I was always under the impression that it was us cruisers who paid the port fees.  Do the cruise lines pay extra above and beyond what they charge the passengers for port fees?

NCL makes money on the port fees, miss a port for bad weather, do you get anything back, no way, that has happened a few times to me

The cruise has to go to a Canadian port, or a distant foreign port, which I am guessing would be Iceland. The most likely scenario is that it will be turned into a Caribbean or Bahamas cruise.

There are two French Islands off the south coast of Newfoundland, you could pay a visit there and then be legal,

Everyone here is discussing the issue because we already know what the Canadian government has done.

I was addressing what the US government would have to do to waive the PVSA requirement that a foreign-flagged ship must visit a foreign port in order to make a cruise legal. In other words how can the Alaska cruise season be salvaged in light of Canada's closing their ports to virtually all cruise ships.

Who wants cruise ships in CDN waters ??

Can they go the long way around and add a day or two to the cruise ??

My concern isn’t about a FCC.  Like many, I paid for a vacation that cost near 10k for my entire family of 6 (3 rooms) and getting a FCC does nothing to help now pay for an alternate vacation over spring break that I may now have to make over all this.  They just hold on to my 10k?

If we aren’t able to go or ‘travel isn’t advised’ I want 100% refunded within 2 weeks.

    Good luck on that

  5. We live in Canada and have cruised with Pullmantur four times and generally have enjoyed ourselves. We booked through an online company (VtG) but would really like to know if there are other online companies that will book Pullmantur, as we have had issues with our bookings lately.

We don't know of any companies in Canada that will book Pullmantur.

I am CDN and have not found any CDN on-line sites, what type of issues with V to G ?? Sailing Sept 10, from Rostock.

  6. My friend just took this cruise from Colon to Portugal this past May. Theme nights were white night (wear white), gala night (he wore a nice dress shirt), tropical night (Hawaiian shirt), pirate night, and formal night (nice top again). This is from what he remembers and might be few more. We are traveling Europe before embarkation in Portugal, so my wardrobe is going to be limited to nice tops for these nights (or sundresses). He also said that people were turned away for wearing tank tops in the dining room, but shorts were still acceptable (even though the notes state "no shorts in dining rooms"). Hope this helps with the theme nights!

    Thank for the info

    Joe

  7. Hi everyone:

My husband and I are taking this cruise from Bilbao--getting off in Aruba. Would everyone on this roll call like to meet up on embarkation day--or the day after? If so, we could maybe arrange to meet somewhere at a certain time. Maybe to identify ourselves we could wear mardi gras beads? I think you can still get them at the $store.

If anyone wants to do this, just reply to this post and I'll keep a record of our names.

    Doreen & Jim

Hi, Joe from Windsor, count me in, doing Rostock to Aruba, and Air Canada to T.O.

The beads can come in handy on White Night, also.
