  1. Sadly, our 40th anniversary cruise in April 2021 has been cancelled by Celebrity. We were looking forward to a first time on Apex.  Also told that Celebrity is changing to an all inclusive format and who knows what that will mean to prices.  If I want to pay for all inclusive and the higher price, there are a lot of smaller ship options.

  2. Sounds feasible and I guess they’d have to change the floor or the curtain would hang over the shower threshold & you’d have a very wet bathmat

No need to change the threshold on the shower. You see this in mid to upper end hotels that upgrade their bathrooms while leaving a tub/shower combo in place. You use the bowed out curtain rod and then either weight a longer shower curtain or use one with magnets on the bottom. Depends if the threshold is aluminum or iron-based. The bottom stays tucked into the shower pan and the top gives you more "elbow room."

  3. Having read the review, I would also say that this was not our experience on the Quest in July.

One thing I would ask is whether you took your OBC issue up with the head of Guest Relations or with Philip Herbert, Hotel Director. I’m sure one of them would have tried to sort things out for you. I also wonder if you provided feedback on the feedback form you get after a few days. In our experience any issues raised on this form have always had a very quick response whichever Azamara ship you’re on.

You’re right about the shower, it is small. I know Azamara have looked at changing from a curtain to a door but have found it impossible to do so, given the size of the bathroom.

All items were reported on the survey form. Didn't hear back on a single issue from any onboard staff other than Guest Relations saying they would look into them and a message that the OBC was resolved a couple of days before the end of the voyage. So, we had very little time to use up the remaining $300. We didn't search out senior staff as it should be Guest Relations job to do that and then senior staff to respond.

  4. I think my e mail came about 2 days after my review was posted.

I agree about the shower curtain, but I can’t see that there is room to put a sliding door on, it would make the shower even smaller.

I am not suggesting a hard wall shower stall, I think a bowed shower curtain rod would give people the extra room where needed and not cause a massive refitting.

  5. Hello!

We review submissions as they are received; so it may take a few business days before it is published. We don't use machine or algorithms to publish but real people who also happen to be frequent cruisers and fans just like you!

You'll receive an email with the status of your review shortly. Did you know that Cruise Critic is one of the few review sites that offer the opportunity to update your review if the review requires a correction or additional information?

    Thanks for your patience,

Just a side note, I didn't get an email telling me the review went live. I checked spam as well and nothing there.

  6. We began cruising with Azamara in 2013 and have done a few cruises on Celebrity Constellation.

We have passed our threescore years and ten and since we moved from another line we have made use of our two and four free nights, as well as having put our six free nights towards a Norwegian Fiords Cruise next year. No, we do not cruise in a suite, preferring a lower deck, midships.

From another perspective, Azamara are giving us the free nights. They could insist on all points being accrued on Azamara.

What they are doing is incentivizing their customers to sail on other cruise lines that are not part of the RCCL family when they aren't sailing on Azamara. Unintended consequences of an awards program that isn't aligned with the overall goals of the group. Good for Azamara, maybe, but bad, potentially, for RCCL and Celebrity.

  7. We enjoy the benefits of most of the perks awarded as Discover plus/Elit plus. We have more than 1000 points. Most are on Celebrity because Celebrity cruises were in business about 20 years before Celebrity. Earning free nights on Azamara is impossible for us. We still cruise on Celebrity as well as Azamara. We feel we are being reprimanded for still sailing on Celebrity. It seems rather strange since both Azamara amd Celebrity are both part of the same company. We feel that only younger cruisers can get the benefit of free nights.

  8.

In June one of the of washer/dryer combinations was out of service. Perhaps more recent cruisers can comment if repairs have been effected.

As of August 11 one was out of service but back online the next day. I really liked having this onboard, but you better be flexible as they are almost always full with a queue...still looking for one black sock that decided to become a stowaway on the next leg of the cruise. :ship:

  9. It is too bad that we are penalized for sailing Celebrity. Looking back it looks like the points from Celebrity have gotten me one free bag of laundry. They have cost us the two free nights (that are really worthless), the four and six nights for moving up do hurt. Makes us really reluctant to add more Celebrity cruises incase we ever get close to platinum.

Too bad they will not let us drop the Celebrity points.

What they don't realize is that they are incentivizing people to book on other cruise lines for those cruises they don't take on Azamara. They can't see that you sailed on NCL etc., so those don't hurt you getting to 50%. Someone in marketing thinks they are too smart when, in fact, they are really pretty ignorant of the way their incentive plan motivates peoples' choices.

  10. As has been said, at least 50% must have been accrued on Azamara.

It makes sense to me that the stateroom you book using your "complimentary nights" is the same as the stateroom type in which most of your points have been accrued.

Another point that has not been mentioned is that your "complimentary nights" can only be booked on a full price cruise.

Wow, full price. No idea how bad that would be. The onboard pricing is getting close to $1,000/night for a veranda.

  11. How many cruises do you have on Celebrity? 25 years and Elite sounds great, but the truth is you actually don’t need that many cruises to achieve Elite. So you won’t have to work so hard to get to the 50% rule.

    Phil

We didn't cruise every year while we were working. So, initially, it was on our every 5th anniversary. Then we started more frequently. So, years and cruises are not necessarily related. With regards to 50%, the more you cruise on Celebrity, the harder it is to get to 50% on Azamara.

  12. With regards to free nights, I was just on the Quest and asked. The response is they check your cruise record and if at least 50% of your RCCL cruises were on Azamara, then you qualify. If not, you are out of luck. We are Elite status and get zero free nights because we sailed for ~25 years on Celebrity.

  13. Just love paying 2-3x Celebrity prices to end up with a 30" x 20" shower and have a shower curtain stuck to me while trying to rinse off...If they put a bowed out rack at the top, it would be a lot better as the curtain has plenty of length. The alternative is to just leave it open and flood the head. Let the cabin attendant clean up the mess.

  14. Cabin # 6019

    Quest

    Choose Again? Y

Noise Issue? Y Occasionally, because it's above the theatre.

    Balcony? Normal

Although there were sometimes sounds from the theatre, it was not a major problem even for my wife who is a light sleeper.

Just had that cabin from 8/11-19/18 and it was very quiet. Hate the small shower, but all else was fine.
