  1. Its a bad costumer service to not have this info on the english website but here it is in Danish, then you can probably use google to translate it.

    http://www.dsb.dk/trafikinformation/andringer-i-trafik-og-drift/andringer-i-trafik-og-drift/181016-5-langa---aalborg/

From Aalborg it will off course be the Green or Blue replacement bus towards Langå.

Alternatively a taxi from Aalborg airport to Hobro will cost around 1100 kroner.

From Langå to Hobro its around 700 kroner.

The journeyplanner is in english and is always updated with track repairs and other incidents.

Thank you, kind sir. You have been a big help!

  2. I'll update with review when we return in August, but here is our plan...using tours by locals and then Alla tours in SPB

Copenhagen - DIY, Nyhavn boat tour, undecided on plans for morning of embarkation

Oslo - boat tour through islands of oslofjord, Viking museum, fram museum, going to top of ski jump for incredible views of Oslo and pictures, sculpture park

Warnemunde/Berlin - going to Schwerin castle and walk around Rostock

Tallinn - Old Town and the sights around there; might go see some of the countryside and a waterfall just outside of town

St Petersburg - Grand tour with Alla tours; ballet in the evening through Alla tours

Helsinki - pretty much taking an entire tour of the city as well as Suomelinna fortress. I can post all the sights if someone wants to see.

Stockholm - taking the train from Nynashamn to Stockholm Central to meet our guide. Going to Vasamuseet, Gamla Stan, and other things downtown. Closing with a 2 hour boat tour through part of the archipelago before catching train back to port in Nynashamn.

We like using guides so we can receive a better understanding of the history/culture. Oslo, Helsinki, Tallinn you can easily DIY but we opted for locals and customized the itinerary. Recommend Rick Steves Baltic ports book. It's really good - full of detail.

  3. There is a Intercity Lyn train at 05:52 and a intercity train at 06:00 but both of them are probably to risk to try to book.

The ICL at 06:52 or the IC at 07:00 is more realistic to reach.

It takes 17 minutes by car from Oceankaj to Hovedbanegården (København H)

The difference from the lyntog train to the regular intercity train is only 25 minutes in travel time.

Also there is track works so the train ends in Langå so you have to take a replacement bus from Langå to Hobro (30 minutes travel time) or get your relatives to pick you up in Langå.

The 06:52 departure is in Langå 10:13 and the 07:00 departure is in Langå 10:47.

But its very simple, the replacement bus you have to take only stops in Hobro on the way to Aalborg.

They recommend to reserve a seat but that can be done at the train station but allow yourself time to get a ticket.

And you can store luggage at the luggage rack above your seat and in between the seats that face opposide each other as well.

At Nyhavn you should try out Nyhavns Færgekro for good seafood.

Mange tak! This was most helpful. Transferring to the bus in Langå would have been a surprise.

Do we need a separate ticket for the bus or is that covered when we purchase the rail tickets in København H? Also, I assume we take the bus back to Langå on our return trip to København.

    Your restaurant recommendation sounds delicious!

  4. Danish Viking/others - if you have a few minutes, I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments on these questions:

    1. What is the fastest way to get from the Oceankaj port to Central Station (Kobenhavn H)? This is on Friday, August 17. I assume taxi?

    2. Our ship docks at 5 am, any idea what a reasonable time is to expect us to arrive at Central Station? We are going to Hobro for a family wedding and would like to get there asap for pre-wedding festivities.

    3. It looks like my wife and I each need 2 tickets - 1 for the train and 1 for the seat reservation? We will purchase at the station to afford us maximum flexibility...no pre-purchase. Also, no food/drink available on the train...must bring your own?

    4. Is there plenty of storage for luggage on the trains? We will have 2 large suitcases and 2 small carry on bags.

Also, pre-cruise we arrive a day early. We were thinking about catching a relaxing canal tour in Nyhavn and eating at a restaurant in Nyhavn after the tour. Any restaurant recommendations or suggestions on alternate activities? Nothing too strenuous as we will have just arrived from the US. We will likely try to see a few sights the morning of the next day too before heading to oceankaj to board. Any suggestions/must see locations?

  5. While we are no fans of the downtown hotel options there is no way we would recommend that anyone stay out by the airport...unless they were catching an early morning flight. Spending one or more nights in a decent city hotel is much more convenient as a base to explore the city. We really liked being within walking distance to many places...and especially our favorite little restaurant (Brasserie Degas). After a night on the town the last thing we want to do is take a train all the way out to near the airport.

    Hank

We are staying at the radisson blu. Not ideal, but close enough that the metro/train can quickly get us to most parts of the city.

After doing some research, I think the best option for the day we arrive is to take a relaxing boat ride from nyhavn and grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants there.

  6. We are new to cruising, so please be patient with the silly questions...

Check in time is between 1-5 on Aug 6 (Regal Princess). Sail time is set for 6. We arrive in Copenhagen the day before just before noon and would like to see some of the sights that day and possibly on embarkment day.

Is it better to board early or late?

Also, may have made a mistake when selecting room. We are on the marina deck (m326) and it appears there is a bar immediately above us on the lido deck. Has anyone stayed in that area of the ship before? I'm hoping with how port intensive this trip will be means people will be going to bed early! Haha :) If not, won't make that mistake again...live and learn.

  7. Good information. Glad princess got this figured out as we will be on the Aug 6 cruise. I called a couple weeks ago because there were no internet packages showing up for us to book online and the princess rep finally figured out that the Regal was in the middle of switching packages. This package looks MUCH better than what was advertised before. Unfortunately, both wife and I will have some work to do while on cruise.

  8. Sounds like we are on a similar cruise except we also port in Oslo and Warnermunde/Berlin.

We are doing the Alla 2 day grand tour in SPB plus a ballet in the evening. That tour seemed fantastic...wife excited for ballet.

Stockholm does dock in Nynashamn. From reading many suggestions, the fastest way to Stockholm (if you are DIY) is to take the train. There's a lot of info on the Baltic ports board if that's what you want to do...with explicit instructions for the train. We are trying to customize a tour with Alla. Their group tour cuts out too much time.

For Tallinn and Helsinki, I was happy just hoofing it. Wife wanted a guide so we'd get more of the historical/cultural flavor. She's probably right. Found guides on tours by locals and very reasonably priced.

I can't give you a review because we've never used either Alla or tours by locals before, but that's what we are doing.

  9. We are doing a Baltic cruise on the Regal Princess from Aug 6-17. I plan on writing a detailed review and posting it on cruise critic since people have been helpful to this newbie!

    The ports are:

    Copenhagen

    Oslo

    Warnemunde/Berlin

    Tallinn

    St Petersburg (2 days)

    Helsinki

    Stockholm

    Copenhagen

We chose this one because the itinerary is incredible. Good luck...Hope to have a review up by Aug 20something detailing the adventure!

  10. Can purchased OBCs be used at the casino or should I purchase casino credits? It seems purchasing OBCs would make the most sense if allowed to be used at the casino since we would have more flexibility to use for other things as well.

Trying to avoid what I am guessing are large ATM fees as well as flying to Copenhagen with a wallet full of cash.

Also, are OBCs and/or Casino credits that are purchased refunded at the end of the cruise?

    Thanks!

  11. Since this is my first time cruising with Princess, it is obviously my first time using EZair. I thought it was great...

    1. I generally book straight through delta and redeem award tickets for vacation travel.

    2. Business class roundtrip from HSV-CPH was about $800 cheaper per ticket than orbitz/Expedia/etc. It was also a significantly better value than redeeming an award ticket.

    3. Immediately after booking through EZair, I logged into my skymiles account and linked the reservation. It was available within minutes.

    4. I made seat reservations through EZair, but modified via my skymiles account.

    5. It is probably just habit, but if ticketing through a 3rd party, I always go to my delta account to review. First hand info is always better than second hand! :)

Maybe I was lucky and happened to catch everything at the right time, but for a single experience...I really like EZair and I will continue using them going forward.

  12. Thank you for all of the responses! :)

We aren't buying train tickets early so if there are unforeseen delays our trip won't be impacted. We will purchase once we arrive ar Central Station (Kobenhavn H, I think).

Sounds like the best way to get from the oceankaj cruise terminal to Central Station is via taxi (due to luggage). Princess made it sound like the taxi wait would be 1-2 hours, but it seems that is likely not the case. We are also the first cruise to port that day so I would think that helps. We would use a princess transfer, but they told me only to airport or hotel.

It would be fantastic if we can make it to Central Station by 0730, that way we can be in Hobro no later than 1200-1300. Have plenty of time to freshen up, visit with family, and maybe nap before the festivities that evening.

Thanks again and whoever suggested the Baltic message board...thank you. I will contact Danish Viking for more detail. He has a thread specifically for Copenhagen.

Excited...just over 1 month out. Never thought I'd have the opportunity to visit Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin, Tallinn, St Petersburg, Helsinki, and Stockholm. Incredible list of ports....

  13. We disembark on Aug 17 in CPH. We are then traveling to Hobro, Denmark, via train, for a wedding.

What is the best way to get from the port to Central Station?

Also, ship port at 0500. What is a reasonable expectation for the time we will be off the ship and through customs?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!
