Yes first day 14 May 2022 on the Caribbean Princess during embarkation, used crew chat and it was sorted out while we were having lunch in the MDR.  They also gave us $50 OBC for our inconvenience.

    Cheers

We had exactly the same problem on the first day mid-afternoon and it was sorted out by dinner.  However we didn't receive an OBC for that problem or when it re-occurred on the last day and lasted until we were off the ship.   Clearly I need to improve how I register my complaints.

  2. On our recent cruise, we spent the last day with a non-functioning, overflowing toilet.  Apparently about 200 cabins on the Caribbean Princess were affected.  This was my 11th cruise, but the first time I had experienced such problems.  It was blamed on people flushing inappropriate items, namely masks.    I'm wondering is this a common occurrence?  Have I just been lucky up til now?  My husband is somewhat reluctant to book another cruise after this, so I thought I would try to find out just how common plumbing problems are.  Also are some ships more prone to plumbing issues?

  3. I got my test on Wednesday for a Saturday May 14 cruise because I was worried about getting my results back in time.  Previously when I had gotten a PCR test, it took 48 hours before I got my results.  This time it took 24 hours.  I think more people are using at home tests and not so much the PRC tests.  It was much easier to make an appointment this time around.

  4. It's some hors d'oeuvres and you can get discounted drinks, if you don't have a drinks package.  On the Caribbean Princess last week there were about 1,000 platinum and elite cruisers.  We went every night and never saw more the 20 people there.  It was held from 5-7 pm, so it's somewhere to stop in before dinner.

I was on the Dolphin deck and did not have a working toilet for three days, after that it was only good for one flush. Reported the problem to guest services everyday but they had an “I do note care attitude”, got a $5O onboard credit for our troubles😂 other guest on the same floor had the same problem.

I'm really appalled by Princess's disregard of this problem.  Not having a working toilet for 3 days of a 7 days cruise seems to me like you should get 50% off of your cruise fare.  I think I was in your situation, I would have tried to get moved to a different cabin, even one in the covid wing.

Not trying to hijack this thread but can anyone tell me what crew chat is? I've been reading about it on these boards and it seems helpful but no clue what it is--part of the Medallion app?

    Thanks.

Yes it's part of the Medallion app.  I'm not a fan of the app.  I couldn't get most of it to work for me prior to our cruise.  It worked better on the cruise after I deleted it and downloaded it again.  It took all day for it to download.

  7. I'm back today from a 7 day cruise on the Caribbean Princess.  There was very little mask wearing.  We wore masks in the theater and whenever we were in a small crowded space.  I think the only way to be complete safe on a cruise is to only eat and drink outside or in your cabin.  We're feeling fine now, but there was a lot coughing on the flight home.  We wore masks but very few people did.

Do you mean all cabins starting with #7 had this problem?

Yes, according to my cabin steward.  We were in E725.

I used to crew chat to report the problem and got a response of yes we know and we're working on it.  No follow up, no updates and no apology.  I asked where the closest public working toilet to my cabin was and never got an answer.

  9. I'm just off the Caribbean Princess.  We had a great cruise until yesterday.  Our cabin had plumbing issues.  The toilet backed up and overflowed.  Our cabin steward told us that all of the 700 cabins on all floors on both sides of the ship had problems.  Supposedly the problem was solved last night, but we were not informed of that until we were walking off the ship.  Right now I'm not remembering any of the good parts of the cruise, only last nights plumbing problems.  Good luck to anyone staying in the aft portion of the ship.

  10. I'm really enjoying reliving my Panama Canal cruise thru your postings.  It's been about 10 years since my Panama Canal cruise which is my favorite cruise on my favorite ship, the Coral Princess.  The cruise is a great mixture of port and sea days.  The ports are a nice mix of beach, nature and history.  Unfortunately the cruise now has one less port than when we went.  Our cruise stopped in Cartagena, which was very interesting.  Thanks for doing the live report.  I've been following with interest as I'm getting on CB when it reaches Florida.

  11. Despite all the complaints and warnings about the Medallion app, it didn't occur to me to screenshot the reservation.  I'll go to the Crown Grill when we get on the ship, but I'm not expecting anything since I'm on the May 14th Caribbean Princess sailing which is 90% full.  Thanks for the advice.

  12. I left a new top that I had just made for the trip in a hotel room in Feb 2020, and had exactly the same result with finding it.  I think the problem is the outsourcing of lost and found.  In my experience, outsourcing is used because it's cheaper and cheaper equals very poor service.  I doubt that this third-party app Chargerback has ever returned anything to anyone.  It just gives somewhere to make your claim.  I'm still upset about my lost item, so I completely understand your frustration.

  13. I thought I booked the Crown Grill for my upcoming cruise, but when I checked the app it's not there.  Now I can't reserve at any time before 9:00 and even when I try to reserve that, I keep getting an error.  I haven't told my husband yet, because he will very upset.  He loves going to the steakhouse on a cruise.  Is there any hope of getting a reservation after we get on board?

Husband is a bit of an extremist in his keto diet

he picks out the onions and wont eat carrots or peas for instance

only fruit he has eaten in years are a few berries

i wish he was more moderate in his diet

After this cruise ends i continue the next day for a 6 day and an 8 day B2B on Celebrity Equinox

retired in December and last minute deals combined with long  planned cruises have added up to 7 cruises in 8 months !

from 4 days to 18 days in length

    and on 4 different cruiselines

Never dreamed this would be possible for me

I'm worried about what my husband will eat on upcoming cruise. He's much more moderate than yours.  He eats peas, carrots, onions, most fruits, except bananas and pineapple.  But all of the entrees in the MDR seem to feature rice, potatoes or pasta.  We may need to stick with the buffet.

  15. It's been a while since we've been to Alaska, but another consideration is that we found food to be much more expensive in Alaska.  You really can't compare the cost of the meal plan to restaurant costs where you live.  Between most food having to be shipped long distances and tourist businesses needing to make a year's earnings in a few months, eating in Alaska in comparatively expensive even in chain fast food places.

  16. I'm so happy that Princess is returning to Galveston.  My first cruise was on the Grand Princess out of Galveston.  The Houston port never made any sense.  It had more weather problems and ship channel traffic issues than Galveston.  It was too far to the Gulf, had no infrastructure for tourists, and was in an industrial zone.  The only thing in its favor was distance to the airport, but there are so many people within driving distance to Galveston that I can't believe most of the people sailing out of Texas don't drive.  I was planning a Royal Caribbean cruise out of Galveston for Feb on the Allure of the Seas.  Now I'll have to reconsider.

A year ago, final payment was due on our June Caribbean Princess cruise and we were debating cancelling.  The issue was an aging pet that we didn't feel good about leaving.  The final payment was push out a month, delaying the decision, and then pushed out again.  In the end, it was a sad summer - no cruise and the pet went over the rainbow bridge in July.  Hoping for a better summer this year.

  18. My first choice would be the Coral Princess.  It's my all time favorite ship.  I love the layout and size.  Second choice  would be the Grand.  I wouldn't sail on the Royal.  The lack of a promenade deck is a deal killer for me.  And then when you consider the additional passengers and the smaller balconies, the Royal seems a really poor choice for Alaska.
