  1. I understand your disappointment in what was told to you, but I just want to echo what others have said. Those aft penthouses are FANTASTIC. You’ll enjoy the Butler service and the breakfast/lunch in the private restaurant, and you really don’t need the Haven area in those smaller ships. I find looking at the wake off the aft balcony one of the most relaxing things ever!
    Thank you!

  2. I've never heard the phrase "Haven-like".

I'd have asked just what that "Haven LIKE" meant!

[if someone tried to sell me a yellow metal ring, and told me it was "gold like", I'd certainly be mighty suspicious.]

Describing something as "like X" does suggest that it is not actually "X".

However, the "suite perks" will be the same, and those can make a huge difference. :)

We get a LOT of benefit from the wonderful Butlers. That is, all but the very first were wonderful, and we didn't realize that we should have spoken to someone "higher up" that first time, b/c we didn't know any better. It was still great, but nothing like the other Butlers.

    GC

I used that word not Norwegian. I used it to describe what I actually got verses what I was told that I purchased.

  3. On the Jewel Class ships the Haven is no great loss IMO. Only difference is the Haven courtyard which is very small and on my cruise in May, unusable due to ignorant guests. The butler and priority extras are the real bonus and you have that plus a great view on the aft.
    Thank you!

  4. If you are in a Suite on the Pearl, you get everything except access to the very tiny Haven Courtyard. No loss. You still get butler and concierge service. You still eat in the same dining room as the Haven guests. We prefer the suites to the Haven on the small ships. You are not missing anything. You will be invited to the Haven cocktail parties. And Glacier watching. You should be Happy, not disappointed.
    Thank you!

  5. I'm sure you are disappointed, but hopefully you can make the most of it. I always cruise in an aft penthouse and love them. The balcony will be awesome. You get all the amenities (not on a limited basis) as the Haven suites, except you don't get access to the Haven courtyard/pool.
Ok, limited was used in the conversation. Your input is helpful.

  6. Are you looking at an aft or forward penthouse on ships other than the big ships; ala, Pearl, Jewel, Dawn, etc.? If so, you are in a suite with Butler and suite amenities, but no access to the Haven.
We upgraded to a Aft Penthouse after a Norwegian rep told us that it was a HAVEN upgrade from a mini suite. I called Norwegian to ask some other questions today (22 days from sailing) and possibly upgrade even further when I was notified the the suite was in fact NOT a Haven upgrade but merely has many of the benefits on a limited basis. I decided to book this cruise with Norwegian although I have used other cruise lines out of loyalty to Norwegian. I guess that was misplaced. Future cruises should be on other cruise lines.

  7. And for those of you stating that anyone with a certificate for a service dog is a faker, this is not quite correct. While there is no national registry for service animals, and there is no requirement to have a certificate or even to prove training, many extremely old and established, reputable service dog providers (Seeing eye, Dogs4Vets, etc) do provide certification and do belong to industry groups that provide the standards for issuing those certificates.

These are recognized industry groups that provide excellent training and followup.

  8. Yes, this is one of many stories about "Emotional Support" animals. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/woman-denied-emotional-support-peacock-on-united-flight/

I'm happy to cruise with trained and certified "Service Animals", I'm proud to cruise with fellow veterans that require trained, certified PTSD Service Animals. I should not have to cruise with the Rabbits, Iquanas, Hedgehogs, Snakes, Peacocks and other various types of animals that I have seen represented as "Emotional Support" animals. Charter a ship for a Wildlife Cruise, I would neither book that cruise or complain.

  9. My son suffers from PTSD after serving in the Middle East he has a true service dog with papers from the VA stating that he needs this animal for support. Yes some people do have fake service dogs for emotional support but not all emotional support animals are fakes. I know quite a few veterans that need the support these dogs give them.
There's a HUGE difference between service dogs and "emotional support " animals. PTSD dogs are service animals and they are welcome everywhere.

  10. Oh drat - I’ve been searching the web to get certification for my emotional support iguana, Jack (Daniels) to be recognised as a service iguana. I really don’t know how I could continue cruising if Jack didn’t let me know when the alcohol content of my blood had dropped to such a level that I urgently need to find a bar.
    Lol!!! :-)
