  1. @JazzyV I don't want to butt in but have you considered that one of your medications could be causing dizziness/vertigo. I was having awful muscle aches and went to so many doctors for it and then my DH said to stop my crestor to see if they went away - I had been on it for years with no issues. I stopped and the muscle aches all disappeared. He then said to restart it after 2 weeks and see what happens - they came right back after a week - so it was not arthritis, not anything else - just the drug. So many drugs now cause side effects that now that is the first thing I consider when something 'new happens'. BTW my DH. is a retired doctor. @StLouisCruisershave a safe trip and Happy Birthday to your DH. @Kazu. I hope you feel better soon and good luck on your house sale and your move. Sorry to hear about more medical issues and hope they resolve w/o too many additional issues. Happy sailing to those on cruises.
  2. @RMLincoln We were there as well and did the ship tour to L'anse aux Meadows. They used old school busses. In town there are a few stores to walk around and some craft places. As @StLouisCruisers said I don't recall seeing any taxies or private tours offered at the port. There is one taxi company there- from what I read they will drive you to see the sites - it is Town Taxi phone # 709-454-3500. I don't see a web site. There seems to also be one car rental place as well. Hope this helps.
  3. IMHO Vista is not worth it - only real difference is where the couch is and you get binoculars which you can bring yourself if you think you will need them.
  4. @marshhawk One place we have wanted to visit but haven't gotten to yet is Great Smoky Mtns. National park. It doesn't look too far from you by car. There are loads of cabin rentals there on the two web sites that I can't name here. Just a thought. We are so happy to be back home from our long cruise and then the visit with our grandkids traveling down the NE coast. We did enjoy it but there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed. We booked a very short cruise, for November, on Royal Caribbean with our grandkids to the Bahamas - by the time we unpack it will be over. Then we have a nice cruise to the Caribbean on the Eurodam this winter - and for us, that just means a short drive to the port. We also planned a Xmas trip to St Petersburg. I want to visit the Dali museum and a week at a gulf beach with less waves sounded wonderful. Usually our kids visit for Xmas but this year no one is coming. It is interesting that in Fl after Xmas the rates go way up for the entire gulf coast - we think it is because the snowbirds all come down after the holidays for the 3 months of winter. I enjoy reading the daily every day but I don't post much. I was sad to read about all the issues with so many people here and of course the loss of Sam - so hard to lose a pet. Thank you to all who post here.
  5. I am allergic to most of the perfumes in laundry detergent. On the laundry ticket I wrote no perfume, cold water and air dry on almost all of my items and never had an issue. I think you will be fine but I do suggest you try only one of two items before giving them an entire wash. I also bring my own detergent to wash items in the sink. The shower has a clothesline.
  6. I assume that is correct but others have commented on this who are taking the same cruise as you. I suggest you look at your roll call for more information.
  7. I did say that this only applied if you are coming in from a foreign port - so no I don't think if you are going from the US to Bar Harbor this will impact you.
  8. We were on the Zuiderdam on the June 29th cruise. The issue with Bar Harbor was that US customs had every person show passport and ship ID. If you didn't have a HAL excursion you were given any number and for us we didn't get cleared until after 12 PM, and we weren't in the last group. Many people missed their private excursions due to this. I believe if you had a HAL one you got priority and were off much quicker than the rest of us. So if you are coming in from a foreign port keep this in mind.
  9. We used Saga for these tours and both worked out very well for us. https://sagatravel.is/. We had some issues with a meet up point and Saga's driver drove to get us. I would use them again. They were also wonderful when we had to cancel our cruise last summer, we moved our reservations for the excursions to this summer and they kept the same price.
  10. We always do the aft cabins on deck 4 as well on the Rotterdam. The only time we ever heard noise was when they had the wine talk in the dining room right below us and the microphone was very loud. It only went on for about 3/4 hour during one day. We did call guest services to let them know and we never heard any noise again.
  11. So sorry to hear about @StLouisCruisersissues with their flight home. We are heading to New Hampshire to visit our DS, DIL and our grandchildren so no flights for us today. Sorry to hear so many friends and family are not doing well. Bon Voyage to those heading out on cruises today and for Brayden enjoying Maine. The weather there and here is beautiful.
  12. @StLouisCruisers sending healing thoughts to Ren. We are enjoying the cruise and glad to be in some warmer weather. @marshhawkso sorry to hear about the debacle with your DH. I really don’t understand what is going on with medical care or should I say not care today. Thank you for the daily.
  13. Yes I did know this - our family was one of the ones exiled from Spain and my grandparents spoke Ladino. My maiden name traces back to the RaDak.
  14. We are back on board after a full day excursion today. It was wonderful and we saw so much with our tour. It was such fun meeting Sandy yesterday. @StLouisCruisers - her cross stitch is incredible and she showed me pictures of all her other ones as well. I was amazed. Jacqui, @kazu sorry to hear you are in so much pain but glad the doctor figured out where it is coming from. I hope the surgeon can schedule you sooner vs later so that you get relief from the pain. Beautiful pictures of Rhodes. We visited there as well but all the pictures are on my husband's computer. We have similar pictures of the synagogue which we also visited - in fact the wall of names listed my maiden name. There were also pictures of my distant extended family on the wall - the men all wearing their fezzes since they were mostly Jews from the Ottoman empire who migrated to Rhodes. After we finished taking all the pictures another couple came up and took the same ones as us -standing before the exact same pictures - it turns out we had the same family history only their family ended up in Mexico city. My grandparents actually had dinner at their grandparents home when they visited Mexico City. It is truly a small world. I hope everyone has a good day.
  15. Happy Canada day to our friends in the north. I am looking forward to visiting the beautiful Canadian ports on this cruise. @StLouisCruisers sorry to hear your husband has a cold. We hear lots of sneezing and coughing. I put on my mask at any crowded events. I like all of the Mark Twain quotes. I doubt I will ever get to Japan so thank you for the pictures. Today we did a wonderful private excursion. Luckily it was just cloudy and very windy. Here is a picture of the lighthouse on one on the islands we visited near Alesund. You take a number of tunnels to get there and according to our guide when first built it was the longest undersea tunnel in the world.
  16. We did this tour today and it was wonderful. You see the entire city and also some communities that are traditional fishing communities, along with the lighthouse. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we would highly recommend this tour. Contact information is at https://royalturreiser.no/
  17. Hello everyone. Just a quick post. We are packing up for our move to the Zuiderdam tomorrow. We did not have any rain this entire cruise. The captain joked that we should all stay on board so the good weather continues. The forecast was for rain every day on the long term forecast and each port we went to the forecast changed to sunny and warm. Now I can only hope it works on our next cruise since rain is predicted every day. I hope everyone had a good day and that all are well. So glad to hear that those with procedures are on the mend. A picture of the sunset tonight on our way to Rotterdam.
  18. Thank you for the daily. Our good weather luck continues for the Rotterdam . It was supposed to rain but the forecast changed to sunny and 70 today. The port view is very industrial. I hope everyone is feeling better today and I hope @Vict0riannsurgery goes well today.
  19. Good afternoon from the Rotterdam. The weather was partly cloudy and warm and as we sail out of the fiord, in the sun, the temperature reads 82F. We are supposed to have some rain and fog tonight as we sail to Kristiansand and tomorrow we have sun again and warm temperatures with some rain in the late afternoon. We have been told that we are seeing a Norway that most don’t get to see. Sending happy celebrations to all celebrating. Sorry to hear about the injuries to biceps. I think bubble wrap should be required for all. Wishing everyone a good day.
  20. The hot chocolate is also good and not on the menu. There is a charge for it.
  21. On the Rotterdam today we were told it was Seafarers day and what it means. We have been to the port but only have pre digital pictures. My DH lives real onion soup and so far has had it for his appetizer every day at dinner. Jacqui what wonderful pictures of you and Jose. @Cruzin Terriouch about your arm. I hope you get some answers from your doctor at the Mayo Clinic. Thank you to all who post in the daily. Here is a picture of Alesund today . Another beautiful day and warm weather. Now it is cloudy and looks like rain for tonight while we are at sea. Hopefully tomorrow we will have no rain.
  22. Happy birthday to @Sharon in AZand to @StLouisCruisersDD. @kazu Happy Anniversary and I hope your memories give you comfort today. Terry so sorry to hear about Tana. It is wonderful that you all have such a caring family who are there for each other. Beautiful day today on the Rotterdam. We did a Hal excursion and lucky we did as road construction delayed our return trip. The ship was held and the lido remained open for about 200 plus guests .
  23. @0106 sorry about not remembering if it is you who asked the question. The issue is going from one part of the huge delta terminal to the other part. JFK only has busses and the wait can be as long as 20 minutes for this bus to get you between terminals. Some domestic flights on delta leave from the same terminal as where the international flights come in but no guarantee of this. It is crazy how airlines give you connections that are barely doable. I haven’t read the daily. Exhausted from a long travel day. I hope everyone is okay.
  24. Okay having now done a connection to delta at jfk no way you can make a domestic flight from international arrival in one hour. International flights come into delta terminal b you then need to collect your luggage go through customs and then tsa and then either walk over one mile or take the bus to terminal a. We did it without going through customs or tsa with wheelchair priority and it took about 1 hour. I hope everyone is doing okay and thank you for the daily.
  25. @Cruzin Terri I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon.
