lost that wasn't returned the reason she doesn't trust the process.

  5. Was told by ship staff lost/found items held for very short time. AND this ship is leaving in few days for Europe. Staff also said MOST items found.....seldom get reunited with original owner. It is MY intention for original owner to get their jewelry back. I will KEEP looking for them - until it gets back to them! Thanks for being interested & I realize you have BEST intention in mind. I thought I would get responses like yours. I also lost a couple of things on board 2 diff ships & NEVER got items back! This is why I am trying so HARD & taking time to do it this way! Thanks again ;)

On a cruise my husband gave me a new engagement ring and wedding band for our 40th anniversary. They came in a large dark box. I placed my old ones in the box and put it in the safe. The problem was that it was almost the size of the safe and being dark and the safe being in the closet didn't help. We looked in the safe when we were leaving and it appeared empty. I thought my husband took it and he thought I did. We reported it to RCL as soon as we got home. They filled out a report. I kept getting email messages saying they were still searching. I then got a call that they were being mailed to me. About 2-3 weeks later. They came from the home office in Miami, I believe.

I don't know who the staff was that told you that. It's a very efficient system. I was totally shocked that we got them back. Thank you RCL.

  7. St. Marteen is a port that you really don't need transportation. When you get off the ship walk towards the left and there are water taxis that will take you over to the beach/restaurant/shopping area. There is a large pedestrian walkway and the beach has jet ski rentals. But, I should note that this was all before the hurricane. You can take transportation to the other side of the island, but we found we wasted a lot of time traveling.

There are taxis to the right when you get off the ship. I'm sorry, we don't have a recommendation for you. Have fun!!

We have been to Bermuda and docked in town and once at the Naval Dockyard. It was very easy to get around there.

  8. People have asked us what line we like best. I feel that each ship can be different. Not necessarily the line. Service, food and entertainment can vary greatly from ship to ship. The Cruise Director can make such a big difference. The size of the ship and the itinerary can make the difference as well. One of the reasons HAL has an older clientele because of their pricing.

For example, a cruise to the Mediterranean is a busy one. There isn't a lot of time for partying and the emphasis on entertainment like a Caribbean cruise. After a full day of sightseeing/touring you can be exhausted. I think it's important to take all of these things into consideration.

The one thing we do like is a relaxed dining experience. When on vacation, getting up early and touring or a beach day, who knows how hungry we'll be or what time we want to eat. We prefer to have more of a relaxed schedule rather than assigned seating times. That can make a difference for you when selecting a line.

Sometimes it's just fun to switch it up and try different lines and the size of the ship. Whatever you decide just enjoy and make the most of it.

  9. One of the joys in Venice is just wandering. We found a lovely strings concert one night in a church. Little bakeries with exquisite pastries, experimental and traditional gelato shops. Ciccheti, or small snacks with Prosecco or a spritz along a canal. There is so much to experience. I would recommend some time for just exploring.

We have been many times and still have not made it into the Guggenheim, but we have visited the Biennale several times and some of the less well known museums.

It is also hard to time things as customs on arrival if it is your first entry to the EU can take quite a while.

    Enjoy the magic!

I agree! The best part of visiting Venice is wandering the streets. No possibility of adding a day or two more to your trip? It would be so worth it. Besides customs, just getting to your hotel can take time. I’ve been to Venice many times and have never been to Guggenheim. Also...Burano is a gorgeous place to visit. If you are able to add time onto your trip, be sure to go there. You will love it!

  10. We walked back down the steps as well. The line for the cable car was so long. Just be sure you visit Oia. I wish we had more time to spend there. It's so beautiful.

  11. We were going on a tour of Spain, we had travel insurance. As we were boarding the plane, my husband had a panic attack (fear of flying) and couldn't get on the plane. The insurance didn't cover it, because they didn't feel it was a "health" issue. We pre-booked the excursions at $500 and lost that too. It was an unusual circumstance, but has scared me with pre-paying anything. I wonder how pre-paid gratuities would be handled if a trip was cancelled. Do you think they would be refunded or lost?

  12. I think #3. Santorini is just beautiful and such an experience. Seeing the ruins in Athens and looking out at the view is wonderful. In Naples, we had a fully packed day and saw so much. People will be surprised to hear this, but we could have skipped Capri. Spend more time in the other towns. Cruising into Montenegro is spectacular...really. We took a tour which included the curvy road which was a little scary. Dubrovnik is a great port, I would like to go back, it was so crowded we didn't get to do everything we wanted to. At the time we were told that they were going to limit the number of ships in port at one time which would be great. Istanbul ports were cancelled at the time and many ships rescheduled ports which included Dubrovnik. You will love it though. So exciting to plan!

We have found that each ship is so different, it can be the same line, but each ship has a different experience. You just make the most of whatever that ship has to offer.

Just saw that it was Corfu, Montenegro. We did not visit that port, I'm sure it's beautiful too, we went to Kotor. I also agree with a previous poster, a smaller ship is a good choice for these ports although I would pick the itinerary that I like best overall. Our last Med. cruise was on NCL Spirit, we actually loved the size and the seating on the back of the ship. It turned out to be one of our favorites.

  14. We may be talking about two different things here. I'm asking about SELF debarkation, where you don't put out your luggage the evening before, but carry it off the ship yourself. We've never done this before but are interested in doing it this time as we need to be home early that day. Even though we've never done it before, on our past cruises I noticed the SELF assist people all got off the ship first. That's why I'm wondering why different times and meeting lounges are listed throughout the morning for SELF assist.

We just got off the Anthem last week. We chose self carry at 6:30. We got on line about 6 and we're in our car at 7:04. It was a very easy disembarkation. We have been on other cruises where there had been an issue with customs (not the cruise lines fault) which delayed things. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time.
