  1. Well, I leave for our cruise in 9 days. Truthfully, I'm scared. I've worked so hard to lose my weight, that I don't want to gain. Somehow, I've got to find the balance between living my life, and staying on plan. I can't worry too much about a pound or two... but at this point I am.

I don't see myself eating WCMC :(.... probably lots of cheese plates in my future. I'm trying to lose a couple of more lbs before the cruise, so that if I gain, when I get home, I'll still be at my goal.

I made it through Thanksgiving, and most of December without gaining. The cruise will be the ultimate test!

  2. Hi all,

Hope you are doing well. I'm 1.4 lbs from my goal. Though I'd like to loose anther 3.4 before the cruise, so if I gain 2 on the ship, I'll feel OK when we get back!

I made a great snack/lunch for myself and my family today, and thought I'd share. Fried Cheese Sticks! Super easy!

Blend pork rinds to really fine, bread crumb like powder, season with Mrs. Dash.

Take string cheese, dip in egg, then dip in pork rind crumbs, back in eggs, then back in bread crumbs.

You'll need to form the crust on the cheese, it does not "stick" on it's own.

Heat oil in a pan, and fry cheese sticks about 3 min on each side, until golden brown. Serve with ranch!

    1 carb per stick

My family really liked these... even my husband who decided to join me on Atkins this week. He'd like to lose a few before the cruise.

  3. OK, here is my Thanksgiving meal.

I'll have Turkey, Salad, Roasted Asparagus and Tomato,Mozzeralla and Basil salad.

I'm also going to order a low carb cheesecake from cheesecake factory. My mom is on Atkins too, so it will give up both something to enjoy, and at only 6 carbs, fine for a holiday celebration!

I need to lose 4 lbs to hit my goal before the cruise. That will mean I'm down 32 lbs since July 6th! Today, as an adult, I bought my first ever pair of size 6 pants. I never thought I'd see the day! Size 6 makes me a whole lot happier than Candied Yams do!

  4. I weighed in on Wednesday at was down 2.4 for the week. I'm down about 23 +/- in 9 weeks. Can't be upset about that!

I've got just over 7 weeks until the cruise. My goal is to loose another 7.5 by then, though I'd love 12. Not sure I can make that.

I'm starting to work out more now. I won't be devastated at this point if my weight does not change, but I tone up.

I'm off to my first Bikram Yoga class in 2 years in a few. 105 degrees for an hour and a half. Here's hoping I don't pass out!

  5. NMCruzzin:

Congratulations on your new Grandbaby! Another reason to stay the course and be healthy! Don't sweat the pizza. I'm sure JOY burns carbs, so you've got to be even!

Back to work again today, and busy as ever. Super strict again today. I go in for my 2nd month check up on Wednesday. Doctor had predicted I'd be down 4-6 lbs this month, and as of last week it was 6.5 LBS. So I'm hoping to tack another 1.5 to 2 lbs on to my total.

  6. So I just got back from a work trip to Chicago. Right after we got off the plane we had to go to a kick off luncheon. I ate the salad, and the chicken. Skipped the potatoes and the pre-platted Tres Leche cake they had sitting right in front of me! The first night we had a dinner at Smith and Wolensky. That was great. I got Salad, Prime Rib, and skipped the mashed potatoes and dessert. No problem there, even though EVERYONE around me had cheesecake and BREAD!!!

The first morning, we went to the hotel for breakfast, and that was easy. Had eggs and bacon. I brought a bar for lunch as work was supplying boxed lunches that had nothing to offer me! We had an event at dinner, that had tapas. I ate a couple of the small beef skewers, some olives, and goat cheese. No problem there.

Yesterday morning, was bacon and cheese at breakfast, and a Atkins bar for lunch again. We had dinner at the Macaroni grill at O'Hare. I had chicken, no pasta and bread.... even though my coworkers when to town on it!

So I weighed in this morning, and I'm the same that I was when I left, which I'm totally OK with. I have my official weigh in on Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

  7. Has anyone found that while doing atkins they can not drink alcohol? I'm thinking it is setting me back because I seem to be losing and gaining the same weight and just not getting any results - wonder if that could be the reason as my eating is on track.

I guess it depends on what you drink and how much. In general, most liquor has carbs. Beer, Wine, any kind of dark alcohol does. If you are going to have something, a vodka and diet soda/tonic would be OK, but you should limit your quantities.

Miller Genuine Draft has 3 carbs. If we are going to an event, and I want to have something, I might order that. Truthfully though, I just try and stay away from it.

  9. Well I weighed in last week, and I'm down 16.5 lbs in about seven weeks, and 21 since the 4th of July. This week's been really good as I've been super busy with an event at my son's school. I'm guessing I'll be down at least two lbs this week.

I like going in to the doctor. It keeps me accountable. I can continue going even after I've met my goal, which is 10 lbs from now. I'd LOVE to lose 15 more, but I'll be happy at 10.

I've got 10 weeks until our cruise. I've got to lose over the holidays.

    Hope I can do it!

  10. Something else I wanted to post here... probably the hardest part of all this. As of right now, I'm 48 hours without Diet Coke or Caffeine. I know this is common sense on Atkins, but I truly have fought it. I love Diet Coke, and drink it WAY too much. If you are familiar with Sonic think 2 or 3 route 44's a day. That is A LOT of Diet Coke.

I'm really trying to be strict this time, for my over all health. Last night, I fell asleep at 6:30 PM, but today, I'm feeling pretty good. Let's see if I make it to 7 PM tonight.

  11. Well I'm a month with the doctor as of this week, and I lost 12.2 pounds this month, and 17 pounds since July 7th. I'm pretty happy with how it's going.

It's 12 1/2 weeks until our cruise. I'd love to be down another 19 pounds, but 14 would be great too!

  12. I've been back since Sunday...they just made me get off the ship even tho I protested!:p

Good to see great progress on these boards ~ we are the only ones who can muddle thru all the diet propaganda & figure out what is best for our particular bodies...even when traveling & out of our comfort zones, there are good, healthy choices to be found. That's what I tried to do on my vacay...did I go off plan some? - certainly - but not too much, & I made mostly healthy choices....so much so that I stayed in ketosis, & only picked up a couple of lbs from Sunday to Sunday!

Whew! So much for the one lb per day theory when you cruise...or, as they say, 'get on ship shape, get off the shape of the ship!' - hehehe:eek:

I am suffering too from symptoms of the ole common cold...first DH picked it up while on the cruise, then DSis started sneezing & hacking...then, when we got home, & I thought all was well, well...I succumbed to the crud too...So, I feel for you Ms Jean...the one 'good' thing is my appetite is down...we'll see how that factors in when I weigh tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow I will see a lower number...yes, I'm sure of it...who's with me!?;):D

That's great that you stayed in Ketosis. I never even thought to check while on board, but what a great idea!

My mom started the same program I'm on a little over a week ago, and lost 6 pounds the first week. She's really excited.

I'm traveling for work this week. I'm bringing Atkins bars with me for Breakfast or lunch, and will figure out something at dinner. Wish me luck!

  13. Well I weighed in again today at the doctor. I'm down 14 pounds total since 7/6/10 and 8 lbs in two weeks with the doctor. I'm replacing one meal a day with the Atkins bars, and am not eating past 6 PM.

I'm not manically checking Keto sticks like I was in July, but I know I'm in Ketosis. I'm so thirsty it's crazy. I'm drinking a ton of water, but can't seem to not be thirsty!

Liking working with the doctor, and having to go for weekly weigh ins. Fingers crossed. If I lose 1.4 pounds a week between now and our cruise, I'll be at my goal!

  14. Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted. I started Atkins on the 6th of July and saw immediate success the first week, then nothing for four additional weeks. I actually gained back two of the pounds I lost.

I went off of Atkins for about another 4 weeks, and actually started back this past Tuesday. I'm doing a doctor assisted program now, and surprise they recommend Atkins! You get a B-12 shot as well each week, and weekly weigh ins. So as of today, from July 6th, I'm down 11 pounds total.

At minimum, I'd love to loose another 21 pounds. In my dream of all dreams, I'd lose another 26 LBS. Though truthfully, I can't remember ever weighing that little, so it might be unrealistic!

One thing I noticed during the 4 weeks I was off Atkins, my skin was not nearly as nice as it had been on low-carb. I guess additional proof it's good for you!

  15. Well I was stalled for about two weeks. Did not lose an ounce, actually gained a pound. I stayed focused, did not cheat, and finally, this morning, I'm down the pound I gained, and lost another .8. It's going slower, but on avg, I'm at 2 LBS a week.

I've got 20 weeks until out next cruise. If I can loose a pound a week, I'll be thrilled.

Congrats to everyone for your continued success. Reading your progress really keeps me motivated.

  16. Well, my weight loss has stalled. Nothing for 5 days now. I'm down 8 lbs in 2and half weeks so that's great, but it's now time for reality.

I'm staying in induction levels, no more than 20 carbs a day. I'm in Ketosis, so I know I'm burning fat. My body fat % on the scale is going down, so I'm trying to just stay positive.

The good news is I have lots of energy, and I'm not hungry at all. I'm not willing to cheat, because I don't want to cravings to kick in. I guess slow and steady...

  17. Congrats to txmomto1!! You are getting the kind of results that most of us 'old timers' on Atkins only dream about now...I think we get kind of 'resistant' as time goes on...;)

I did however, shed a couple of those oopsie lbs that jumped up on my thighs (& Grannies bat wing arms) from out of nowhere recently...glad for that...:p

Atkins should be basically a way of life eating plan on whatever phase you are needing to be on, & it's the only WOE that I am happy with, comfortable with & successful with...YMMV (your mileage may vary)!

Pink, I did lose weight in the past on WW, but you are right, I did get hungry, & there isn't a bear in the woods who would want to tangle with me when I am hungry!! :eek:grrr....fortunately, I never seem hungry on Atkins, the protein & good fats keep me pretty well satiated....unless I am in the unfortunate position of there being no appropriate food available...

BTW, Mowgli is a cute name - a friend recently named a kitten that! (Brought back memories)

Yeah, I've done WW before, and lost weight, but I'm always hunger. I lost 40 pounds on Atkins in 2001, and have kept all of that off. I'm shooting for between another 30-40 Lbs to put me in the best shape of my adult life.

You are right, as long as I stick to plan on Atkins, I'm never hungry. I lost a lot the first week, but this week is more "reasonable" 1.8 so far. If I can lose 1.5 lbs a week I'll be thrilled!

  18. Newbie here. I've been doing Atkins for 9 days now, and have lost 6 pounds. I'd like to loose another 26 pounds, and have 23 weeks before my next cruise. I've been really good. I stay under 20 carbs a day, and I've been drinking a ton of water.

I love Cruise Critic, so I thought I'd join here too! Congrats on everyone's success.

  19. OK, I tried to scan the thread, but I went cross eyed. We leave in March, and it has been almost 2 years since we cruised out of Galveston. In theory, we might be able to board earlier, but the official time is 1 PM right?

We can pre-pay and park at EZ Park, for $50?? Right??? Is there a better option?

I can check in on-line, and print all of my documents ahead of time, right? How far in advance can I do that?

Thanks for answering all my questions.

  20. I would just like to know if there is a sandy beach at Uvas? I was looking at pics on the website and the beach looks very nice.

I spoke with someone from there, and they said they got 10 feet of new beach with Wilma. San Francisco and Paradise are better sandy beaches, but UVAS has better shore snorkeling.
